Maybe it was that one time.
Owen spoke softly, I’ve already scheduled the surgery?
Hailey looked at him, her voice trembling. “What surgery?”
Owen paused, his voice hoarse as he replied, “The abortion and the sterilization surgery?
Hailey clutched at his shirt, her emotions crashing as she began to sob uncontrollably. “Owen, this is my first child
Owen held her tightly in his arms, whispering. “Hailey. I’m sorry?
They both knew how hollow those words were, but in that moment, there was nothing else to say.
They couldn’t have children.
That was a reality they had both accepted when they first decided to be together.
This child was an unexpected arrival, one neither of them had planned for.
After a while, her emotions calmed, and Hailey took a deep breath, her eyes red and swollen. “When is the surgery?
“Next week, Owen answered quietly.
“Alright, I understand,” Hailey said.
Owen looked at her, his eyes filled with so many things he couldn’t express–only guilt remained.
She had endured so much being with him, emotionally and physically.
Hailey forced a smile. “It’s fine. No one could have predicted this happening. After the surgery, everything will be okay.”

Owen felt a heavy weight in his chest, his throat tight as if something was blocking his breath. He could only murmur an
agreement.
Hailey gazed out of the window.
It was autumn–the ginkgo leaves had turned yellow, and with the autumn breeze, they danced in the wind, gently falling to the
ground.
“Owen,” Hailey’s voice was soft and distant, “What if one day, our relationship gets exposed to the public? What will we do
then?”
“I don’t care about rumors,” Owen responded coldly, his voice unwavering. “When I chose to be with you, I knew this could
happen. I’ll try to avoid it, but if it does come out, I’ll choose you, no matter what.”
He paused, then added, “Hailey, I’m loyal, and I hold on to the past. I’m already twenty–nine. I’ve waited for you for so long, and I

don’t think I’ll ever be able to let anyone else into my heart for the rest of my life.”
He was determined to keep her.
“If the public finds out about us, do you realize what it could cost?” she asked, turning to face him. “The Calhoun Group,

which you built, could be ruined. It would be a huge scandal
“I don’t care,” he said, his black eyes fixed on her. “Hailey, are you regretting this?”
“I don’t regret it, but Owen... I’m afraid I won’t be able to handle it, Hailey’s eyes filled with tears.
They both knew how difficult this road was, and they understood the uncertainty of whether they could overcome everything and
make it to the end.
“It’s Okay,” Owen raised his hand, gently comforting her. “I won’t blame you. Just being with me is enough. As long as we’re in
sync, nothing else matters.”

In that cold night, Hailey felt like she was drowning in Owen’s tenderness.
Outside the room, a shadowy, thin figure quietly collected a voice recorder and left.
The man, wearing a cap and dressed in unremarkable clothes, was trying to stay as inconspicuous as possible.
He walked to the stairwell and made a call.
“I might have uncovered some secrets, but you’ll need to investigate what they are. I’ll send the recording to you
In an apartment building, a glamorous woman opened the audio file.
The deep voice of Owen and Hailey’s soft, gentle one filled the room.
Selena’s eyes gleamed with a sharp, calculating glint.
It seemed there was some kind of hidden relationship between Hailey and Owen.
What kind of relationship could it be? And once it was exposed, would it ruin them both?
The phone buzzed in her palm.
It was her agent, Ivanna Bartlett, calling.
“Ivanna,” she answered.
“I’ve got you a role. The script will be sent to you shortly. Read it over, and I’ll take you to meet the director tomorrow afternoon,”
Ivanna’s voice came through the phone, decisive and businesslike.
Selena’s tone softened, her voice dripping with charm. “Thank you, Ivanna. I’ll do my best.”
Ivanna hung up without another word.
At ABC Entertainment, Ivanna, dressed in a striped suit and black high heels, walked confidently into the elevator, radiating
authority.

She headed straight to the CEO’s office, slamming the contract down on his desk. “I’ve secured the second lead for Thrilling
Suspense. But are you really sure you want her for that role?”

The man sitting in the chair looked up, his handsome face breaking into a subtle smile. He appe

forward?”
Ivanna nodded slightly, saying nothing more.

Monday arrived with clear skies.

It was supposed to be the day for Hailey’s surgery, but unfortunately, her condition had deteriorated so much in the past few days
that the doctor advised against the abortion.
So the surgery had to be postponed.
Owen, after finishing his work, would come to the hospital to keep her company, telling her funny stories.
Lately, he talked a lot about Thrilling Suspense.
It was a project that had been supposed to start filming years ago, but Hailey’s sudden accident delayed everything. Owen
thought she had wanted to see her work come to life firsthand, so he waited for the right moment.
“The director is Jose Watson. He’s very well–known in the industry. The female lead is still Trix, but the male lead is still being
decided. We’re finalizing the rest of the cast too,” Owen said, showing her the list of confirmed cast members on his phone.
When Hailey saw the name of the second female lead, she furrowed her brow. “Who is she...?”
Owen glanced at the screen. “That’s the one Jose decided on. She’s a newcomer recommended by our partners. We couldn’t
turn her down. Her acting has been reviewed, and the director said she’s good.”

Since this was Hailey’s project, Owen had paid extra attention to the details.
Hailey nodded. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the name “Yasmin Pearson” seemed oddly familiar, though her features were
strange to her.
“You think she’s an issue?” Owen asked.
Hailey shook her head. “No, just feels a little familiar. Maybe I’ve met her before.”
“Not long now until the Thrilling Suspense shoot begins. The first scene is set in a hospital, so you’ll be able to see it soon
enough. The production team chose the hospital you’re in, since they’re already building a new ward. It’ll be perfect for the
scene.”
