At that moment, a silver needle shot toward Sterling. It pierced directly into the back of his hand.

The large knife that had been pressed against Vivian's neck instantly clattered to the ground.

Sterling let out a shrill cry of pain.

Manfred strode forward, his gaze fixed entirely on Vivian, scanning her for any injuries. If anyone had looked at his hand just then, they would have seen the veins bulging as he gripped his sword tightly.

"I'm fine!" Vivian hurriedly reassured him. She tried to stand, but her body felt completely drained of strength.

This wasn't the same as being drugged.

It felt like... she was leaving. A surge of panic immediately gripped her.

"Aren't you just a useless fool? You actually know martial arts!" Sterling was shocked, his face twisting with fury as he glared at Manfred.

He had been utterly deceived!

For years, he had believed Manfred to be nothing more than an incompetent weakling, someone he had completely under his control. He had been so close to getting everything he wanted!

Manfred had already reached Vivian's side by then. He wrapped an arm around her, supporting her as she struggled to stand.

Her face was deathly pale, and her eyes shimmered with tears. The moment she got to her feet, she clung tightly to Manfred.

Why now? Why was it happening now?

She had never expected it to come so suddenly. She wasn't ready to leave.

She hadn't even figured out whether she could take Manfred with her. She hadn't spent enough time with him in this world. There were still so many things they hadn't done together.

Seeing the tears welling in her eyes, Manfred thought she was afraid. His voice softened. "Don't be scared. He won't be able to hurt you anymore."

"Not necessarily! Today, I won't just kill her—I'll kill you too! Hahaha! You'll both die! In the end, I will be the one who wins! Manfred, go to hell!"

Sterling grabbed the knife with his uninjured hand and charged at them. It gleamed with a cold, murderous light.

Just as it was about to strike, an arrow flew in from the entrance and pierced straight into Sterling's chest.

His eyes widened in shock as he lowered his head, staring in disbelief at the arrow embedded in his body.

"How... How could this..."

Manfred remained expressionless. "Did you really think I came alone?"

Sterling froze then suddenly burst into crazed laughter.

"Haha! Manfred, you're ruthless! But have you considered this? The Livingston family has also been lying in wait! stepped into this trap willingly-because I planned to drag you to hell with me! The Livingston family will never let you leave here alive!"

The Livingston family was the third most powerful family in Everholm, but they had always been dissatisfied with their ranking.

Now, with this opportunity handed to them, they would undoubtedly take the chance to eliminate Manfred.

"The Livingston family?" Manfred's

voice was calm and unwavering. "Their head of the family just died at

my hands. From now on, there are no longer three great families in Everholm." Sterling's expression froze in shock. His laughter cut off abruptly.

A moment later, his lifeless body collapsed to the ground, his eyes still wide open in disbelief.

Manfred cast a cold glance at the fallen Sterling before turning his attention back to Vivian.

Tears had already spilled from her eyes. Her face was growing even paler.
