Chapter 27
Chapter 27 Married to Madness
The sound of something being smashed echoed from the bedroom.
Concerned for Serena's wellbeing, Daniel rushed inside.
Jasmine stood in the corner of the room, around her the shattered remnants of bowls and utensils.
"She did this on purpose-she wants to kill me; it was boiling hot!" Serena cried out, her eyes brimming with tears. "Daniel, she's
trying to take my life."
Jasmine's gaze fell numbly to the ground, her hands hidden behind her. The scalding food had spilled across the back of her
hands, leaving her skin seared and throbbing with pain.
"Jasmine, if you're playing games again, don't expect any sympathy from me." Daniel always took Serena's word over Jasmine's,
his disdainful glare fixed on the latter while he consoled his love.
Jasmine was beyond caring; she was numb to their intimate gestures in front of her because all her love for him was gone.
She remembered vividly the heart-wrenching pain when, five years ago, this same man had sent her to jail.
Now, she felt nothing at all.
In fact, she even thought that Daniel truly belonged with Serena.
They were truly a match made in heaven.
Jasmine crouched on the floor, picking up the shattered debris while in her own world.
"Daniel, she doesn't want to take care of me at all; I can't stand her attitude," Serena pouted pitifully.
Daniel was quick to soothe her. "Serena, I'll make sure she does it willingly. She owes you and she's going to pay."
With that, Daniel's gaze turned icy as he fixed it on Jasmine. "If you dare mess with Serena again, let's see which school in San
Francisco would take in your little bastard."
Jasmine's fingers stiffened as she collected the fragments, slicing her fingertip in the process a droplet of blood fell.
Daniel always knew how to threaten her by targeting her vulnerabilities.
Kneeling on the ground, Jasmine sunk to a level that felt like she was groveling in the dust. "What do I have to do for you to be
satisfied?"
Jasmine didn't understand what she could do to appease Serena's spite.
"Satisfied? Jasmine, you've taken twenty years of my life. If we hadn't been switched, I would have been the heiress of the
Wilson family. I should have been the one enjoying a higher education, the piano, dance lessons... I should have been the elite
San Francisco socialite, while you were meant to be trampled in the mire," Serena said, her voice thick with venom.
She hated Jasmine, and even ruining her wouldn't quench her thirst for vengeance.
She wanted Jasmine dethroned and crushed into the dirt-she wanted to destroy everything about Jasmine, cripple her, tarnish
her reputation, and make her life a living hell.
Still, it wasn't enough to assuage her hatred.
How could everything that was meant to be hers be stolen by Jasmine?
"Daniel, can I do whatever I want to her?" Serena asked innocently, but her question was meant for Jasmine to hear.
She wanted to flaunt it, to show Jasmine that everything she once had now belonged to her.
Evan belonged to her, and so did Daniel.
The two men who used to protect Jasmine now had no qualms about hurting her, just for Serena.
"Of course, she owes you. Nothing you do could be considered too much," Daniel murmured, kissing Serena's fingertips with
utmost affection. "But you need to be good; you need to take care of yourself, alright?"
Serena nodded obediently, her voice sending chills down Jasmine's spine. "Seeing her struggle, I almost feel sorry for her..."
Daniel remained silent, not uttering a word.
"Isn't it tough for Jasmine to find someone to marry, given her reputation in San Francisco? Who would dare take her hand, right,
Daniel?" Serena asked with a playful laugh.
A woman who had a child out of wedlock and was rumored to have been with countless men, potentially carrying diseases who
Forget the wealthy elite; even an average Joe wouldn't dare take someone like Jasmine as his bride.
She was, in essence, ruined.
"You know, I heard today that the son of the Douglas family's butler, nearly forty and still single, is causing his dad a lot of worry.
Despite Jasmine's bad rep and the fact that she has a kid, she might be a match for the butler's son, don't you think?" Serena's
words were like knives, slicing through Jasmine's nerves.
Glancing up at Daniel instinctively, Jasmine's eyes quivered; she was clearly frightened.

There were rumors that the Douglas family butler's son suffered from mental illness and had violent outbursts, biting people
when he had an episode. Jasmine had heard at eighteen how he had attacked a female servant, biting and beating her so
severely that even the distinguished Douglas family suffered embarrassment.
Daniel, being affiliated with the Douglas clan, would know better than anyone just how tragic the injured servant's fate was.
Rumor had it that she was still unable to care for herself...
Serena was obviously doing this on purpose.
Daniel stiffened for a moment, involuntarily turning to look at Serena.
With an air of innocence, Serena continued, "What's wrong, Daniel? I'm just thinking of Jasmine. Her child has no father, no legal
registration, and schools won't accept him, right? I heard the servants talking today and thought it might be a decent match."
Daniel breathed a sigh of relief. Serena hadn't been around the Wilson family for over twenty years and had no connections with
the Douglas clan, so of course, she wouldn't know about the butler's son's mental illness.
Perhaps she didn't do it on purpose. "The butler's son isn't..."
"Jasmine, you couldn't still be pining for that man from the hotel six years ago, could you? Who was he anyway?" Serena knew
Daniel's breaking point, and before he could refuse, she deliberately brought up the past to provoke him.
Her aim was to push Daniel into agreeing to hand Jasmine over to the troubled man.
If Jasmine married the butler's son, then it meant that her life had truly shredded to pieces. Only then could Serena finally rest
easy in her bed.
Otherwise, night after night, she'd toss and turn, eaten up by the fear that Jasmine might come back and snatch Daniel away.
