Chapter 2447
Chapter 2448
The central heating in the house was cranked up high, leaving Sophia feeling parched. She grabbed a glass and headed
downstairs to the kitchen for some water.
Upon reaching the kitchen, Mrs. Simmons, the housekeeper, was busy prepping for the next morning's breakfast. Seeing Sophia,
she asked with concern, "Miss, have you been keeping well lately? The weather's been all over the place, temperatures
fluctuating wildly. And with your delicate constitution, you must take extra care of yourself."
Sophia felt a warmth in her heart at Mrs. Simmons' words, her thoughts drifting to Jason, who had seemed to cough earlier.
Feeling a softness inside, Sophia asked, "Mrs. Simmons, do we have any honey and lemon? I was thinking..."
"Oh, yes!" Mrs. Simmons beamed, "Given your frequent colds and sore throats, your father made sure we're always stocked with
honey and lemon for making soothing teas."
Sophia replied, "Could you make some tea then, please?"
"Are you feeling under the weather?" Mrs. Simmons inquired, surprised.
"No, it's not for me!" Sophia frowned slightly, "It's Jason - he's caught a cold. Could you prepare some tea for him?"
"Of course, I'll get right on it," Mrs. Simmons immediately said.
"Leave it to me!" Mrs. Simmons assured her, then with a smile, she asked, "Once
the tea is ready, would you like to take it up to Mr. Jason yourself?"
Sophia quickly responded, "No need, just have someone deliver it to him!"
She wasn't about to fuss over him!
"Understood, Miss. Don't you worry!" Mrs. Simmons chuckled.
"Thank you!" Sophia said before taking her glass of water and heading back upstairs.
After an hour of simmering, the tea was ready just as Evelyn stepped downstairs, heading straight for the kitchen. “Mrs.
Simmons, what's that delightful aroma? What are you making?"
Mrs. Simmons explained, "Miss Sophia asked me to make some tea for Mr. Jason since he's come down with a cold. It's to help
with the congestion and cough."
Evelyn's expression remained neutral. "Which Miss? When did we get a second Miss in the house?"
Mrs. Simmons paused, then quickly corrected herself, "I meant, Ms. Sophia Jones!"
Evelyn approached the kettle. "Is it ready? I'll take it up to Jason."
"Oh!" Mrs. Simmons handed her the tray. "Be careful, Miss, don't burn yourself!"
Evelyn carried the tray upstairs, reaching Jason's room and knocked, "Jason, are you awake?"
Evelyn, holding the tray with a gentle smile, said, "I heard you coughing after dinner, so I asked the kitchen to make some honey
lemon tea for you. It should help soothe your throat and clear the congestion. Please, have some."
Jason didn't even glance at the tray, declining coldly, "No need, take it back."
"Mrs. Simmons spent quite some time on it, it'd be a shame to waste!" Evelyn said with an innocent smile, stepping into the
room, "I'll just leave it here on the table for you. Consider it a small thank you for helping me with my work issue."
"Your thanks aren't necessary, but there are a few things I need to say to you," Jason's tone was cool, carrying an undercurrent
of authority.
Evelyn's back stiffened involuntarily as she responded, "What is it, Jason?"
"If you want to stay in this family, cut out the scheming. If I catch you stirring trouble with my mentor again, I don't care how you
got into this house, but I will make sure you leave the way you came," Jason's voice was calm but icy, "Understood?"
Evelyn's eyes reddened, and she bit her lip, "You're misunderstanding me."
"Don't play innocent. Don't think you can fool me like you did my mentor," Jason cut her off. "Estelle kindly brought you here from
Citadel, and we've never made you feel unwelcome. Remember that."
Evelyn's face tensed, "I'm grateful, always remembering the kindness shown to me."
"Good, then leave," Jason said.
Nodding, Evelyn turned and left.
Jason shut the door behind her, glancing at the tea on the table without touching
it. He sat down to work on his computer, busy until the early hours.
When he finally took a break, he stepped out onto the balcony, looking down to see that Sophia's room was dark, signaling she
had long gone to bed.
