Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress

Chapter 1745

Chapter 1745: First Brother's decision

"Okay. Then I'll take it-before I get tried as someone who buried William Pierson alive."

Silence quickly filled the office as Zoren stared at the blank look on Atlas's face. His brows crinkled slightly, searching for any hesitation. There wasn't any.

Atlas just looked back at him as if what he said was just another Tuesday.

But now that Atlas had said it, Zoren couldn't help but think about it.

Many people knew that Atlas was currently the Chief Operating Officer because of a vote. He had entered under Old Mrs. Pierson and Zoren's recommendation, on the condition that he own shares in the company.

Atlas met that requirement, having bought some shares, and Penny had placed the shares she acquired under her brother's name as well.

In total, it was a small percentage—just enough to keep him in the shareholders' meetings, but not large enough to matter.

That was all on the surface, though.

Because in reality, Atlas had already been named heir by Old Mrs. Pierson.

In any case where something happened to her, Atlas would automatically assume her position as chairperson. She had done this to show her sincerity to the Bennet family.

With this, Atlas could retaliate if Zoren ever hurt Penelope. Of course, Old Mrs. Pierson was certain her grandson wouldn't do that—she believed in Zoren. However, it was a gesture meant to put the Bennet family-especially Charles and Allison-at ease.

Yet, nothing changed in Atlas.

He was still just as monotonous and fed up with the world, simply waking up in the morning, choosing which demon would take over him for the day, going on about his day, and repeating the cycle.

Atlas was well aware that if he used Old Mrs. Pierson's power, which was already under his authority, William Pierson wouldn't be complaining in his office. If anything, they would probably be bootlicking him to oblivion. Yet, Atlas hadn't done that. Not because he forgot he was the unofficial chairman of Pierson Corporation, but because he simply chose not to use that authority.

Meaning, Atlas was the perfect person to contain the Zorken family-assuming they could subdue Nathalie's forces.

They needed someone smart. Someone who could impress the other party, not a pushover. Someone with a deadly tongue. Someone who wouldn't flinch when facing a gun or under pressure. And most importantly, someone who wouldn't turn to the Bennets or to Zoren.

Zoren exhaled as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "That... Although I think it's the perfect plan, I believe it's not a decision I should make."

"It's not yours. It's mine," Atlas deadpanned. "And I've decided."

"First Brother, I suggest you discuss this with the family."

"I will. But none of what they say will change my mind," he replied. "As long as I

can visit them every once in a while... that's the only condition I need."

Atlas leaned back and gazed at the wall across from his seat, deep in thought. "Zoren."

Zoren didn't answer, but his silence let Atlas know he was listening.

"You said you remembered your previous life," Atlas began, shifting his eyes toward him. "And that you knew all that information because somehow, you believed my sister, even though you didn't know her."

Zoren kept his lips drawn into a thin line, eyes fixed on his brother-in-law.

"If so... did I die?" Atlas asked, his voice low and sincere. "If I did, would you tell me how?"

Another wave of silence fell over them as the two men held each other's gaze.

Penny and Zoren had agreed not to disclose certain things to her family, only the information about Nathalie. None of the Bennet brothers had asked him anything until now. It wasn't that Zoren believed they never would especially not Atlas.

After a beat, Zoren finally spoke. "You killed yourself."

"Hah." Atlas tilted his head and huffed. "I thought you killed me."

"I wanted to," Zoren admitted without flinching. "But I was hoping to keep you alive long enough to let you live with the guilt of failing your siblings. I didn't like you, after all."

"I didn't like myself either." Atlas propped his arm on the rest and leaned back. "If this happened now, I wouldn't kill myself—even though I had been planning how Penny could murder me and get away with it."

He paused, shifting his eyes away. His gaze dropped to the table before him, thinking about the crumbs he knew of his first life and the present one.

"That Atlas in the first life wasn't just a failure. He was a coward," he said, his voice quieter. "And because of him, I have to carry the guilt of his cowardice on my shoulders."

Because even now, even if Penny had forgiven him, Atlas could never forgive that Atlas. How could he forgive himself? He had pushed Penny until she broke, and instead of punishment, what he got was grace.

Again, silence fell between them, but this time it was heavy and thick. Both men

held each other's gaze until Zoren finally nodded.

"Then I'll discuss the code with you," Zoren said. "But First Brother, this also

"It doesn't matter." Atlas cut him off. "Whatever it means to you doesn't matter. I

already know what it means to me."

"Very well." Zoren let out a shallow breath. "Shall we begin?"
