Unspoken Hearts: My Neglected Mute Wife’s Escape

Chapter 1378

Chapter 1378:

Sure enough, Clayton's gaze toward Beth turned icy, filled with disappointment, his disinterest in hearing her side of the story evident.

The gathered onlookers breathed a sigh of relief. They had no idea that woman was Kallie's cousin. Fortunately, they hadn't supported Beth. The Fletchers couldn't compare to the Nixons. It would have been unwise to support Beth against Kallie.

Before Clayton or Kallie could say anything, Beth stepped up, facing Caitlin.

"I apologize, I was arrogant and acted rudely."

Beth's voice shook with shame as she reluctantly continued, "I misused the Fletcher name to bully around. Could you forgive me?"

Although Beth's words were filled with remorse, her eyes glinted with malice as she looked at Caitlin.

Caitlin was well aware that it was best not to make a big deal out of the situation. But seeing her torn and dirty dress, she couldn't swallow her anger. With narrowed eyes, she said, "Even though you apologized, I don't want to forgive you. If I were just an ordinary person from a humble background, would you think treating me like this is okay?"

Beth felt like lashing out at Caitlin. She had brought herself low to apologize, for crying out loud. What more did Caitlin want from her? Had it not been for Clayton, she would never have apologized.

Beth took a deep breath, trying to suppress her burning rage, and retorted, "But you're just making assumptions. Besides, if you truly were just a regular person, you wouldn't have been here, nor would our paths have crossed. Your argument doesn't hold."

Caitlin almost laughed with disdain.

"So, you think regular people aren't even worthy of being bullied by you?"

Beth didn't reply. However, her face said it all-that was exactly what she meant.

Beth turned to Clayton, her tone softening.

"Clayton, I've apologized for your sake. You don't want to make a big deal out of this and embarrass both of us, right?"

Clayton couldn't care less about Beth, but he couldn't deny the truth in her words. After all, he had announced their upcoming engagement. For now, he needed their relationship to appear stable for his own interests. It was better not to let the situation escalate further.

With a faint smile, Clayton said to Caitlin, "My fiancée has indeed behaved inappropriately and crossed the line, Miss Cooper. As a form of apology, I will make sure some gifts are sent to you. Please consider putting this matter behind you. Also, I will ensure she stays clear of you during this period."

Beth's face turned pale at his words. His statement suggested she would be restricted to her room for the foreseeable future, with no permission to leave. A surge of resentment washed over Beth. As the only daughter of the Fletcher family, she had never faced such disgrace. But there was nothing she could do. She loved Clayton and couldn't bear to let go of their relationship.

So, Beth merely shut her eyes and stayed quiet, as if drained of all her strength.
