Chapter 2009
Chapter 2009
Sterling had been set up for the first time, by a woman.
"Tell me who you are first." His voice was laced with fury. If Sterling had his way, Vivian's neck would already be snapped.
The sheer audacity of negotiating with him! She must have a death wish.
Vivian saw the murderous intent in his eyes. "I know you want to kill me. Maybe even my entire family. But forget it. Even if you throw everything you have, you won't be able to touch us.
"As for me? Kill me, and the negative item's backlash will drive you mad. Sooner or later, the mighty Bowman family will crumble, and you'll have nothing."
"You!" Sterling was livid. He had never expected such a crushing defeat.
"Fine. What are your terms?" He ground the words out, already planning how she would pay for this threat.
Vivian exhaled slowly, fighting the weakness in her limbs. She could still move, but running was no longer an option.
Her only option was to stall Sterling long enough. "First, give me five million dollars. Second, arrange a carriage to take me safely out of here. Meet these terms, and I'll lift the backlash."
Sterling let out a cold chuckle. "You've got guts, demanding that much."
"Just two conditions. I know that you are wealthy beyond measure. A mere five million is nothing to someone like you." Vivian smiled slightly.
Sterling's gaze sharped. "What's your relationship with the so-called master who gave me the negative item? Were you both in on this from the start? Was this some scheme to rob me blind?"
The item that once empowered him had cursed him from the shadows.
He cursed it-and her.
Vivian's eyes glinted. She hadn't even considered this angle, but now that he had suggested it...
Her eyes flickered as she spoke, a hint of false admiration in her voice. "Mr. Bowman, you see right through me."
"You're smart. Fine, I agree to your terms. Now lift the backlash," Sterling hissed.
Vivian shook her head. "I'm not that foolish. If I help you now, I'll leave this mansion as a corpse. You've got no choice. In 30 minutes, the pain will be unbearable."
With that, she leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, ignoring him completely.
Outwardly, she looked calm, but cold sweat soaked her back. Her strength was waning fast. If not for her fear of Sterling noticing, her breathing would have already betrayed her.
"Fine!" Sterling gritted his teeth and relented. He ordered his men to prepare five million dollars and ready the carriage.
Vivian moved slowly as she left the mansion, each step feeling like a battle against collapse.
Skylar had been right-this method was something she could only use once in her lifetime. It drained too
much of her energy. It was a strategy that harmed her enemy but also left her severely weakened.
But it was the only solution she had. There was no other way out.
