Chapter 31
Chapter 31 Manners
All these years, no one had spoken a word of justice for her, not even half a sentence.
No matter how hard she fought, how loudly she screamed, how fiercely she resisted, it was futile; no one would hear her.
She felt as if she were a trodden, withered flower in the mud, drained of all strength to struggle.
But Ethan's words somehow managed to stir her long-stilled heart with a miraculous flutter.
"Bro-no, that's not right. She hadn't teamed up with May yet; it was later that she conspired with May, aiming to swindle my
family's money," Serena stammered nervously under Ethan's intense gaze.
Ethan had an overwhelming presence.
Ignoring Serena, Ethan walked straight up to Jasmine. "Auntie Geena's not around. I had her fetch me a glass of water. Any
problem with that?"
Daniel looked at Ethan in astonishment. His words were fine, but the fact that Ethan was speaking up for Jasmine was not.
This was completely out of character for Ethan.
Why would he defend a woman, especially someone like Jasmine?
Daniel's jealousy only deepened.
"As a man, you hit a woman. That's really something, Daniel," Ethan said coldly, his anger flaring at the sight of the handprints
stark on Jasmine's pale face.
Daniel clenched his fists, unwilling to admit he had struck Jasmine.
With a stern face and a voice like a brewing storm, Ethan commanded, "Apologize!" Daniel stared at Ethan in shock, wondering
why he should apologize...
Staggering back a few steps, Daniel struggled to keep his footing.
"Daniel!" Serena ran over in a panic, helping him to steady himself.
Daniel glared at Ethan, convinced this was intentional. It was absolutely deliberate!
Ethan normally never meddled in others' affairs, but today, he seemed determined to use Jasmine's situation to get back at him,
all because he'd secretly reached out to Mr. Patrick. This was a warning not to pull any stunts at the company.
After a long moment of restraint, Daniel took a deep breath. "Ethan... I realize I was wrong."
Ethan frowned at Daniel, wondering how the Douglas family could raise such vulgar offspring. "Should that apology be directed
at me?"
"Sorry..." Daniel felt humiliated by Ethan and practically spat out his apology to Jasmine.
Sitting on the ground, Jasmine felt a strange rush of support backing her-it was a dangerously addictive feeling.
But that was why Ethan shouldn't have gotten involved.
Jasmine struggled to her feet, clutching her cheek as she turned and walked away.
She was frail, her slight frame making it seem like she could be swept away by a mere breeze.
Ethan cast a glance at Jasmine and turned his cold gaze on Daniel. "Didn't your mother ever teach you any manners?"
Daniel clenched his teeth in frustration. Ethan was aiming to humiliate him and, worse, to drag his mother's name through the
mud.
He knew Ethan had never thought much of him or his mother, simply because she rose from being 'the other woman' to a
position of influence, rather than coming from a distinguished family.
Ethan had never acknowledged him for as long as he could remember.
"Stay away from the office for a while; take some time to think things through at
home!" Ethan warned before striding off, intent on leaving the house that he could not bear to stay in any longer.
After Ethan left, Daniel began to furiously smash things around the room.
"Ethan, Ethan! Who does he think he is, bossing me around?!" He raged.
"Daniel..." Serena said, fearfully clinging to him.
"Someday, I will trample him beneath my feet. The Douglas Family's fortune and company will be mine. Then, we'll see if Ethan
can still strut around!"
The resentment within Daniel was palpable.
"It's all Jasmine's fault," Serena sobbed, "She did it on purpose. She planned to get close to Ethan and pit you brothers against
each other-just to make life difficult for the Wilsons and the Douglases. She's so conniving. She knew Ethan was the only one in
San Francisco who could help her, so she came back for revenge." "Daniel, what if Ethan keeps protecting Jasmine? What if she
refuses to donate a kidney to me?" Serena cried.

"He wouldn't dare!" Daniel was furious. "Ethan would never fall for a woman like her!"
In Daniel's eyes, Ethan was merely exploiting the situation.
As for Jasmine, she continued to be deceptive, with a cunning mind.
With that in mind, Daniel resolved not to let her off the hook tomorrow.
"Daniel, we should get her married off to the butler's son soon. That'll solve a lot of
issues for us," Serena suggested, trying to get her plan in motion.
"You're right," Daniel agreed.
On the roadside.
Jasmine didn't dare go home tonight; the red mark of a slap was still emblazoned on her face.
She walked slowly, her ankle still throbbing painfully.
"Get in."
A sleek black sedan pulled up to the curb.
Ethan was the one speaking.
