Why would he be so surprised to show up at his own place?
Craig snapped out of his brief daze, strode over with those long legs of his, and — like it was the most natural thing in the world-bent down to scoop their son into his arms.
"I... I just missed Elijah," he said quietly.
"If you missed Elijah, you could've just called me. There's no need to show up here unannounced," Aurora replied, her voice cooling. "We're divorced, Craig. We both have our own lives now. You barging in like this really isn't convenient for anyone."
Since the divorce, Aurora had always stuck to her rules.
Once you split, you make things clear. No blurry lines, no confusion.
Sure, she was single now and had no plans to date anytime soon, so technically it didn't matter to her. But Craig wasn't single. She had zero interest in getting tangled up in her ex-husband's love life, and she definitely didn't want to make guest appearances in whatever drama he had going on.
Just because she didn't have a boyfriend now didn't mean she'd be single forever. So, she figured it was better for everyone if they kept their boundaries from the start.
"Aurora, we're divorced, yeah. But it's not like we're enemies," Craig protested.
"We're not friends, either," she shot back.
He fell silent.
"So, do you need something? If not, I'm taking Elijah over to my mom's for dinner."
That was about as close to a "please leave" as you could get.
Craig pressed his lips together. Even after all these years after being married, after knowing each other forever-he still couldn't verbally outmaneuver Aurora.
Aurora gently picked Elijah up again and turned to head out.
But after a few steps, she paused, glancing back at Craig over her shoulder. "Strictly speaking, this isn't really my business anymore. Still, think it's better to be upfront now than deal with awkward surprises later. So, let me make this clear."
Craig met her eyes. "Okay. Go ahead."
"You know why we got divorced, right?"
He didn't answer.
"You never understood boundaries with other women. That's why things fell apart between us. I warned you more than once, but you only ever saw things from your own point of view. You never stopped to think how it made me feel."
Craig ducked his head, a man in his thirties suddenly looking like a kid getting
scolded by his teacher.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled.
"I'm not looking for an apology,"

"You done?" Craig finally spoke, his voice even.
"That's all I have to say."
"My turn, then." He took a step closer, his voice lowering. "Aurora, I don't have a
girlfriend."
"What?" she blurted out.
"I only told people I did so the women at work would stop trying to set me up or
flirt with me. That's it."
