Chapter 2014
Chapter 2014
Vivian's expression shifted dramatically upon hearing the news. She shot to her feet, ready to leave.
Yet, as she reached the door, she paused. Impulsiveness wouldn't help. The Atkinson family was in utter chaos. If she rushed out now, she could make things worse for Manfred. And even if she did go, there wasn't much she could do to help.
What she could do was ensure she wasn't a burden to him. She had to trust that Manfred would handle things.
Vivian returned to her seat, restless and filled with anxiety.
The waiting was torture. Without realizing it, she took several more sips of water.
Just then, a faint voice interrupted her thoughts.
"Vivian."
The voice was unmistakably Skylar's.
"Mom?"
It was the only thing she heard. There was no other sound after that.
She couldn't help but let out a bitter smile. "It must have been my imagination. I must be missing Mom and Dad too much. They're surely safe at home now, waiting for me. Mom, Dad, don't worry. I'll take care of myself. I'll find a way back to you."
Skylar sat at her vanity, applying light makeup for a meeting with a friend.
Before leaving, she glanced at the copper mirror in front of her.
She smiled gently. "Vivian, we are waiting for you to come back."
Then, she left the bedroom.
Joe had plans to play golf with Jeremy and the others. They were scheduled to meet in an hour, so he had time to drive Skylar to the restaurant.
As they got into the car, Joe turned to her and asked, "Does Aiken know that Wendy and her son are back?"
Skylar replied, "He likely knew. Over the years, Aiken has traveled abroad occasionally, hoping to see Wendy and their son. Wendy didn't want to meet him, but she never stopped their son from meeting him."
Aiken had never married, and it was well known that he still hoped Wendy would
return. He also longed for their son, Ebenezer Parkinson, to take over the Parkinson family estate.
Wendy, however, had built a life abroad and started her own company. Ebenezer had become a lawyer with no interest in Aiken's fortune.
Despite the distance, their relationship wasn't completely severed. They weren't strangers, just distant.
Meanwhile, Simona and Caleb had become a couple a few years ago. They'd been friends for many years but hadn't crossed that line until Alexander encouraged them. They soon realized how well they suited each other.
Skylar had met Simona yesterday. Their conversation made it clear that they weren't just settling for companionship.
It wasn't a passionate, whirlwind romance but a steady, enduring love. They held each other in their hearts, and their happiness was evident.
It was hard to believe how many years had passed.
If Skylar had one regret, it would be that Vivian wasn't there with her and Joe. She hoped Vivian would return soon.
Noticing Skylar gazing out the window, lost in thought, Joe asked, "What are you thinking about?"
Skylar snapped out of her reverie,
looking at Joe and smiling. "When I
finished my makeup earlier, I
thought I heard Vivian's voice from the copper mirror. It was probably just my imagination."
She had turned back and looked at the copper mirror, but there was nothing
unusual, and she didn't hear Vivian's voice again.
She knew it was probably just her imagination.

Joe chuckled. "It's not impossible. Don't forget, back when we were in Graystone before we saw Vivian, we also heard her calling us." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!
