From Sneers to Cheers: Anthea’s Ascent

Chapter 528

Chapter 528
Just then, a maid hurried over. "Ma'am."
Karen turned, smoothing the loose sleeves of her blouse. "What is it?"
"Mr. Robinson is here. He's waiting for you in the living room."
"Daniel's here?" Karen sounded surprised.
"Yes, ma'am." The maid nodded.
Karen pinched the edge of her sleeve and followed the maid toward the living
room.
Daniel was sitting on the couch, but the moment he saw Karen, he jumped to his feet. "Ma'am."
Karen beamed at him. "Well, Daniel, what brings you here today?"
Daniel cleared his throat. “Ma'am, I wanted to discuss something with you. It's about Sherman."
Adah Bowman never got involved in these matters.
Latham Christensen had passed away years ago.
Right now, the only person who could rein Sherman in was Karen.
Back when Sherman didn't want to come to Cloudcrest, it was Karen's insistence that finally persuaded him.
So, if Karen agreed to speak on Rebecca's behalf, Sherman would almost certainly listen—and agree to marry her.

And if Sherman married Rebecca, then the Morris family's troubles could finally be resolved!
As far as Daniel knew, Karen was a reasonable elder and had always hoped Sherman would settle down and start a family.
Rebecca was so kind-surely Karen would be fond of her!
The more Daniel thought about it, the more excited he became.

Karen glanced at him. "So, Daniel, what is it about Sherman that you want to talk to me about?"
He weighed his words carefully, then said, "Ma'am, I wanted to talk to you about Sherman's future—his marriage, to be specific."
Karen's eyes lit up with delight. "Oh, Daniel! You noticed too, didn't you? Sherman's finally met someone he likes! I can tell things
are moving alongnicely. Honestly, if it weren't for me being such a persistent grandmother that rascal would never have landed
such a beautiful girl!"
Ever since he met Anthea, Sherman had changed so much.
He'd finally quit smoking.
Even changed his phone case.
At this rate, Karen thought, it wouldn't be long before she'd be holding her great- grandchild.
The thought filled her with joy.
Daniel stared at her in surprise. "So you noticed as well?"
Karen rolled her eyes. "I'm not blind, am I? Of course I noticed!"
Daniel sighed. "If even you can see it, why is Sherman still lying to himself...?" Everyone knew he liked Rebecca, but he kept
pretending otherwise, even going so far as to hurt her just to get her attention. Sherman was completely lost.

Karen chuckled. "You know what they say-sometimes you're too close to see the truth. Sherman's just caught up in his own
mess!"
"So you support them being together?"
Karen nodded, her face glowing with satisfaction. "Of course I do! I'm all for it!"
Daniel could see how genuinely pleased she was with Rebecca, and he finally relaxed. If Karen approved, everything else would
fall into place.
He pressed on, "Ma'am, the Morris family is in trouble now, and Rebecca can't keep waiting. Since you like her so much, why not
take chargeand restore the engagement between Sherman and Rebecca? Sherman's not getting any younger Let's go ahead

and start planning the wedding!"
Even though Daniel was fond of Rebecca, he knew better than to go after someone else's love. Only after seeing Rebecca marry
Sherman could he truly let
go.
The moment he finished, Karen's demeanor changed in an instant. She slammed her hand on the table and shot up from her
seat.
"What did you just say?"
Daniel jumped, startled by her sudden outburst. He nervously repeated his suggestion.
Karen glared at him, hands on her hips, her voice rising. "Have you lost your mind? That girl? You actually think she's good
enough for my Sherman? Restore then engagement? Where do you get the nerve? Sherman's treated you well, and this is how
you repay him? Are you trying to ruin his life?"
Daniel was completely dumbfounded. Hadn't Karen just said she liked Rebecca?
How could she turn on a dime like that?
It took him a moment to recover. "Ma'am, you misunderstood! I'd never want to
hurt Sherman—I only want what's best for him! Rebecca is truly a wonderful person, one in a million!"
