Chapter 2448

Chapter 2449
His mood was as restless as a storm, not finding a moment of peace. The
memory of Sophia dodging Robin's gaze earlier that day weighed on his heart like a boulder, causing an invisible ache.
He was willing to give her time to fall for him, yet he feared that before she could, she might turn back to Robin.
Given her childlike innocence and her past affection for Robin, could she truly let
him go?
His love for her, as deep as it had been, had already caused him pain. This time, she had given him hope. If she were to turn
away again, he wasn't sure he could bear it.
Jason stared into the abyss of the night, his unease as boundless as the darkness itself.
Sophia, too, had a restless night. Perhaps she had gone to bed too early, for after her bath, she lay awake, tossing and turning.
She tried forcing herself not to think of Jason, turned off the lights, and buried her head under the covers, counting sheep in an
attempt to find sleep.
But after only a few sheep, Jason's face would invade her thoughts, sometimes tender and holding her close, other times stern
and reprimanding.

Sophia caught herself drifting off topic and would drag her focus back to counting sheep.
This cycle repeated several times, leaving her mind buzzing and sleep nowhere in sight.
The moon hung large in the sky, its bright light making her heart flutter with
unease.
Eventually, she fell asleep, though she couldn't recall exactly when.
Close to dawn, she dreamt she was in Jason's study, seated on her usual couch, with him kissing her passionately.

She wanted to push him away but found herself too weak, her head spinning as if she were ascending in a hot air balloon, her
senses heightened with tension and excitement.
Suddenly, Evelyn appeared at the door, accusing, "Jason, Sophia is out dating Robin again. I saw everything!"
Jason stopped, slowly stood up, and looked at her with a cold, indifferent gaze. "Sophia, how could you do this to me?"
Sophia, panicked, shook her head. "Jason, it's not what Evelyn says!"
"Sophia, I'm really disappointed in you," Jason said coldly, turning away with Evelyn.
Evelyn looked back at her with a smug smile.
Sophia tried to follow them, but a fog had set in, obscuring everything. She couldn't find Jason no matter how hard she tried, her
fear and anxiety growing exponentially.
Sophia woke from her dream to the early morning light, weak and unable to penetrate the glass, casting a soft shadow.

Glancing at the time, she tried to forget the dream and went back to sleep.
When she woke again, the day was fully bright.
As she came downstairs, Old Mr.
let
Quintin was just returning from outside, greeting her warmly. "Up and at 'em, dear. Step outside, take breath of fresh air to wake
yourself up, else you won't have an appetite for breakfast."
Sophia playfully retorted, "But if I fill up on fresh air, I'll be even less hungry!"
"Evelyn's made breakfast, come see what treats she's prepared for you!" called out Evelyn from the kitchen.
Old Mr. Quintin took Sophia's hand. "Evelyn heard you love Arnold's pancakes, so she went out early to get them. Make sure you
have plenty."
Sophia knew Evelyn was putting on a show for their mentor, but with

him so happy, she didn't w witho
burst their bubble and played along.
"Thank you, Evelyn!" fo
Old Mr. Quintin, believing the two had reconciled, was overjoyed. "Let's see how those pancakes taste today!"
Sophia looked upstairs, saying nothing.
Evelyn, catching her glance, smiled. "Sophia, Jason took the car, but the driver
will take you to work and then me."
Sophia paused. "Jason left?"
Evelyn nodded. "Seemed like urgent business. He headed to the airport early this morning."
A void suddenly formed in Sophia's heart.
