Chapter 237

“The thief” wouldn’t likely escape if Cher called the staff in time. She had observed more details than inlyn har
“You’re amazing for your age. As if seeing through Quinlyn’s thoughts, Cher comforted her. She then changed the outger “Do
you want to be a judge in the future? I think you’d be a good fit.”
Just then, Elowyn slapped Cher’s knee. “I brought you out for shopping, not for interviewing. Don’t think about himing on my kid.
Many people have their eyes on her.”
She felt troubled. Other parents worried about their children being incompetent and having no future, but her child was on
capable. Quinlyn could succeed in any path she chose, so Elowyn thought she should be more careful
As Elowyn sighed, Cher couldn’t help but laugh. “Children will find their own way. Quinlyn is a thoughtful girl, and she will decide
her own future path.”
“Yeah, we modern–day parents should respect our children, Elowyn said, cheering up again.
Seeing how well Cher and Quinlyn got along, Elowyn came up with an idea. “It’s the holiday, and Quinlyn has nothing to do How
about she hangs out at your place for a few days?”
“Quinlyn, Cher’s got a bunch of cool picture books at her house. You can pick out as many as you want,” she added, not holding
back.
Cher truly adored Quinlyn and extended an invitation. “You are welcome to come, Quinlyn.”

Two days later, Quinlyn showed up at the Perry residence with a Christmas gift.
The servant was surprised to see a child at the door.
Quinlyn explained her purpose and was led inside. The garden was full of white crepe myrtles, and house was painted in shades
of gray. Despite the bright sunshine, it gave off a gloomy feeling.
After a while, Cher came out. She was wearing a high–necked wool jumpsuit, the pure white color glowing softly in the winter
sun, like the only sun in this house.

“Hi, Cher. Elowyn is doing some cleaning and asked me to bring you these, Quinlyn said and handed over the gifts, which were
just ordinary supplements and skincare products.
But Cher was very happy and invited Quinlyn in with a smile. “Elowyn is always so thoughtful. I heard you like picture books.
They are all in the studio on the second floor. I’ll take you there.”

Quinlyn nodded. As she passed through the living room, she noticed that it was also dimly lit. The hallway extended to rooms
that were too dark to make out, like a prison–did anyone like living here?
She only glanced at it briefly. When she reached the second floor, she found that the lighting was completely different. There
were large floor–to–ceiling windows and a semi–open glass room. The sunlight and air flowed freely, making the whole place feel
super bright and airy.
The studio had the best lighting. It was a semi–suspended glass room with koi swimming beneath it. The heating was on in
winter, and the fish were still swimming under her feet. The floor was also warm.
“Make yourself comfortable. I’ll find the books for you,” Cher said. She then sat barefoot on the floor and searched through the
boxes.
Quinlyn followed suit, slowly moving across the slightly warm floor and admiring the oil paintings on the wall.

At lunch, the servert gave Onlyn another strange look, as if she were some strange creature.
“Don’t mind her. It’s just that there’s never been a child in this house, and they all think we don’t like children,” Cher explained,
Quinlyn glanced at the picture book, Little Angel Fairy Tale Town, a book specifically about children–Cher should like children
very much. “Are you ill? Quinlyn asked.
Cher knew what Quinlyn really wanted to ask and shook her head with a smile. “No, my husband and I are both very healthy. We
just decided not to have children.”
Quinlyn nodded, having heard that the “DINK” lifestyle was trendy in big cities. She figured it was some cool trend and didn’t
inquire further.
This sense of appropriateness put Cher at ease.
In the afternoon, they sat together in the living room, reading books and occasionally doodling. Impressed by Quinlyn’s drawing
skills, she decided to take Quinlyn to the art studio the next day to try her hand at it.

As they were chatting, a knock came from the door, followed by the barking of the servant. “You can’t just barge in!”

Then came kids‘ laughter. “We’re here to wish you a Happy Christmas. Can’t we? The evil judge’s house is creepy. The flowers
are so ominous, like they’re for a funeral. I heard she’s super evil. Is she ugly-”

Suddenly, the door swung open, startling the group of kids. They turned to see a pair of deep, almost eerie eyes staring back at
them.
Instantly, screams rang out.
Quinlyn found it baffling. They were badmouthing the owner at her door and now were screaming like victims.
The parents came running and bumped into Cher. “Sorry, Ms. Richardson. Our kids are too naughty.”
Cher leaned against the door and didn’t reply.
“Well, we’ll teach them a lesson when we get home. Please excuse us,” the parents said embarrassedly. They pulled their
children away, ready to leave.
Just then, several stones shot over. Each one hit the back of the kids‘ heads with pinpoint accuracy.
“Ouch! That hurts!” The kids cried out, clutching their heads in pain.
The parents whirled around and saw that Quinlyn was the one who had thrown the stones. “Ms. Richardson, how could your
child hurt ours?” they shouted angrily.
“She’s just too naughty,” Cher replied coldly.
