Chapter 43 She Is Flattering Herself Again
Corynn’s harsh words were like daggers, piercing Elliot’s heart and hurting him deeply.
As he watched her walk away, he placed a heart on his chest to calm his fast–beating heart, wondering how Corynn could have
no qualms about hurting him so much.
Irritably, he took out a cigarette stick and lit it in an effort to use the haze of the smoke to distract himself from
the discomfort in his heart.
Kaden had been the one to inform him that Corynn had gone to confront some scumbag earlier. Fearing that she was going to
get hurt, Elliot followed her to monitor and ensure her safety. After confirming that she was fine, he drove directly to her home to
see how she was doing.
He had thought that she wouldn’t be around, but here she was, and the encounter was just as cold as ever.
Before long, the lights upstairs were switched on and the silhouette of Corynn appeared in the window to pull the curtains,
abruptly cutting off his view.
Elliot pursed his lips and couldn’t help but wonder how Corynn’s love for him could have possibly vanished
within just three years.
But then he thought of the man next to her, Jason, who looked at Corynn with a gentle and affectionate gaze that suggested his
feelings for her mirrored Elliot’s own.
Wait a minute, had Corynn and Jason gotten intimate with each other?
The thought of this alone caused Elliot’s leg to go weak and he almost fell over. It was like his heart had been ripped off his body.
Imagining Corynn being with another man was simply unbearable.
What was he going to do if Corynn married and had children with Jason?
Elliot unconsciously clenched his fists and swore to himself that he would never allow such a thing to happen.
But then, he sighed and admitted to himself that Corynn was no longer the same person who he kept by his side like a bird in a
cage. Any attempt to impose himself on her would only make her more defiant towards him. What’s more, from the way she
looks at him alone, one would know that the love she had for him was... gone. As he was thinking of this, a raindrop landed on
his face. Swallowing weakly, he glanced again at the faint lig seeping through the curtains, his eyes betraying the fact that he
was confused, a rare state for him to be in.
At that moment, a call came in on his phone from Owen.
When he picked it up, Owen’s angry voice came from the other end, saying, “Do you have any idea what the

time is? Have you forgotten that you are supposed to be having dinner with Amanda? She is waiting for you!” As Owen was
fuming, Elliot could hear Amanda’s voice in the background trying to calm him.
Elliot’s usual cold look appeared on his face and he replied icily, “I informed you that I wasn’t going to be available tonight.”
Day after day, he had been hounded since that call from Owen to go back, and it was starting to get on his nerves.
“Elliot! How dare you speak to me in such an undignified manner?” Owen roared from the other end, but this
had no effect on Elliot.
He simply hung up the call and drove away.
Meanwhile, inside Corynn’s room, she was also unsettled. Why on earth had Elliot come here? Was it simply to express his
concern for her?
No, that couldn’t be the case.
Clearly, judging from these frequent visits, Elliot was determined to cling to her no matter what.
Looking back at how coldly Elliot had ended things, and now seeing him trying to act all innocent and saying things that could
easily be misconstrued was quite laughable. He was nothing short of a jerk!
He kept pestering Corynn while not hiding the fact that he didn’t intend to break off the engagement he had with Amanda. Not
only was he a confused jerk, but he was also shameless!
As Corynn lay on her bed, the sound of the sudden rain outside filled her ears, causing her thoughts to drift back to that rainy
night.
As she left with the check and house deed from Elliot, she had been manhandled and dragged into a dark place, where she was
then beaten to a stupor. All these years, no matter how much she tried, she hadn’t been able to get rid of the memory of the pain
from those blows.
There was no way on earth she was ever going to forget that day.
When she was abroad, her nights were repeatedly troubled by nightmares. She always woke up feeling frightened and cornered,
unable to call for help or escape.
Having ended cleanly, their relationship was now firmly in the past. Yet, three years later, Elliot couldn’t stop pestering her.
Definitely, Elliot saw her as a tool that he could pick up to use at any time and discard at will.
Pursing her lips, Corynn got up from the bed, walked to the window, and quietly pulled the curtain aside a
little.
Looking down, she saw that there was no trace of Elliot.

She scoffed and chuckled bitterly at herself. Why did she think that he would still be waiting for her?
Surely, she was flattering herself to have thought for a moment that he wasn’t gone.
