Chapter 659
She couldn’t even begin to imagine Elijah’s reaction to the video.
All she wanted was for him to trust her unconditionally, but she soberly understood that he was a man of pure reason.
Until she could provide evidence to prove the woman in the video wasn’t her, she dared not hope for his trust.
“Yes,” Mike sighed. “Scandals like this spread like wildfire. I’ve managed to get the video and related topics taken down from the internet, but the cat’s
out of the bag now.”
Violette’s ankles wobbled, nearly sending her tumbling to the floor.
“Violette, since it’s not you, we have to root out the woman in the video! Otherwise, she might continue to masquerade as you and cause more
trouble!” Mike gritted his teeth. “Don’t even look at the comments online. They’re brutal. I don’t want you getting stressed out and harming the baby.”
“How can we root her out?” Violette’s fingers clenched her phone tightly. There was a throbbing pain pulsing at her temples. “Who could this woman
be?!”
“I think the prime suspect is Nora,” Mike analyzed calmly. “She’s had work done to look just like you, and it’s eerily convincing. Her intentions are clear
Violette’s thoughts aligned with his, b
ut where would they find the proof?
Unless Nora could perform an impersonation act in public.
“Stay in B Country for now, Violette. I’ll check into Nora’s activities over the past week,” Mike said. “Don’t come back until I’ve got everything sorted.”
“Why can’t I come back? It’s not me in that video. I’ve got nothing to be ashamed of. I don’t need to hide!” Violette’s emotions spiraled out of control.
The hormonal imbalances of pregnancy made managing her emotions far more difficult than before.
“Violette, that’s not what I meant. I’m worried about the media frenzy back home,” Mike explained. “You need to rest, to take care of yourself and the
baby. The baby has to come first.”
“I won’t let those media vultures get to me. I know it’s a trap. Why would I make myself sick over it?” She calmed down, “If anything happened, it
would only please my enemies.”
“Good that you understand,” Mike was relieved. “By the way, has Elijah reached out to you?”
“I don’t think so.” She hadn’t noticed any messages from Elijah when she checked her phone earlier.
After hanging up, Violette emerged from her room, pale as a ghost.
Seeing Rita, she quickly adjusted her emotions, forcing a smile. “Sweetie, let’s go out for lunch.”
In A Country.
Elijah’s bodyguard had swiftly pulled records from the Caesar’s Palace, pinpointing the guest information from the previous week.
Violette’s name was highlighted in bold red on the document.
“Boss, the hotel records show that Ms. Dennis had dinner in the hotel’s VIP dining room before retiring to room 609,” the bodyguard said nervously,
glancing at Elijah.
Elijah sat at his desk. His face was shadowed with an icy, foreboding expression that seemed to chill the room.
The bodyguard felt like at any moment, the coffee cup on the desk might become a projectile weapon.
“And... Ms. Dennis left the hotel at eight in the evening. She seemed in a hurry and didn’t stop at the front desk to reclaim her deposit,” he continued.
“When the waitress went to clean the room, she found a used... condom... on the bed...”
The bodyguard stammered through this part. His voice dropped to nearly a whisper.
Without warning, the coffee cup on Elijah’s desk took flight!
With a crash, it shattered on the floor. The fragments were scattering like accusations.
Everyone in the room held their breath, afraid to even exhale.
Just then, a cellphone ringtone cut through the tension...
