RYN
When I opened my eyes again, it was late in the evening, and this time I was alone in bed.
Getting out, I showered and changed into a pair of jeans and a t–shirt before stepping out of the bathroom.

Again, my eyes drifted back to the cupboard and when the same thirst returned, I quickly crossed the room and left.
As soon as I did that, a familiar scent wafted through my nostrils, guiding my steps from the hallway all the way to the main
staircase. As soon as I reached the banister, I saw Theon and my mother, standing in discussion with Miro and Dominic.
I sighed in relief as I ran down the stairs.
The conversation halted, and Miro left their midst to come closer to the staircase. As soon as I got down, I leapt into his arms,
and he raised me off the floor, holding me tight.
“I missed you.” I murmured into his neck, inhaling his scent, and he lowered me down, kissing my forehead.
“I missed you too, baby.” He smiled.
“Is everything under control?” I asked, and he nodded.
“Everything is fine now. Enforcers are in place and since everyone knows you’re not even in the kingdom, no one has
misbehaved.”
I looked away, nodding in understanding, then I felt regret overwhelm me. Frowning, I raised my eyes to see Miro’s defeated
looking ones. “What’s wrong?”
“I just want to say I am sorry for letting you down. If I had introduced you sooner as my Luna, what happened yesterday might
not have happened.”

“I doubt that.” Theon chimed in and we both turned to him. “Greed will make even the best of men a sinner. I doubt people would
have cared if Ryn was a Luna or not. I mean, for that price listed, they’d probably sell out their Alpha.”
I saw sense in Theon’s words. The bounty was just too ridiculously huge for someone like me. It was almost as if the rest of the
Elite families were scared of me.
Is that it? Fear? Rage? Revenge?
I rubbed my temple, feeling that thirst overwhelm me again.
“Any news about the girl?” I asked, and the solemn looks I got in return made my heart squeeze. My knees turned to jelly, so I
reached for the nearest sofa and sat on it.
“Don’t worry. We’ll find her.” My mother said, coming to sit by my side. She placed her hand on my thigh and squeezed softly, but
I was barely here. I was already plotting how I’d leave the North and surrender.
A child’s death will be the one thing that pushes me over the edge. I can’t let that be on my

conscience.
When I noticed everyone was staring at me, I gave them a small smile and afterwards we had dinner, of which I ate very little off.
Before anyone else finished their meal, I excused myself and went upstairs.
I want to forget.

Chapter 225
I don’t want to feel this pain. This regret. These emotions. I want to be numb.
As soon as I got in my legs crossed the room to the cupboard, and when I opened it, I stared at the bottle again. This time I
opened the door wide and, to my surprise, at the back were some bottles of wine.
Reaching for one, I read the label and glanced at the door.
It was a special kind of wine that had a high alcoholic content that could match a werewolf’s fast metabolism. Meaning drinking
this could have the effect I want.

Gods! I’m just trying to relax. That’s all. I just need something that can help me stop thinking. Everyone drinks wine, right? So it’s
not a bad thing.
With that thought, I unscrewed the cork and since I couldn’t find a glass cup, I put the bottle to my mouth and took a sip. After
realizing it tasted sweet, I guzzled half the bottle in one move. Then, I heaved a sigh, and wiped my mouth.
The effect was instant, sending warmth spreading to my insides.
A small smile crept to my lips, as my thoughts scattered like birds. None making any sense.
I sighed and focused hard on closing the bottle. Afterwards, I put the bottle back, and the moment I did that, the room tilted.
“Whoa.” I muttered, before bursting into laughter.

With my weight on the cupboard, I managed to get to my feet, then I used other things as support till I reached the bed and
collapsed on it.
Eventually, the third day came and my nerves got worse than it had ever been.
Prior to this, Theon and Miro had gone back to the West to find the little girl while Dominic and El collaborated with them from
their base. When Miro came the first time, he had brought a shirt belonging to the child and my mother had been working with
mutants, giving them the shirts to sniff and sending them off to find the girl.
I, on the other hand, was on my third bottle of wine, pacing back and forth in my room, running a hand through my hair for the
thousandth time.
I should be doing something. I should be helping yet the voices in my head, every time the alcohol leaves my system, they get
loud and intense, increasing my sense of worthlessness and regret. I took another swig of wine, feeling my thoughts get scanty
again.
I have to find a way to reach out to the Elite families and surrender myself in exchange for the girl.
That.....I can do. I’ll be able to save everyone from the stress of having to deal with my drama. But I don’t have a phoneet. I need
one, then I’ll find the Cresswell number and reach out to them.

With that thought, I put back the bottle and left the room.

As long as I didn’t walk too fast, I was okay, so I maintained a good pace as I went down the hall, wondering how to get a phone
without seeming suspicious.
It didn’t take long to find the base where Dominic and El sat staring at huge monitor screens as they assessed traffic cams and
places. They weren’t the only ones present as well.

There were about dozens upon dozens of military personnel, each focused on their own screens or walking urgently from one
point to another.
Finding a phone here should be easy, but then what if I get caught stealing?
I shook my head, stepped back out of the room, and leaned against a wall. There has to be a way to get a phone easily without
stealing it.
As if on cue, a lady in cleaning uniform turned a corner and my head sparked with an idea.
I moved too quickly, and the hallway tilted, sending me to my knees.
“Madam, are you okay?!” The lady rushed towards me, and in an instant, she had her arms under my shoulder, pulling me
1. up.
“I’m fine. Thank you.” I gave her a small smile and just when she was about to walk away, I held her arm gently. “Do you, by any
chance, have a phone? I desperately need to make a call.”
“Yes, of course.” The lady smiled before dipping her hands in her pocket to bring out her device. As soon as she handed it to me,
I realized I didn’t know any of the numbers off–head, but I knew Sadie’s and I bet her parents are with her phone right
now.

I was in the process of dialling her number when I noticed people rushing past us to go look at something. Curious, I and the
cleaner followed them outside and there I noticed a small crowd had formed, but I couldn’t see what they were gathered around.
A young man was about to pass, so I grabbed his arm and asked politely, “What’s happening?”
“Someone was found on the edge of our borders. Seems to be a part of those Elite families.”
My head rang with alarm.
Who could it be?
Immediately, I ventured forward, pushing past people to get in their midst. The moment I did that, I found a man dressed in black
army wear kneeling on the ground, favouring his side like he was hurt. His dark hair was shoulder–length long, covering his face,
and beside him was a big eyed little girl who looked half scared and half in shock.
A little raise of his head and I recognized him immediately.
“Adam!” I rushed towards him, falling to my knees. Then I lifted his head with both my hands and, to my horror, I discovered he
had been badly beaten. One eye was swollen shut, his nose crooked, and his upper lip favoring a cut.
“Ryn.” He managed to smile and grimace at the same time. “So good to see you.” Then he raised a bloody hand to the little girl.
“Her name is Courtney. She’s from the West. She belongs to a nurse. My father was going to have her killed. I had to save her.
Please return her to her mother.”
I nodded in understanding and Adam smiled again before falling to the floor, unconscious.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: Apologies everyone. I thought I was okay. I wasn’t.
