Chapter 664
"Brandon, this is between him and me," Violette snapped. Her voice was tinged with irritation at his interference.
Brandon shot back, "When Odette stormed in here, shrieking like a banshee over your business, should I have given her the same cold shoulder you're giving me now?"
His words sent a shiver down Violette's spine, rooting her to the spot.
Today, she had come to lay everything out for Elijah, to tell him about the incident at the hotel.
In her mind, whether he believed her or not, she had to speak her truth. At least then, she could live without regrets.
Now, though, it seemed almost laughable.
How could she have forgotten about Odette?
Odette had rushed to her defense. Surely she had already told them what had happened that day.
Judging by their reactions, it was clear they didn't believe Odette's account.
With that in mind, Violette saw no point in wasting her breath.
"If you want to believe that woman in the video is me, then fine!" she said icily. "Pretend I was never here."
As she turned to leave, Elijah's grip on her arm stopped her. "Violette! I didn't say you could go." His breath was ragged, and his voice was firm. "I want to hear your explanation."
"Elijah, she already said she has no proof..." Brandon interjected helplessly.
"This is between her and me!" Elijah's eyes blazed as he glared at his friend. "I don't need anyone telling me what to do. Even if I'm wrong, I'll bear the consequences myself."
Seeing the resolve in his eyes, Brandon said no more and strode away.
Once Brandon had left, Violette yanked her arm free from Elijah's grasp.
"What Odette told you is what I came to say," she said. Her voice dropped. "You and Brandon are closer than Odette and I, right? Now you're making me out to be the bad woman."
She knew Brandon probably despised her now.
Though she didn't care for Brandon's opinion, the thought that her presence had caused a rift between the two friends left a bitter taste in her heart.
Elijah seemed not to hear her last remark, muttering, "Someone tricked you into going to that hotel, and then brought in a woman who looked almost exactly like you to film that video, just to smear your name."
"Sounds pretty far-fetched, right?
Like something out of a movie," she said with a bitter laugh. "It makes sense that Brandon doesn't believe me. As for you, I never had any illusions you'd take my word." Content belongs to Novelxo.org
Her attitude stung him.
Why would he have bothered to stop her if he didn't believe her? As she pointed out, he and Brandon were like brothers, yet here he was, willing to face off with his best friend for her sake. And her response? Nothing but arrogance and endless prejudice. Content belongs to Novelxo.org

"Violette, what gives you the right to treat me this way?" he said. His eyes were bloodshot, and his Adam's apple was bobbing. "No matter if that woman in the video is you or not, your attitude towards me has always been so damn

condescending!" Content belongs to Novelxo.org
"Am I supposed to get down on my knees and beg you?!" His words stung her. "You get to stand on your high horse demanding explanations from me, but I'm not
allowed to question your lack of faith?"
He was left speechless by her retort.
"Elijah, I've explained everything about the video as clearly as I could," she rattled off quickly, eager to leave. "I have other things to tend to. Goodbye." After saying that, she walked away briskly.
Elijah watched her retreating figure. His fists clenched tight.
This time, he was determined not to let his pride falter and to stand firm against any softening towards her.
After leaving the Bourne family estate, Violette's agitation did not subside. She couldn't remember how many times she had to defend her honor, tirelessly searching for evidence to prove her innocence.
