Chapter 43
Demi's words weren't born from mere anger.
At that moment, trapped inside the burning car, engulfed by smoke and searing heat, she had truly wondered, "Did the Pitt family want me dead?"
If they had only forgotten she was in the car, shouldn't they have realized it within three, or five seconds? Or at the very least, after ten?
But no.
Even as she had closed her eyes in despair, she never saw the Pitt family return for her.
Perhaps they had forgotten at first. But when they did remember, were they too terrified of the danger to come back and save her?
After all, in the eyes of the Pitt family, she had never mattered much.
Or maybe, just as they claimed later, she had never crossed their minds in the first place.
And then there was the possibility that haunted her most during those helpless moments—they left her there on purpose.
No matter which possibility it was, the thought was chilling to the core.
The Pitt family members stared at Demi, wide-eyed and stunned.
The next moment, Michelle clutched her chest, her face crumpling in pain. Her voice trembled as she stammered, "Demi, how could you think that
about me? I'm your biological mother!"
"Biological mother?" Demi let out a cold laugh, her tone dripping with biting sarcasm. "Then, you've been a fantastic mother! You made your biological
daughter work as a housekeeper, serving your entire family, including the fake daughter you've brought home.
Michelle's lips moved, but no words came out.
Before anyone else could speak, a voice called out from inside the house.
"Demi, who are you talking to out there?" Margaret's voice broke the tension.
Demi's expression shifted ever so slightly. She realized Margaret had woken up.
She had completely forgotten about this, Margaret usually woke up around this time every day.
Demi sent out her Divine Sense, sweeping the room to check on Margaret. She saw Margaret getting up and slowly reaching for her clothes.
Without hesitation, Demi flicked her finger, releasing a thread of spiritual energy.
It landed softly on Margaret's sleep pressure point, and Margaret slumped back into bed, falling into a deep sleep once again.
Stephen glanced toward the house, his gaze flickering briefly, before turning back to Demi.
"Demi, you want your grandma and your brother to live a good life, don't you? If you come back with us, I'll have them brought to Lynora City. We'll
get them proper medical treatment and make sure they have a decent quality of life."
Demi smiled, but the smile was sharp, laced with mockery.
She lifted her gaze, her eyes locking onto Stephen. "So, you knew. You knew I couldn't stop worrying about my grandma and my brother.
"You knew I was desperate to get them the medical care they needed. That's why I've been working like some tireless, dignity-less mule, just to
scrape together enough money.
"And yet, you all pretended not to notice. You sat back and watched me live like a clown. But if it were Ana in my place, worrying about something,
you'd have tripped over yourselves to throw money and help at her, wouldn't you?"
Stephen opened his mouth to respond, but Demi didn't give him the chance. She kept going, her voice cutting through the stillness.
"You act like you've come here full of sincerity, begging for my forgiveness, asking me to come back. But shouldn't your biggest gesture of sincerity be
admitting that I'm the Pitt family's biological daughter and treating me as such?
"You didn't even dare bring Ana here with you. Why? Are you afraid that calling me Emi in front of her will upset her? But when you call her Annie,
have you ever thought about whether that would upset me? Oh, it's fine, isn't it? Because you don't care."
When she'd first been brought back to the Pitt family, they used to call her Emi as a way of showing affection. But every time they tried to be warm
toward her, Ana would get upset.
She'd sneak away to cry, only to return with a forced "brave" smile on her face, pretending everything was fine.
After that, the Pitt family stopped calling her Emi and began calling her Demi instead. Their warmth toward her began to fade, and their affection grew
distant, diluted.

"Demi, this sudden change was a shock to Ana. She just wasn't used to it. Once she gets used to things, we'll acknowledge you as part of the family,"
Michelle said finally.
Her tone was soft, almost pleading, and tinged with helplessness and hurt.
