In the lounge area, as more people crowded around the food, Sofia grew more worried that something might happen to
Stephanie, especially since she was in a delicate state. She urged, “Stay here while I get you something to eat.”

Before she could mention that she wasn’t allowed to eat more, Sofia hurried off. Alone on the sofa, Stephanie adjusted her coat.
Even though the indoor temperature was comfortable, she felt cold since her pregnancy began.
She still wore the scarf that Sebastian had taken off just moments ago. A server approached and offered her water, to which she
replied gratefully, “Thank you.”
“Would you like something to cat? The food station is over there,” the server said.
“No, thank you,” Stephanie replied.
“You’re welcome,” the server said respectfully.
Stephanie glanced at the water in her hand. She contemplated for a moment before setting it down. She pulled out her phone
and saw a message.
Ella: [Stefi, remember when I proposed to Lorenzo? He never agreed, so why does he want me now? Does that mean he’s only
after my body and has no intention of committing?]
Stephanie was taken aback. This added to the confusion already swirling in her mind. Since Lorenzo and Ella lived together,
Stephanie couldn’t help but wonder what had happened between them.
Stephanie: [I don’t think Lorenzo is after your body.]
Ella: [Why?]
Stephanie: [Don’t ask me. I don’t know.] The truth could be hurtful; silence seemed better.
Ella pressed on: [Are you implying that my figure isn’t appealing?]
Stephanie didn’t say that, but Ella wouldn’t let up. Feeling overwhelmed, Stephanie finally sent: [Compared to the women
Lorenzo has met, yes.]
Ella went silent. As Stephanie wondered whether to say more, she overheard two women talking about her.
Sable said, “Why would Lottie support Stephanie’s relationship with Sebastian? Stephanie was raised by her and is basically her
Stephanie’s expression darkened. Recalling Chris’s words on the phone, she recognized the truth in his warning. Even in the
more accepting Fiorenza, their relationship could not easily find acceptance.
Lucinda said, “Honestly, Stephanie might be Lottie’s love child.”
Sable gasped, shocked.
Lucinda added, “Otherwise, why would Lottie back such a union? Now I’m starting to doubt the truth about her husband’s death
three years ago.”
Sable said, “The Murphy family was eager to see Mireille marry Sebastian. Mireille has admired him since high school, and now
Stephanie has swooped in.”
Lucinda said, “Maybe Stephanie is Lottie’s legitimate daughter, and Sebastian is the love child. Lottie is very fond of Stephanie–
she even picked her up from school.”

Sable said, “Silas must be pitiable. Back when he was alive, there were already whispers about Lottie and her lover.”
In the sparsely populated corner, their words grew bolder. Stephanie slowly put her phone into her bag and took the glass of
water.
As Stephanie moved toward them, the two women, engrossed in their gossip, remained unaware of her presence. When Sofia
arrived with food, she saw Stephanie pour the glass of water over Sable’s head. Sofia realized Stefi was anything but fragile.
The hot water caused Sable to cry out. “What do you think you’re doing?”
The two gossiping ladies stared in disbelief at Stephanie. Recognizing her, Sable couldn’t find the words–she knew the
reputation of the Giovanni family in Fiorenza; she dared not to provoke Stephanie.
Lucinda, unfamiliar with Stephanie, didn’t recognize her. Lucinda quickly pulled Sable behind her and glared at Stephanie in
anger. “Have you lost your mind?”
Stephanie met her glare with a cold stare. In a quick motion, she threw the glass at Lucinda’s face.
Lucinda winced in pain, collapsing to the ground and clutching her face. “I’ll kill you!”
Before Sable could react, Lucinda made a move toward Stephanie. But just as Lucinda got near, Stephanie kicked out, striking
Lucinda in the abdomen. Caught off guard, Lucinda gasped in pain.
Lucinda yelled, “Do you know who my dad is?”
Fully aware that her relationship with Sebastian would attract mockery, she refused to let anyone tarnish her parents‘ names.
Lucinda struggled to get up as she inched toward Stephanie, ready to strike, feeling humiliated for the first time. Her face
throbbed, bruised from the hit. Just as she prepared for another attack, she felt another sharp pain in her belly.
Sofia had intervened. Seeing the threat against Stephanie, she rushed in without hesitation, kicking Lucinda away. She threw a
plate of food straight at Lucinda’s face.
Already injured from Stephanie’s attack, the new blow hit Lucinda squarely on the forehead, causing her world to spin. Her gasp
was deep suffering.
Sofia quickly pushed Stephanie behind her as Sable started to get her bearings. Upon seeing Sofia, Sable’s eyes widened in
fear.
Sofia met her gaze, realized the mess she had made, and recognized that the woman she clashed with earlier was not alone.
Two women gossiping together could only mean one thing–trouble.
“Now, confess–what were you talking about earlier?” Sofia asked in a serious tone.
Lucinda, regaining her composure, started to prepare a second fight, but the mention of “Sofia” paused her movements. Pale–
faced, she fell back onto the ground.
Sable, receiving Sofia’s icy glare, felt her heart race. “We’re sorry!” She was scared to say more before Sofia, acknowledging her
earlier comments in Sofia’s presence would spell doom for her family.
Stephanie huffed, “They think that either Sebastian or I am a love child of our mom.”
At the mention of “Sebastian“, those nearby gasped collectively. Those who gathered to see the commotion realized the
Giovanni family was involved and kept their comments to themselves.
These women who spoke so boldly were flirting with danger. Sofia’s gaze darkened even further.

Confronted with Sofia’s stare, Sable felt fear. “Sofia, we made a mistake; we’re sorry.” Rapidly apologizing, she added, “We truly
regret it.”
Sofia turned to Stephanie. Stephanie wore a look of indifference, completely rejecting Sable’s apology. She would not tolerate
any smear against the reputation of the Giovanni family.
As Sebastian and Elliot arrived on the scene, they heard Stephanie declare, “Not all wrongs can be fixed with a simple apology.”
Her voice was cold and ominous as she continued, “Some mistakes come with inevitable consequences.”
