Chapter 671
Chapter 671
Sophia could definitely tell that Brandon was giving Daniel the side-eye,
something distinctly different from the way he treated everyone else. She couldn't help but shoot a worried glance his way.
Brandon caught her eye and gave her shoulder a nudge with the elbow that was cradling his plate.
"Let's bounce," he said.
"Okay," Sophia nodded, keeping her questions to herself and obediently followed him.
"Brandon," Daniel piped up, his voice tinged with hesitation and a hint of sucking up, totally missing his usual swagger.
The way Daniel unintentionally let slip that whiff of desperation in his voice made Sophia do a double-take.
Daniel was giving Brandon the puppy-dog eyes, looking like he was bursting to say something but holding back, kind of pitiful to watch.
Sophia couldn't resist glancing at Brandon, but he was unbothered, not even sparing a glance back at Daniel, just gently steering her and Theresa forward.
Hannah, who had been eyeballing the scene from a short distance, scrunched up her forehead in confusion but didn't come over to say hi. Instead, she just grabbed her plate.
It wasn't until Sophia and Brandon sat down in a corner that she looked up at him and whispered, "Who was that guy, anyway?"
Brandon paused mid-motion with the utensils, then turned to her and asked, "He didn't say anything out of line to you, did he?"
Sophia shook her head, "Nope."
"He was pretty polite," she added, "Seemed like a decent guy."
That question threw her for a loop, and she mulled it over for a second.
"I guess... I'm not too keen on hanging out with him," she confessed.
"Then don't," Brandon shrugged. "He's not worth your time."
Sophia was like, "Okay," but then hesitantly looked up at him, "But you know, I kind of got the same vibe from you when we first met."
Only that feeling was all tangled up with a whole bunch of other complicated emotions.
Brandon just gave her a look: "I'm not like him."
Sophia couldn't help but throw a slow "Okay" back at him, though it was hard to tell if she was really taking it in or just brushing it off.
Brandon reached out and gently lifted her chin with his finger, gazing into her eyes like he was trying to read her mind: "What's 'okay' supposed to mean?"
Sophia locked eyes with him, "It means I got it."
"And then?" he pressed.
Well, that had her eyes doing a little dance of confusion. How was she supposed to know what comes next?

Theresa, who had been focusing on
her meal, looked up at Brandon and
Sophia, a bit puzzled. She hadn't m
really caught their conversation, but she vaguely remembered her dad
saying he was different from that old man, so she chimed in a beat late to back up Brandon: Yeah, Dad's different. He wouldn't scream at Mom like that grandpa." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!

Brandon didn't expect Theresa to
pipe up and it was too late to stop her. Sophia frowned at thes&eam at Mom bifa and couldn't help but ask Brandon, "Why would he want to yell
at me? Do we have beef or
something?" The content is on

"No beef," Brandon assured her. "It's all on him, nothing to do with you."
"What's his deal with you then?" Sophia inquired.

That was a tough one for Brandon to
answer. If he spilled the beans that Daniel was his old man he'd have to was his old
dive into why he chewed her out, and that meant digging up a whole lot of drama. The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!
Sophia could see he was in a bind, so she didn't push it and just smiled, "Let's just eat, our food's getting cold. Who he is doesn't really matter."
Brandon cracked a smile too and suddenly reached out to ruffle her hair, keeping
mum.
"Sophia," he said after a little while, his voice soft, "He's my father, in the biological and legal sense, but we're done with each other."
Sophia looked at him, surprised, "Why's that?"
She couldn't fathom what kind of storm it would take to cut father-son ties.
