Chapter 2015

After midnight, the Atkinson residence grew much quieter.

It wasn't until early morning that Manfred returned. His exhaustion was etched into

his face. A night without sleep, coupled with his injuries and the endless troubles he had faced, had drained him completely.

Vivian hurried to the door to support him as he entered. "Lie down on the bed. Let me check your wounds."

Manfred nodded, and with Vivian's help, he lay down on the bed.

The moment he closed his eyes, his breathing evened out. It was clear he was utterly spent.

Vivian carefully removed his clothes to inspect his injuries. It seemed he had changed the bandages himself the previous day, and his wounds were healing well.

After quickly replacing the dressings, she gently helped him redress and covered him with a blanket.

Just as she turned to rest on a nearby armchair, Manfred suddenly grabbed her hand. "Don't go, Vivian. Don't leave."

Her expression softened as she stopped and looked down at him.

His eyes were still closed, and it seemed he had unconsciously mumbled those words in his sleep, likely caught in a dream.

"Alright, I won't go. If we leave, we'll leave together," she said softly.

The next morning, Manfred woke up and updated Vivian on the situation at the Atkinson residence.

Vivian listened, stunned. "Miley is really dead?"

The shouting she'd heard the night before had sounded exaggerated, and she

had assumed Miley was merely injured. After all, Miley was a powerful figure within the Atkinson family, skilled at winning loyalty. With so many followers, it had seemed almost impossible for her to die so easily.

Manfred gave a low hum in

response. "She's as dead as it gets. Jayden was ruthless. He shot her through the heart with one arrow then kept stabbing her in frustration. Miley had also managed to stab him a few times before she died."

Vivian couldn't help but feel a pang of sorrow. Those two had truly gone mad. In

the end, one lost their life, and the other ended up injured.

"I heard someone shouting that Jayden wants to kill you. Why would he want that?" Vivian asked.

After all, Jayden had no other children besides Manfred. The few children he had with Miley were either dead or insane.

The future of the Atkinson family rested solely on Manfred's shoulders.

If Jayden killed Manfred, he would be sending the family into ruin. So, Vivian

couldn't quite understand why Jayden would want to kill him.

peaceful.

Manfred still left early and returned late, but Vivian was now able to wander the mansion without worry.
