Chapter 2008
Chapter 2008
An hour later, the tightly shut door creaked open, and Sterling entered. He moved with slow, deliberate steps, closing the distance between them.
Seeing Vivian sitting quietly on the bed, he curled his lips in satisfaction. "Not bad. You're smart. Once you calmed down, you figured out exactly what needed to be done."
"You're smart too. I know you carry negative items. They're everywhere here. You use them to harm people. Do they even realize how you've been manipulating them?" Vivian said coldly.
Sterling abruptly halted, his eyes filled with disbelief as he stared at her.
Up close, the woman before him was even more breathtaking than he had realized. Her every movement carried a rare and mesmerizing quality.
But that wasn't important. What mattered now was this-she shouldn't have known. She couldn't have known that he carried negative items on him.
"How did you find out? Who told you?" His voice was sharp, urgent. He took another step, looming over her with oppressive intent.
An ordinary person would have quailed under his gaze, but Vivian didn't even flinch.
She had faced far worse than Sterling before. Compared to them, he was insignificant.
"If you don't want people to know, then don't do it in the first place," she said.
Sterling's expression darkened. He reached for her throat without hesitation, ready to choke the truth out of her.
But before his fingers touched her skin, a sudden, searing pain ripped through him.
His whole body locked up. He staggered backward. Cold sweat broke out across his forehead as the agony intensified.
"What the hell is this?"
Vivian remained expressionless. "You use negative items to hurt others, but they can hurt you too. What you're experiencing right now is the backlash. You won't be sleeping well tonight."
She had used this technique to counter Sterling, knowing full well that it would also affect her.
Skylar had warned her to never use this method unless necessary. The consequences could be severe, possibly leaving her gravely ill.
Even now, she felt it. Her face had gone pale.
But Sterling's endurance was monstrous. Despite the backlash, he didn't scream. He simply bit down hard enough to draw blood and locked his gaze onto her, his eyes burning with ruthless intent.
"Did you do something?" he asked.
"No." Vivian lied without the slightest hesitation.
