Chapter 155
Calliope was momentarily stunned. As she looked up, a loud bang echoed through the night. In that instant, fireworks erupted in
the sky.
Right in the middle of the colorful display, the words "Happy Birthday, Callie" lit up brilliantly.
The words hovered momentarily before fading away, replaced by a cascade of fireworks bursting across the sky.
It wasn't just above her. Calliope could hear the crackling explosions from all directions.
Instinctively, she glanced around.
Capitalton seemed to be holding a grand fireworks festival, with dazzling displays lighting up the night from every corner,
celebrating her birthday.
Seeing those fleeting words brought tears to Calliope's eyes, nearly spilling over.
It was Silas's handiwork, but it reminded her of her grandfather. When her grandfather was alive, her birthdays were celebrated
with such grandeur. And Silas had stepped into that role, giving her the most vibrant birthday she'd had in years.
"Happy Birthday, my dear Callie-"
Silas's voice came from beside her, husky yet incredibly charming.
Calliope's heart raced. With tears shimmering in her eyes, she murmured, "Thank you. I love it."
The fireworks continued illuminating the sky, and Calliope watched them for a long time until Silas took off his coat and draped it
over her shoulders.
He clasped her hand, their fingers interlocking. She gently squeezed back, her heart swelling with warmth.
Everyone gathered at the floor-to-ceiling windows in the banquet hall, watching the spectacle outside. Meanwhile, Lisette was
doing the same on the balcony of the Jewell family mansion.
She had received a message from Yvette, informing her about Calliope's birthday party on the rooftop of the Starlight Hotel, and
jealousy was consuming her.

But soon, the fireworks outside caught her attention.
Capitalton had strict rules against fireworks. Yet tonight, it felt like the entire world was celebrating something significant, with the
sound of fireworks impossible to ignore.
As she
stepped outside, the sky was filled with countless fleeting words and bursts of light, renewing in a frenzy. The "Happy Birthday",
emblazoned across the sky stung Lisette's eyes. en
She had schemed to share Calliope's birthday spotlight every year, outshining and leaving her in the shadows. But this time,

The Kingdom of the North was beyond beautiful.
It looked similar to the Kingdom of the South with mountains and seas forming an enclosure around the settlement.

As we flew over the cities, lights glittered in the night like stars.
Unlike the South which was more rural, the North was a blend of rural and urban settings. From unending farmlands to modern
buildings including skyscrapers, and stadiums and seaports, no wonder the North didn’t rely on inter–kingdom trading, they
seemed to have everything they needed.

We landed in front of a huge white painted mansion with a fountain in front of it and someone came forward to usher us in. Turns
out Dominic had left instructions and had an array of servants ready to serve.
Theon was attended to while I was shown to my room.
As soon as I got there, I was examined by a healer who told me all I needed was more rest but I ended up tossing and turning in
bed.
Eventually, I must have slipped into a fitful sleep because I found myself back on the rooftop of the hospital, alone with nowhere
to hide. The door to the rooftop was barred with an iron but I could hear people trying to break through.
In fact, the top part of the door has been peeled back and the faces peering through were horrendous. They had long sharp teeth
and yellow eyes that gleamed with malice and murderous intent. I turned around and ran to the edge of the roof, but the entire
city was covered in pitch black darkness.
“HELLO? IS ANYBODY THERE?!” My voice echoed but no answer came.
Feeling something wet under my hands, I raised them to see thick, red blood coating them. My heart began to race a mile a
minute and as I backed away from the edge, I stumbled over something and fell backwards.
Groaning, I raised up on my elbows to see what it was and immediately jerked away when I came face to face with the
body touched something else and when I turned, I school janitor’s dead body. Covering my mouth, I scotted back but saw yet
another body.
In fact, to my horror, the entire rooftop was covered in bodies,
Dead bodies.
“Muuuurdeeeerrrerrr.” I twisted around in fright and discovered that the rooftop door had been pulled ajar and now all the
monstrous people chasing me were inching closer. To my dismay, the people at the forefront were Theon, Miro, Dominic, El and
everyone else I cared about.
They all looked like monsters.
I began to scramble back on my hands and feet, shaking my head in tears.

“Please! No!”
“Muuurdddeeeerrrerrr!” They sang in unison as they increased their pace.
I rushed back till I reached the bloody edge and climbed over it. “Plecase!” I moaned in tears but their eyes held no remorse.

No recognition. Just pure hatred and malice.
I looked down into the pitch blackness, knowing I would rather take my own life than get mauled, and when their gnarly hands
reached for me, I took a deep breath and jumped.
“RYN!”

I jerked awake in bed to hands touching me. Terrified, a scream ripped out of my throat and I was about to run out of bed when I
heard a familiar voice.
“It’s just me, Ryn.”
I blinked several times, my eyes adjusting to the room illumined by the soft light of the early morning.
In my bed was my mate, his hair packed in a messy bun on his head.
“Theon?”
My mate nodded, as he swept one side of my hair behind my ear. “It’s okay. Were you having a nightmare?”
A tear rolled down my face as I nodded.
Theon’s thumb immediately wiped it off. “Do you want to talk about it?”

I shook my head in response. The last thing I wanted to do was talk, but just as I fumbled for words to say, my eyes darted to the
slightly open door of a small cupboard. When I saw what was in it, I turned my focus back on Theon. “Could you please get me a
glass of water?” I added a smile for good measure.
Theon’s blue eyes assessed me for a moment before he nodded and got out of bed. I noticed he had changed into a white t-
shirt and sleep shorts. I guess Dominic told his staff to be as hospitable as possible.
As soon as Theon left the room, I got out of bed, and rushed to the cupboard, and as soon as I saw the tall bottle of vodka, a
strange thirst overwhelmed me. My eyes darted to the door, then back to the bottle.
My tongue darted out to wet my bottom lip.
I could hear my heart thumping hard as I contempated taking a drink but after what seemed like an agonizing moment of war, I
closed the door instead and went back into bed. Holding my head in my hands, I rocked back and forth fighting the urge to have
a vice.
Shortly after, Theon walked in with a glass of water, and the moment he gave it to me, I downed everything like I had been
parched for days. When I was done, Theon collected the glass and kept it.
“Are you sure you don’t want to talk about your nightmares?”
I nodded frantically.
Theon leaned in, then hesitated, before lightly touching my lips with his. As if testing the terrains of my emotions.
In that moment, in the whirlwind of the dark, obsessive thoughts dominating my head, I wanted him.
I wanted him so badly but a child’s life was on the line and I had no idea if Miro was okay. It wasn’t fair to use Theon, especially
since we hadn’t had sex before.
Theon pulled back at my hesitation and instead turned me around so he could spoon me.

“Get some rest.” He kissed the side of my head as he held me close, and I couldn’t help but feel even more shitty for not being
able to be intimate with him. Everytime we go there, something always comes up.
I just want all this mess to be over with.
the world how worthy of celebration 4 was. She could have special permission for fireworks, and it felt as if the entire city was
celebrating alongside her.
After this event, people would talk about and even envy Calliope. To many, she was the ultimate socialite, like a princess.
Lisette gripped the balcony railing tightly, and if she had the strength, she might have crushed it.
Today, Calliope was so flamboyant, so high-profile.
What would her own birthday party mean tomorrow?
She'd become a laughingstock!
Valerian had promised her a grand birthday bash, a chance to find a suitable match, inviting all the city's young elites.
Ridiculous! Who could they possibly invite that would compare to those who came to celebrate Calliope's birthday tonight?
