Wed to the Billionaire Brother of My Spouse by Doris

Chapter 28

Chapter 28 Betrayal
Daniel's expression darkened once again. Her betrayal was something that he still couldn't stomach.
His fiancée, his high school sweetheart, caught in a hotel bed with another man. She defended that man to the last, refused to
name him, and even bore his child. "Jasmine, weren't you looking for a school for your kid? I heard that the butler's son has a
house in a great school district. There's a preschool, an elementary, and a middle school right in the neighborhood. Marry him
and you solve all your kid's education problems," Serena said coolly.
Jasmine couldn't fathom how cruel they could be, the burn on her hand stinging sharply behind her back.
She didn't dare resist or even retort.
"So, you're desperate to fix your bastard's schooling, huh?... Will you marry him or not?" Daniel was curious just how far Jasmine
would go for her child; how shameless she could be.
When Jasmine remained silent, Daniel's annoyance grew. "Get out."
Picking up the shattered pieces of the bowl from the floor, Jasmine rose and left the
room.
"Daniel, since you've agreed; I'll take care of this," Serena declared, feigning kindness and generosity. "The butler has been hard
at work for the Douglas family for years. It's only right we help him out."
Daniel hugged Serena, placating her. "Sure, do what you think is best."
As for Jasmine, she deserved every bit of this misery.
She betrayed him, and now she was reaping the consequences.
...
Downstairs.
Having rinsed her scalded hand under cold water, Jasmine glanced at the time.
It was already seven in the evening. Justin must have had his dinner by now.

Just two more hours, and she could head home.

"Where's Jasmine? That wretch, spilling soup and scalding Miss Serena. I'll skin her
alive," The nanny grumbled as she hunted for Jasmine.
Scared, Jasmine slipped into the study, curled up, and settled in a corner.
She was frightened, truly terrified.
But before she met her end, she vowed to save up some more money.
For her brother and Justin.
She had to admit, Daniel's offer of ten thousand a month was indeed tempting.
Despite not having a college diploma, making ends meet as a waiter would barely rake in a few grand a month.
Suddenly, the light in the study flickered on.
Jasmine ducked behind the curtains, fear driving her into the shadows.
Hadn't the nanny insisted that this room was off-limits, visited by no one, and only maintained for cleanliness?
Was it the nanny who had found her?
Curled up in terror, Jasmine's leg accidentally brushed against a decorative piece nearby.
Ethan had just returned to the Douglas estate when he heard a rustle from the study's
corner.
His brows furrowed, a clear sign of annoyance crossing his face.
Was it Lisa's little annoying troublemaker again?
He had made it crystal clear to the staff: his study was off-limits, especially to Casey, Lisa's spoiled brat.
Ethan had little patience for children, particularly those spoilt rotten.

Casey had been coddled to the extreme by both the Taylor and Douglas families.
Flipping back the curtain, Ethan's face was a storm cloud as he glanced over.
Jasmine flinched, her entire body shaking with fright as she lifted her eyes, wide with panic, to meet his gaze.
Her eyes were striking, bright orbs that seemed perpetually pristine and clear.
Ethan paused and then raised an eyebrow. "Miss Wilson, is this intentional?"
Crouching before her, Ethan's voice dripped with sarcasm.

San Francisco was a buzz with whispers about Jasmine rumors of a promiscuous life and a calculating mind.
Ethan wasn't one to believe idle gossip, but when rumors were repeated enough, they began to paint an unwelcome portrait.
Especially since Jasmine had been frequently crossing his path lately, it was hard not to suspect her motives.
In the past, women had schemed relentlessly to entrap him, pulling every trick in the book to secure a foothold in the Douglas
estate.
Some heiresses from the city's elite even pretended to apply as servants to inch closer to him.
Ethan found it all incredibly tiresome.
"No... it's not... I didn't mean..." Jasmine's voice quivered with fear.
She had thought about using Ethan, about getting close to him on purpose, but she didn't know how, and this was indeed not
part of any plan.

"Where's Jasmine? Did you see her? That little sneak is hiding again, isn't she?"
"She's either slacking off or stealing stuff, always causing trouble."
"I swear, I'll knock some sense into her if I catch her."

Outside, the nanny's voice seethed with irritation.
Jasmine clasped her hands together in a silent plea, begging Ethan not to give her
away.
Ethan frowned, his gaze falling upon the reddened back of Jasmine's hands.
Without a word, he stood up and walked out.
Frozen with fear, Jasmine braced for the worst, thinking Ethan would rat her out to the nanny.
Hugging herself tightly, she could only hope the punishment would be light enough to hide the pain from Richard and Justin.
She had to endure it, for her brother and her child, there was nothing she couldn't
bear.
Sometimes, she wondered if her death would spare them further trouble.
If she died, she'd be free.
Free from the exhausting dance of provoking Ethan and her desperate struggles to survive.
...
After a short wait, the curtain was drawn once more, not by the nanny, but by Ethan.
