Chapter 13
Forcing a smile, he spoke honestly. “She wanted everything to be special after the marriage and on our first night.”
Athena was shaking her head. Many women would die for Alpha Nick, but he waited for his mate. From the way
Charlotte was distant towards him previously, it was suspicious how she was suddenly all over him now.
Athena was no fool. It was clear that something must have gone wrong back then. “So, you didn’t mark her, you didn’t
mate with her, and finally, she gets kidnapped on the day of her wedding that she alone knew all the exits and entrances
plus all the guests and planners? Have you investigated the matter?”
The more she thought about it, the greater her conviction and the more her anger increased with the whole analysis.

Some things were not adding up as they should, and she wondered why she was the only one seeing things from that
angle.
There were people whose good heart could immediately capture a person’s attention, but there were others. whose
presence brought unease. Charlotte was one of them, and yet, everyone liked her because of how well she played her
cards.
What happened to honesty? Sheila was the honest one and yet was being hated for what? Because she wasn’t Alpha
Nick’s destined mate? Athena felt sad about the whole thing and now that Sheila was gone, felt like the only person
feeling her absence.
“She said there was no need because the kidnappers died. It was the only way she could escape,” Alpha Nick
explained, trying to get Charlotte on his mother’s good side, but the woman stared at him with a faraway look. It was as
if she was not listening but had also heard everything.
When she opened her mouth, Alpha Nick felt unease bubbling in his heart due to the disappointment coating each word
Athena spoke, which was also steady in her eyes.
“Nick. I never expected the mate bond to make you stupid. You lose your head whenever it comes to Charlotte. I hope
you can keep your thinking cap on before she births you some bastard.”
Athena didn’t know if she was imagining it but suspected that Charlotte’s sudden clinginess to her son might be because she
was carrying another man’s child, but for as long as she was concerned, no bastard would be born

That would only be after her death. Alpha Nick gave up on trying to convince his mother upon seeing no way out of the situation.
Rising to his feet, he said to her, “Mom, I will go see Dustin. I have some things to do at the office.”
Athena was about to nod her head in agreement since the conversation was not going in either of their favor. Her mind
recollected something at the instance and she asked him.
“What have you decided on giving Sheila?”
A bitter smile stretched Alpha Nick’s lips. Sheila’s behavior never ceased to amaze him, and the more he thought about it the
greater his confusion.
“I wanted to give her half of everything, including the pack, but she refused them all, avoiding me like a plague.” His throat felt
dry and his mind went blank. “Yesterday, she was driving a yellow Ferrari. She drove that same car today.”
He was still upset that Sheila had refused to tell him about the source of the car as he massaged his nape, looking lost and
hoping that Athena would stop seeing Sheila the way she always did and advised,
“Instead of being overly suspicious of Charlotte, I think you should rather investigate Sheila.” He suddenly saw. the emerald
bracelet on his mother’s left wrist, which he hadn’t seen the entire day, wondering how it appeared.
From the look of it, it wasn’t just any kind of bracelet. It must be worth millions. He couldn’t stop himself from asking, “and who
gave you that emerald bracelet?”
Athena smiled proudly, lifting his wrist to her eye level. She was about to respond when Tedmond beat her to it.
“Sheila gave it to her. You are right son, that ex–wife of yours is mysterious and should be investigated. Your mother is under her
charm and even gave her the pendant Bree wanted so much,”
Alpha Nick’s gaze darkened at the revelation. He was hoping to convince his mother to give that pendant to Charlotte to prove
that she was loved by his whole family since Athena openly showed her dislike for her.
Now that she gave it to Sheila, Charlotte would be more convinced that his mother didn’t like her. Alpha Nick. was regretting
agreeing to the marriage contract, but recalling the shame that would have befallen the pack if that hadn’t happened, he felt
conflicted.

“Mom, how could you? You should have saved it for Charlotte as a gift for your daughter–in–law.” Disdain laced his tone as he
recalled hearing Tedmond question Sheila before barging into the ward.
By then, Alpha Nick was mind linking Dustin and had not seen the pendant on Sheila’s n*ck. Unknown to him, Sheila had hidden
the pendant after that confrontation with Tedmond. It was safely beneath the fabric of the
dress she wore.
Athena had no regrets and gazed annoyingly at her son. “I still insist that one day, you will regret letting Sheila go.”
At the moment, Alpha Nick was so furious because of the gift his mother gave Sheila and retorted in anger,
“That day will never come, but I plead with you to be nice to Charlotte. After all, she is going to bear your
grandchildren.”
Athena felt disgusted at the thought of having her grandchildren through a woman like Charlotte. A wry smile suddenly
decorated her lips as she probingly asked Alpha Nick,
“Have you allowed her into your bedroom?”
Alpha Nick froze as he suffered from Obsessive–compulsive personality disorder (OCPD). This condition was marked
by a consistent and extreme need for orderliness, perfectionism, and control with no room for flexibility.
In his room, all his things are arranged in a certain way and he never likes it any other way. Being alone, it was very
easy, but with a partner, he didn’t think he could endure it if things changed in his room.
However, since Charlotte was his mate, he didn’t have a choice as he wanted to mark and mate with her, as soon as the
divorce was over with. There was also the lingering hope of having an heir for the pack very
soon.
“I will make the necessary adjustments after the divorce procedures are o
over.”
Athena smiled mockingly but did not speak a word. As his mother, he knew how hard that was going to be for
Nick.
It would have been easy with Sheila, as she also loved orderliness and due to the love she had for Alpha Nick, she
wouldn’t want to offend him and would do anything to please him.
The next day, Alpha Nick woke up very early to prepare for training, Charlotte was still sleeping, so he decided to take
the lead, but what he saw upon reaching the ultra–modern gym took his breath away.
