Chapter 12 When Will We
Get Married
Elliot finally looked up and met her expectant gaze. “Why are you in such a hurry?”
“You see, I’m already twenty–four. It’s high time we tied the knot. Why don’t we just get the marriage certificate first? That way, it
won’t affect your work, but we’ll finally be husband and wife!”
She gazed at Elliot with anticipation. Ever since they got engaged, she had been looking forward to their married life. However,
with each passing day of their stagnant engagement, she grew increasingly restless.
Elliot looked at her with complicated feelings. He knew that he should marry Amanda soon, but for some
reason, he felt averse to the idea.
“Don’t you think things are fine just the way they are?”
Amanda was mortified. “How on earth is ‘this‘ fine? If we don’t get married, I’m doomed to stay just a fiancee
forever!”
Hearing this, Elliot was once again reminded of Corynn. She had also proposed a marriage, but at that time, he hadn’t felt the
same resistance and irritation he did now. Besides, his engagement to Amanda was merely a family arrangement; he had no real
feelings for the girl.
Thinking back, he realized that when Corynn first brought it up, he had genuinely considered settling down.
with her.
But his rational mind had overpowered his emotions, leading him to reject her proposal.
have sex with me!”
Realizing that she might’ve been a tad too blunt, Amanda’s face turned as red as a tomato. “I... I mean... Er, I
didn’t mean it like that...”
“I get where you’re coming from.” Elliot, having been pulled out of his reverie, suddenly lost his appetite. He
stood up and began clearing the table. “It’s just that I’m not thinking about marriage right now.”
Amanda sat there, looking up at Elliot helplessly. Gnawing at her lower lip, she decided to bite the bullet. “Is it
because of Corynn that you don’t want to marry me?”
After all, how could they take their relationship to the next level without intimacy?
Without that marriage certificate, Amanda would never feel secure, engaged or not!
Elliot’s hand, which was reaching for a dirty plate, paused mid–air. Then he replied nonchalantly, “This has nothing to do with
her.”

“Seriously?” Amanda retorted angrily, her voice rising unintentionally. “Then why won’t you touch me? Why could you sleep with
Faced with her aggressive questioning, Elliot was unfazed. He responded coolly, “Because you’re my fiancee;
you’re different from her.”
“Then why won’t you touch me?!” Amanda shrieked, on the verge of breaking down. @
At this point, Elliot’s patience was running thin. Just then, Kaden entered, putting an end to the senseless
interrogation.
“Mr. Andrews, there’s a video conference that requires your attendance.”
Elliot nodded. To Amanda, he said, “I have to get back to work. You should head home early.”
Amanda’s gaze burned into him as he walked past her. In the end, he stopped in his tracks, turned back, an
took out a bank card from the drawer.
“Go buy whatever you like,” he said with a smile, pressing the bank card into her palm.
Amanda clutched the card tightly. Since when did she ever lack money?!
“You know that’s not what I want!” she yelled after him.
“Oh, and drive safely.” Elliot ignored her little tantrum and left with Kaden.
Amanda watched his retreating figure, her fingernails digging into her palms, but she didn’t feel any pain.
Before Corynn had shown her face again, Elliot had never been so impatient with her, even if he was cold at times. Yet he still
had the audacity to claim that it had nothing to do with Corynn!
Taking a deep breath, Amanda looked down at the shiny black card in her palm and let out a cold, bitter laugh.
Did he really think this would placate her?
Impossible!
She grabbed her bag and stormed out, her high heels clacking against the floor loudly.
There was no way she could swallow this indignity!
