The Indifferent Ex-Husband Heartstrings in the Mall of Fate

Chapter 675

Chapter 675

Brandon's eyes slowly crinkled with a hint of a smile.

He didn't say anything further, just reached out and gently patted her head.

Sophia managed a tight-lipped smile too, not saying anything else, but inside, she felt a bit lost, grappling with a weight that felt too much to bear.

Theresa noticed Sophia and Brandon hadn't made a move for a while, so she dropped the sand she was playing with, looking at them with a puzzled twist of her head.

Brandon glanced at his watch and then at her, "Theresa, it's getting late, how about we head back, take a bath, and hit the hay?"

Theresa cast a longing glance at the half-bucket of sand she had collected, hesitated for a moment, but nodded, "Okay."

She efficiently dumped the sand out of the bucket and stood up.

Sophia and Brandon went over to help her tidy up, and then they all walked home together.

As they were nearing their complex, Sophia's phone rang.

She glanced down, it was Amanda calling.

Sophia's hand hesitated on her phone before she answered.

"Hey, godmom."

Brandon slowed his pace, watching Sophia calmly take the call under the streetlight.

Sophia's grip tightened on the phone, her attention fully on the voice at the other end.

Amanda sounded a bit down, "Sophia, you haven't called me in days."

"Sorry, godmom."

Sophia felt a twinge of guilt, "I've been trying to process some stuff from the past few days, haven't got my head straight, not sure what to say on the phone, so I've been putting it off, sorry."

Before she knew she was a man's wife and a child's mother, she had promised Amanda to spend the New Year with her, but with the current situation, there was no way she could leave Theresa and Brandon to go back with Amanda.

This decision must be a letdown and hard on Amanda.

She had been digesting the fact that she was Sophia these past few days; so much to process that aside from sending a WhatsApp to Amanda the day she woke up to reassure her that she was okay, she really hadn't had the chance to comfort Amanda.

To her apology, Amanda just forced a smile, "It's okay."

Then she asked, "Remember everything? What's the deal with the guy who took you away that day? Is he treating you well?"

"He's pretty good to me."

Sophia reassured her, "Don't worry."

"What's your relationship with him?"

The concern in Amanda's voice hadn't faded, "Don't tell me he's some

opportunist taking advantage of your amnesia."

"That's not the case, rest assured."

Sophia soothed her and changed the subject, "You guys must have gone back,

right?"

"No."

Amanda said, "We're still in the West district."

"Huh?"

Sophia was surprised.

She had messaged Amanda after waking up to let them go back first and she would visit once things settled down. Amanda hadn't replied to her message.

Sophia had assumed they had gone back already.

"Are you free tomorrow night? I'd like to have dinner with you."

Amanda proposed.

Sophia hesitated a moment, then nodded gently, "Yeah, sure. Are you still on the boat?"

Amanda replied, "The ship left the day after you got off, I'm at the Spring Hotel now, same room."

Sophia nodded, "Okay, I'll book a restaurant and come pick you up tomorrow

then."

"Sounds

ood."

Amanda nodded lightly, gave some more advice, and then hung up.

Sophia pocketed her phone and looked towards Brandon, who had slowed down

to wait for her, about to tell him about the plan when Brandon spoke up first, "I'II come with you tomorrow."

Seeing the hesitation in Sophia's eyes, he added, "They saved you, and I was already looking for a chance to thank them.

I thought the Ferber family's cruise had already set sail, and I was planning to find time after the New Year to accompany you to personally thank them. Since they're still in the West district, let's go together and thank them properly."

Sophia remembered the tension between him and Harvey Ferber when he boarded the ship that day

and worried that a meeting with a

Amanda might also turn sour hesitating, "Maybe I should just go and say thanks myself not sure if Harvey Ferber will be there, and don't want you guys to clash

again."

"Don't worry, I'll handle it,"

Brandon assured her, "I was just a bit pushy that day because I was desperate to find you, but no matter what, I've got to properly thank them.

Without them, there would be no you."

Sophia broke into a smile and nodded lightly, "Okay, let's go together then, but I might need to give godmom a heads up tomorrow, don't want her to get upset."

Brandon chuckled and nodded, "Sure."

As they reached the elevator, he casually pressed the button.

They both entered the elevator together.

When they stepped out of the elevator, Sophia's phone rang again, this time from

President Poe.

Sophia gestured to Brandon and Theresa to go ahead with a "you guys go

ahead" hand signal, then answered the call.

Brandon glanced at Theresa, who was already dozing off in his arms, nodded,

and left the door ajar for her as he went in, then pointed to the door, signaling she

could take the call there.

"I'll put her to bed and get her ready, you can take the call at the door, it won't

disturb Theresa,"

Brandon said.

Sophia nodded and walked towards the door while answering the call, but

stopped just outside to avoid waking Theresa, turning her back to speak with

President Poe.

Just like before, President Poe was calling to check on the progress of the design

proposal.

Sophia had already discussed this issue with Brandon in the past couple of days.

"Can I get back to you with an answer tomorrow?"

Sophia felt a bit apologetic, "I'll touch base with Mr. Crawley first."

"No worries, all good."

President Poe got the vibe that

Sophia and Brandon were on the same wavelength and was prettyn stoked, "Alright then, hit me up with your decision after you guys have hashed it out. If you run intoany hiccups while talking to Mr Crawley, give me a ring anytime, and I'll step in to smooth things over." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!

"Sure, thanks a bunch, President Poe."

Sophia flashed him a smile of gratitude but didn't go into the nitty-gritty of her

relationship with Brandon. It was a bit of a can

worms and not something st

could

clarify in a jiffy. But given how Brandon was treating her lately, she

reckoned their collaboration on the

science museum design project should be pretty much smooth sailing.

"I'm gonna drop off now, President Poe. You go ahead with your stuff, and I'll

circle back to you ASAP with the outcome tomorrow," Sophia told President Poe.

"Alrighty, go do your thing."

President Poe responded with a chuckle, they exchanged a few pleasantries,

and then the call ended.

Sophia pocketed her phone, about to head back to her room, when she heard the elevator doors slide open.
