Chapter 1209
Chapter 1209
"Don't you recognize that little girl? A few months back, she came looking for you at the Sheldon Group. What did she call you then? Doesn't she remind you of someone?"
Whitney's words came out of nowhere, completely derailing Sandy's thoughts. All of a sudden, she went silent.
Confusion washed over her. Her eyes flickered as she tried to piece things
together. Earlier, during her argument with Sienna, a little girl had dashed down the stairs, only to be shielded behind Sienna. Sandy distinctly remembered the girl calling out, "Mommy, Mommy!"
Back then, Sandy didn't know if the girl was calling out to Sienna-or to her.
Now, with Whitney's reminder, it clicked. That girl's face was familiar. Months ago at the Sheldon Group, she'd clung to Sandy's leg, refusing to let go, stubbornly calling her "Mommy."
"What are you getting at, Whitney?" Sandy felt like the air had been sucked out of her lungs. Her mind was racing, sparks flying, as she turned and stared at Whitney. "Look, I've heard the rumors-Shane has a secret kid somewhere. With his messy love life, it wouldn't be shocking. But what are you really trying to say?" Whitney frowned, the truth practically stuck in her throat, desperate to get out.
She gripped the steering wheel, hesitating. If she let the bomb drop now, who knew what kind of fallout would follow?
Would Sandy even believe her? What about Shane-how would he deal with this?
Things could get complicated real fast once they got to his place. She couldn't risk Sandy running off before they even got there.
Whitney narrowed her eyes, weighing her options. This wasn't her story to spill, not completely. She didn't know all the details, and it wasn't her place to lay it all out.
No, this was something Shane needed to tell Sandy himself-a secret buried between the two of them for years.
After a moment, Whitney kept her eyes on the road, her striking profile shadowed
in the glow of the passing streetlights. "Sandy, a four-year-old doesn't just call you 'Mommy' for no reason."
But Sandy was already unraveling.
Whitney's words had her head
spinning. I've never even seen Shane's daughter! Ever! You can't just throw out wild ideas like that. I might not have much, but have my pride. I've always lived straight Four years old? There's no way I was barely twenty when-"
"Weren't you in Europe around then?" Whitney cut in, voice low. "Didn't you lose your memory?"
As they pulled up to the luxury apartment complex, Whitney hit the brakes hard.
The seatbelt dug into Sandy's chest, knocking the wind out of her. Whitney's words struck like a thunderbolt.
How did Whitney know about her memory loss? Who had told her?
Before Sandy could demand
answers, Whitney sprang into action, not giving her a second to think. She popped open the door, grabbed Sandy by the wrist, and hauled her straight into the sleek, mirrored elevator.
