Love and Devotion No Longer His to Claim by Dream Fish

Chapter 418

Chapter 418
That kind of personality, combined with Austin's good looks and talent, made countless women flock to him. Yet, no one had ever
seen him get particularly close to anyone. Even with Angela, he'd always been distant, rarely showing any warmth.
Because of this, Angela had always felt a little intimidated around him and had never dared to get too close. But today, he'd
taken the initiative to add her.
She wondered if she should send him a message. Since he'd already made the first move, she figured she should at least show
some sincerity in return.
Suddenly, someone knocked on her door. Angela was shocked, then let out a sigh. The only person who'd come at this hour was
Dexter.
She wondered why he always appeared in the middle of the night instead of just going to bed like a normal person.
Feeling helpless, she opened the door, ready to confront him. However, she found Dexter standing there with a thermometer in

his mouth, looking sick and pitiful.
"I'm having a fever," he said hoarsely, his voice carrying a hint of vulnerability.
Angela reached out to touch his forehead. Sure enough, he was burning up. "Come in and sit down. I'll get you some medicine."
Honestly, she was being kind enough. He'd driven off earlier, leaving her no choice but to take a cab home. And now he was
sick. Clearly, karma was catching up with him.
Dexter lay on the couch, unusually well-behaved, with one hand resting on his stomach and the other on his forehead. In the dim
light, he looked like a sketch brought to life.
Angela brought him the medicine and poured a glass of water. After mixing the powder into the drink, she passed the glass to
him. "Here, drink this."
Dexter stayed silent, obediently drinking the medicine. Then, without a word, he got up and flopped onto her bed, his long legs
hanging off the edge. He looked both weak and completely at ease.
Angela was slightly stunned. "This is my bed. Go back to your own room to sleep!"

He didn't respond, lying still as if he'd already fallen asleep. With a sigh of resignation, Angela gave up. She grabbed a blanket

and settled on the couch for the night.
Maybe it Dexter's presence in the room, but the atmosphere felt different. The moment her head hit the pillow, she started dozing
off, smoothly and effortlessly.
In the dark, Dexter quietly sat up and watched her sleep, remaining silent for a long time. Then, he slipped off his shoes and
quietly walked over settling down beside the couch. He gazed at her peaceful, serene face as she slept.
It had been a long time since they'd shared a moment of such quiet closeness. Perhaps only at times like this would she set
aside her defenses and allow herself to sleep soundly in his presence.
He could sense that she still couldn't fully open her heart to him. An invisible
barrier seemed to separate them, holding them apart forcibly.
No matter how physically close they were, their hearts remained worlds away. He found it unbearable.
He'd previously dismissed the
concept of deep, passionate love, believing it to be nothing more than the product of hormonal reactions. The socalled "true love"
was just a businessman's scheme to exploit people financially. Nothing more. Cóntent belongs to
But he'd now become just another ordinary person among the masses. He'd fallen
in love. She'd once loved him too, but they were out of sync. That was his greatest torment.
Yet, it didn't matter. At least, for now, he was still the one by her side. Besides, he was patient enough. He could wait for the day
when she'd accept him wholeheartedly.
Just then, Angela's phone screen lit up.
