Chapter 22
As they spoke, she was about to unbuckle her seatbelt and get out of the car.
Charles' large hand pressed down on hers, simultaneously closing the car door that had been opened. He stared at her with a
chilling gaze. "If you're so eager to apologize, then we're gonna do it properly."
Charles settled back into his seat and buckled up. He made a U-turn and headed towards Central Hospital.
...
Evelyn followed Charles to the hospital's finest ward.
As they reached the door, it swung open from the inside. A doctor emerged from within.
Evelyn recognized him as one of the country's leading neurologists.
Evelyn stood behind Charles, her gaze icy cold.
Charlie was Charles' daughter, but she was gravely ill and confined to a standard ward. Dahlia had only suffered a scalding from
hot coffee, yet Charles, not satisfied with the treatment at a smaller hospital, had her transferred here, arranging for her to stay in
the best ward and even securing the top neurologist for her.
The difference in treatment for those dear to Charles' heart was stark.
"Hmm." Charles responded indifferently.
The doctor left.
Charles pushed the door open and entered.
Inside the ward, Sena immediately started defending Dahlia upon seeing Charles, "Charles, where have you been? How could
you leave Dahlia alone in the hospital!"
Sena was Charles' cousin. She had lived with her aunt in the Jenkins family home from a young age, adopting the Jenkins
surname. She was also Dahlia's close friend.
As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Evelyn following behind.
Her eyes lit up. She glared at Evelyn with gleeful malice, then turned to Dahlia in bed. "Dahlia, my brother brought the main
culprit here to apologize to you. I knew it. He cares so much for you. Evelyn dared to hurt you, and he certainly wouldn't let her
off!" Dahlia immediately turned to Charles disapprovingly. "Charles, you didn't really bring Evelyn here just for my sake, did
you?!"
Charles didn't respond; his gaze shifted to Evelyn, murky and unfathomable. She was being stubbornly defiant and did not look
at him.
Evelyn finally reacted. She looked at Charles, her voice cold. "If I apologize, can I leave?"
Charles looked into Evelyn's eyes, his own swirling with an intense current.
He remained silent, and Evelyn took it as his consent. She stepped back, scoffing at Dahlia. "I'm sorry."
The three emotionless words carried no hint of regret.
"Evelyn, it's okay. I know you were just impulsive at that moment..."
Evelyn cut Dahlia off. "Dahlia, you know very well how your hand got injured. I wonder how long you can keep up this act."
Then, she didn't look at anyone else in the room and turned to leave.
"Evelyn, what kind of attitude is that!" Sena grabbed Evelyn's arm, her tone sharp.
Sena was furious. Was this an apology? Evelyn was clearly here to make things worse for Dahlia!
"It's the attitude you deserve!" Evelyn unapologetically shook off Sena.
Since Evelyn was brought into the Jenkins family at the age of eight, Sena had always been hostile towards her. She had not
spared any opportunity to bully her.
Sena was provoked by those words. She was enraged and grabbed Evelyn again.
"Evelyn, everyone knows your sordid motives. You think you can successfully sabotage Dahlia's contest hopes by injuring her
hand? Were you hoping to prevent her from participating in the jewelry design contest?
"Let me tell you, my brother has already sponsored the contest. With just one call from him, Dahlia can participate.
"Dahlia will definitely win first place, gain Charles' father's approval, and marry into the Jenkins family. As for you and the little
bitch you gave birth to, you'll never set foot in the Jenkins family's door..." "Slap!"
Evelyn raised her hand, delivering a fierce slap across Sena's face.
