Chapter 663
He couldn't just blurt out his feelings to Mom. She'd never go for it.
With eyes clear and earnest, lan crafted a fib. "This summer camp really took it out of me."
Violette's heart ached as she agreed, "Honey, if you're ever overwhelmed with school work or stressed out, you tell me, okay? Education is important, but your health comes first."
lan nodded in agreement.
In Country A.
At the Bourne residence, 8 PM.
Brandon poured a glass of wine for Elijah but was met with a refusal.
"No more," Elijah admitted. His cheeks flushed with a rosy glow, and there was a tipsy sparkle in his eyes.
He was meeting Violette tomorrow. Overindulging tonight would ruin his composure. "Fine, I'll drink it myself," Brandon said, lifting his own glass and taking a hearty sip. "Easy on that," Elijah cautioned with a glance. "I know you mean well, but..."
"But what? You can't bring yourself to hurt Violette, right? Because of your kid, you can't be harsh." Brandon set down his glass. "I just want to remind you. The more you sink into this, the higher the cost. If you don't pull out now, you might never get another chance."
Falling in love was not easy for him, and letting go was even harder.
That was his fatal flaw, and his fatal strength.
"Elijah, as your buddy, I've always wanted you to be happy. I wouldn't care if you spent a fortune on a woman. But Violette has hurt you time and again. This latest stunt is beyond the pale, and it's the result of you letting her get away with everything."
Elijah's cold gaze dropped as he lit a cigarette.
"If she can prove tomorrow that she's not the woman in that video, I'll apologize. Any way she wants. But if she can't, I'll have to assume all her excuses are just lies." Brandon's words cut through the smoky air. His face was half-hidden in the haze.
After a moment of silence, Elijah flicked the ash from his cigarette into an ashtray.
"Brandon, used to think the world
was dull, just black and white. Then I met Violette, and she showed me its vibrant colors," he said. His voice was clear and steady. "She's like an addiction." Content belongs to Novelxo.org
"Elijah, I know it's hard for you to leave her, but if you don't take this step, she'll keep hurting you," Brandon insisted.
"Let's talk about it tomorrow. I'm exhausted," Elijah said. His expression was
darkening as he snuffed out the cigarette and headed upstairs.
The next day, at 8 AM, Violette arrived at the Bourne family estate, escorted by her bodyguard.
Knowing Elijah's routine, she anticipated he would be up by now.
Lacey saw her and immediately welcomed her inside.
"Violette, have you been skipping meals? You haven't gained a pound," Lacey said as she brought breakfast to the table. "Eat up. The master She down shortly." Content belongs to Novelxo.org
"Lacey, I already had breakfast," Violette replied awkwardly. "You don't need to fuss over me."
As they spoke, Elijah descended the stairs, followed by another figure.
Brandon had drunk a bit too much the night before and had stayed over.
Violette's anxiety spiked at the sight of them both. F
acing Elijah alone wouldn't have unnerved her. Mike had warned her that Brandon held a deep grudge and had been urging Elijah to dump her.
Elijah approached, noticing she was holding a cup of milk, and said calmly, "Have some breakfast first."
"I'm full," she replied, setting down the cup.
Brandon, seizing the moment after her response, confronted her, "Violette, you
claim you're not the woman in the video. Do you have any proof?"
"No," she responded. Her gaze was involuntarily seeking Elijah's.
"So what are you here for? To spin a tale or to beg for forgiveness?" Brandon scoffed. "Don't look at him with those puppy-dog eyes! Even if you were to kneel and beg today, it wouldn't make a difference!" Content belongs to Novelxo.org
