Chapter 522
Chapter 522
A while later, Charles, who was enjoying his spa and massage with several other business owners, got a call from the hospital
that his parents had discharged themselves. The delight on his face disappeared. Why would his parents leave the hospital?
He quickly called his father but could not get through. The same happened with his mother.
Anxious, Charles called the hospital, demanding an explanation. How could the hospital release his parents without informing
him first?
The nurse explained, "They said there were not enough beds in the hospital because of the current situation and believed other
people needed the treatment more than them, so they insisted on leaving. We tried to convince them to stay, but they were
adamant."
Charles was stunned.
Not enough beds in the hospital? What kind of excuse was that? He had the money to pay for their medical bills!
He had more than a million at hand, and if he kept working hard, the money he was making would be enough to last him a
lifetime! Why would his parents leave the hospital now?
Charles was no longer in the mood to relax, and after informing the other
business owners, he left in a hurry. On the way home, he kept dialing his father's phone number, but no one answered. When he
Anxiety gnawed at him. Both of them were seriously ill, so where could they have gone?
Meanwhile, Xavier and Jessica arrived at Stephen's office. They revealed their identities at the reception, and when Stephen
learned that Charles' parents were looking for him, he told his men to let them in. Within moments, they were standing face-to-
face with Stephen.
Stephen was having a tough time right now trying to fix the problems of the city, so he was baffled to see Xavier and Jessica.
"Mr. and Mrs. Hansen, what can I do for you?"
"Are you Charles' superior?" Xavier asked. Stephen nodded.
For a brief moment, anger flickered in the elderly couple's eyes.
The young man before them was the one who locked up Ethan, framed him, and stole the credits from him. However, they knew
Stephen was a powerful man, far beyond the reach of ordinary people like them.
"We're here to report Charles."
This decision had taken everything they had. The entire way here, they had been conflicted-torn between their loyalty to their son
and their commitment to doing the right thing.
They had lived through tough times before, and what was happening now reminded them too much of the past. They could not
stand by and watch their town descend into the same chaos.
They did not want to see Hill City fall back into the dark times it had experienced years ago. Besides, Ethan had contributed too
Stephen was shocked. He thought he heard Xavier wrongly. Were Charles'
parents there to report their own son?
"What exactly are you reporting?"
Stephen leaned back on his chair and was not concerned. He knew Charles well enough to know that the man was loyal.
"The mayor came to us earlier and told us that Charles has been taking bribes. We've noticed a big change in him recently, too.
Out of nowhere, he's come into large sums of money. That's why we're here to file an official report."
Stephen's expression turned serious.
The two of them did not look like they were joking. They were Charles' real
parents. What kind of parents would simply report their own son?
Stephen took a deep breath and said, "I'll get my men to investigate it."
On second thought, he could not help but ask, "Why are you reporting Charles? He's your son."
Jessica said weakly, "He's young and immature, but we're not."
Stephen narrowed his eyes. He was speechless.
Xavier looked at him and continued, "We also have another request."
"What is it?"
Xavier exchanged quick glances with his wife and then got down on their knees together.
"Please release Ethan Rivers."
Stephen froze. He respected the elderly couple, and as long as they did not make any overly demanding requests, he would help
them. He might even turn a blind eye to Charles' mistake. Yet, there they
were, requesting Ethan's release.
