The parents were left speechless by their own words, struggling to respond. Finally, they dragged their kids away, their faces stiff
with anger.
As they turned to leave, they saw a dark figure standing in the garden. He had been there for some time, watching them silently.
Everyone was startled.
The clear sky had darkened, and clouds now covered the garden, casting a gloomy shadow over the white gardenias.
The man was dressed in a black overcoat and black trousers. His thick hair and eyebrows contrasted sharply with his pale skin,
making him look eerily like a figure in a chilling oil painting.
“M–Mr. Perry,” the parents stammered, shivering in fear.
Zane Perry nodded and looked down at the stone on the ground, his eyes calm but piercing. As a cold breeze blew, he bent
down to pick it up. His six–foot–three frame unfolded, and the outline of his muscular physique was faintly visible beneath his
coat..
Everyone’s eyes widened, and they unconsciously held their breath. It felt like Zane was picking up a murder weapon instead of
a stone.
“W–We have something to attend to at home. Please excuse us,” the terrified parents stammered, dragging their children away
as if fleeing for their lives.
Silence fell over the yard. Zane picked up the stone to prevent anyone from tripping over it. As he stood up, he noticed the string
lights around, adding a festive Christmas vibe to the place. He turned to Cher. “Should we get some too?”
Cher hadn’t expected him to be interested in such things. She glanced down at Quinlyn, then smiled and nodded. “Sure.”
Zane was the CEO of an innovative tech company. In just a few years, he had amassed a fortune of billions. As Elowyn said,
Cher had hit the jackpot.
When Cherhe was with Zane, her demeanor changed. Her usual rational composure softened, and she became more cheerful
and prone to smiling.
next couple of days, so we could all go on a trip to the countryside,” Cher suggested enthusiastically, her lack of common sense
showing.
Zane ate his meal, seemingly subdued, but his eyes never left her. Hearing this, he immediately nodded in agreement.

After dinner, Quinlyn went to wash up. When she went upstairs, she saw Zane walk into the deep, long corridor next to the living
room and open the door to one of the rooms. After a while, he came out carrying a tent, a camper van, a hiking backpack, and
the like.
“You’re here,” Cher exclaimed. Noticing that Quinlyn hadn’t gone upstairs, she came down for her. Following Quinlyn’s gaze, she
spotted Zane standing there with piles of items around him.
Feeling a bit embarrassed, she explained, “I bought the house, but I didn’t have much experience. It wasn’t until we moved in
that we realized the lighting on the first floor was terrible.
“The room over there was even darker and damp, and there was nothing we could do to fix it. So, Zane had no choice but to turn
the second floor into a living space while the first floor became a storage area.”

Chapter 238
Quinlyn was a little surprised to find that the famous judge Cher was such a scatterbrain in life.

Before Quinlyn went to bed that night, Cher brought her a glass of warm milk. “Zane is worried that you won’t be able to sleep
well in the new environment. Drinking milk can help you sleep. He also prepared this for you. If you’re afraid of the dark, just turn
it on
Quinlyn thanked her and placed the ball–like object on the ground. Immediately, a faint light emanated from it, projecting onto the
ceiling and walls.
It was a starry sky. The brilliant stars simulated astrophysical motion, slowly rotating. The Milky Way shimmered in the
background, adding to the magic of the scene. The quiet room felt like a vast universe, both beautiful and mesmerizing
measures to ensure she was settled before bed. Despite their cold appearances, both he and Cher had kind hearts.
The next day, Cher went downstairs for breakfast. Zane had prepared everything they needed for their trip and was waiting for
her.
Before they left, Zane put a hat on Quinlyn’s head–a yellow duck hat with a whistle attached, in case she got lost.
It was a family trip, so they didn’t bring a servant. The three of them drove from the city to the suburbs.
Fewer buildings and more barren trees passed by. Finally, they stopped at the foot of a small hill covered with withered leaves.
The scenery outside the car was desolate.
Cher sneezed as soon as she took a breath of fresh air, chilled by the weather.
Zane took a blanket from the car and draped it over her. He then walked over to a flat area in the woods and began to clear the
fallen leaves, set up the tent, and start a campfire.
His movements were skilled. In less than an hour, he finished almost everything by himself. Quinlyn wanted to help but couldn’t
find a way.
“Just let Zane do it. You go and enjoy the scenery. If you want to paint, take your drawing board,” said Cher, sitting beside Zane,
wrapped in a blanket.
Quinlyn glanced at the two of them and walked away.

It had snowed heavily a few times, and the lake near the woods was frozen over.
Quinlyn had seen ice fishing on TV and was eager to try it. She found a wooden stick and squatted on the ice, chipping away at
it. However, after a long time of chiseling, her hands were numb from the cold, and she hadn’t managed to make a decent hole.
Just as she was about to try again, Zane grabbed the back of her collar and said, “If you do it like that, the ice will easily crack.”
Zane, who had come over at some point, pulled Quinlyn to safety. Then, he took out a small hammer and a metal file and began
to chip away at the ice in a circle, sending ice shards flying.
Curious, Quinlyn went over to watch. She figured out why her attempts to make a hole had failed and got eager to try again.
Seeing this, Zane handed her the tools and stepped aside to guide her. “Angle it inwards, be gentle, chip away small pieces of
ice, and it won’t crack. Well, you’re a fast learner.”
