“Calculus,” Robert said, keeping his cool.

When Robert dropped that bomb, everyone in the room about jumped outta their skin. They didn’t see that one coming. Calculus
was touched on in high school, but it was all surface–level stuff.
But Robert was a different story. He’d been in a bunch of math competitions and had been teaching himself advanced math,
including calculus, for a while. He knew his stuff.
However, even if Elysia was sharp, her calculus knowledge was probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Everyone thought Robert’s choice was pure genius. It looked like Elysia might finally get the boot from Class 1.
As everyone waited for Elysia to embarrass herself, she stayed as cool as a cucumber.
‘He’s showing off with calculus like it’s a big deal, Oh well, my good student. Just watch how I’m gonna beat you!‘ Elysia thought
to herself.
For some reason, even though Elysia was going up against Robert. Justin had this gut feeling she was gonna win. Maybe he
didn’t even realize it himself, but his attitude toward her was changing bit by bit.
“Who’s gonna give us the question?” Elysia asked, raising an eyebrow.
One guy shot his hand up right away and said, “Tll do it!” With that, he whipped out his phone and started searching for a
calculus problem that was super tough.
The students around him leaned in. Finally, they settled on one and copied it onto the blackboard
When the competition started, Elysia didn’t pick up her chalk.
Everyone looked at her with confusion. ‘Is she really unsure? Or is she giving Robert ten seconds?”
Out of curiosity, Robert asked, “Aren’t you gonna answer?”
“I’m giving you a twenty–second head start!” Elysia said, her voice full of confidence.
The crowd thought, ‘What the heck! That’s so cocky! She only gave Bianca ten seconds, but Robert got twenty! Who does she
think she’s dissing? Does she even know that Robert ranks higher than Bianca? Or does she think Robert is less capable than
Bianca?
Elysia wanted to make it clear that she didn’t think that way at all The extra their mentor–mentee bond. It was her gift to him.
a ten seconds she gave Robert were purely due to
Robert’s face darkened, and he was in a really bad mood. He stopped writing on the blackboard and looked at Flysia, saying. “I
don’t need your head start.”
Twenty seconds passed, and they both started writing at the sain time.
At first, both of them looked relaxed. But halfway through, Robert’s face turned really ugly. He hit a snag in his calculations Just
as he was about to go back and find the mistake, Elysia put down her chalk, which meant he had lost

The students in the audience were all shocked. They couldn’t fully understand the answers on the blackboard, but they had
feeling that Elysia had won.
Elysia turned to the guy who had given the question and said calmly, “Time to grade
us!”
The guy snapped out of it and quickly compared the answer on his phone with the one on the blackboard. Although the steps
were a bit different in some places, the final answer was the same. It was clear that Elysia had won.
Everyone was at a loss for words and silently lowered their heads.
Bianca clenched her fists, thinking, ‘How did she win again? Why
Elysia looked at Bianca and said with a teasing smile, “Don’t forget what you promised me. You’re even worse than... a bad
apple... Bianca.” With that, she walked straight back to her seat.
Bianca’s body shook violently. She felt like Elysia was mocking her, saying she wasn’t even as good as a bad apple.
Seeing this, the other students also returned to their seats.
The bell rang, signaling the start of class. The teacher walked in with a textbook and began the lesson.
Elysia took out a piece of paper from her desk and continued writing her novel. She was just getting to the part where the
protagonists met.
Unconsciously, the image of the male lead popped into her ming–his deep eyes and his sharply defined features, dressed in a
black suit.
‘Wait a minute, this guy... Why is it Zane? Why am I thinking of him? I’m going crazy. Don’t get lost in his good looks!‘ she
thought, warning herself mentally, and then, she forcefully pushed Zane’s image out of her mind.
The bell rang out, and the school’s PA system crackled to life, calling Elysia to the principal’s office.
A buzz of excitement spread through the students. They were al thinking, ‘Did Elysia get in some kind of trouble? If she’s getting
a talking–to, that’s totally party–worthy!
In the principal’s office, Levi leaned back in his chair and said, “ysia, I heard you nodded off during the Language and
Composition exam.”
Elysia’s brow furrowed as she took in Levi’s words. ‘Why’s he suddenly all up in my business about napping in exams?’ She just
“Elysia, you’ve got great grades, but exams are serious business. Here’s the deal. I’ve got an extra set of papers here for you to
tackle.” Levi said, pulling out a stack of papers and sliding them deross the desk to Elysia.
Elysia flipped through them nonchalantly and then raised an eyebrow. “Are these for a Liberal Arts student?”
Levi coughed and explained a little sheepishly, “The teaching crew all agreed you should give the Liberal Arts test a shot, Take it
seriously. No slacking”
Levi hadn’t started off with this plan. It was more about the Liberal Arts classes not hitting the mark grade–wise.
Wayne Fletcher, the Liberal Arts track head, figured having Ely take their monthly exam could give the students a boost. If she
nailed it, they’d post her results as motivation.

Thinking about it, if a STEM student like Elysia could dominate Liberal Arts test, it’d be a real wake–up call for those classes.
They’d have to step up their game to save face.

It was like giving them a goal. Without it, they might just keep floating in their own bubble, clueless that there was a whole world
of competition out there.
Elysia tossed the papers onto the desk. T’m not doing it.”
“Elysia, this is a golden opportunity. Are you sure you wanna pay it up? Think about it. A good score and your name’s on the
Liberal Arts track honor roll. That’s some serious bragging rights Levi urged.
“I’m good, Elysia said, shrugging it off.
“Elysia, don’t shut the door on this. Give it some thought, Levi coaxed.
Elysia pondered for a beat and then spoke up. “If I do this, will you do something for me in return?”
“What do you need?” Levi inquired.
“I want to switch classes,” Elysia said flatly. She was over the daily drama in Class 1. They didn’t want her around, and she was
tired of the mind games. It was time to make a move. There would be less hassle and more peace.
Levi’s face scrunched up in confusion. “What’s wrong with Class 1?”
Elysia wanted to say plenty. They were all about the grades and the glory, and she was over that scene. She couldn’t see the
friendship in the crowd. With graduation still far off, she didn’t want to waste her time like this.
“I don’t vibe with this class,” Elysia declared.
“So... where do you want to go?” Levi asked, trying to keep up.
Elysia thought for a second and then said, “I heard Class 6 is the bottom of the barrel.”
“Yep.” Levi said, still trying to follow.
Then Class 6 it is,” Elysia said with determination.
Levi hummed and hesitated, unsure how to respond. ‘Class 6 was a bunch of slackers. Was Elysia throwing her future down the
drain?‘ he wondered.
