It was a woman around the same age as Vivian.

Not only were they similar in age, but even their facial features bore some resemblance.

"You must be Ms. Martin, right? Everyone in the residence has been talking about you these past few days," the woman, Candice Sutton, said as she sized her up.

Vivian nodded. "Yes, I am."

As soon as she spoke, Candice suddenly dropped to her knees with a thud.

"Please, Ms. Martin, don't send me away! I... I've lost both my parents, and my elder brother and his wife refuse to take me in. They believe I've already lost my virtue and don't want me to bring shame upon them. I have nowhere else to go!

"I see. Has Manfred seen you? Did he make any arrangements for you?" Vivian asked patiently.

Candice bit her lip, her eyes flickering with a hint of unease. "Mr. Atkinson has seen me and allowed me to stay in the residence for now.

"But in the past two days, Mr. Noah said Mr. Atkinson ordered that all the women sent here be dismissed. I have no other choice but to come to you, Ms. Martin, hoping you won't send me away."

At first, she had believed the rumors outside, thinking that Manfred was a cruel and ruthless man.

But after staying in the Atkinson household for some time, she experienced a life she had never imagined-dressed in fine silks, eating exquisite meals, never worrying about hunger or mistreatment.

And most importantly, Manfred had never harmed her.

"You're the right person!" Candice insisted. "Everyone in the residence knows that Mr. Atkinson favors you. Even Mr. Noah listens to you. If you plead with Mr. Atkinson, he will definitely let me stay.
