Chapter 1918
I always thought adults were just a bit dull, forever spinning tales of their youthful glory days. They often mentioned this enigmatic group called The
Silent Shadows, and I imagined they were pretty intimidating. But after meeting Isaac, it turned out The Silent Shadows weren’t all they were cracked
up to be.
Out of the blue, Alec noticed that a bunch of people around us were giving us the once-over. Some were engrossed in newspapers on the street,
others were casually sipping coffee in a café, and a few were just passersby chatting away. Their behavior was odd, yet every single one of them had
their eyes glued to us with an intense stare.
“Run!” Alec yelled, grabbing my hand and taking off at a sprint before I could even process what was happening. Those everyday people dropped
whatever they were doing and started chasing us.
“Why are they after us?” I asked, gasping for air.
“Well, what do you think? Hanging around S Corporation’s HQ like that was bound to get us noticed!”
“Hanging around? We were just standing there for a second!”
I hadn’t realized that during this time, S Corporation was so jumpy, ready to react at the slightest hint of trouble.
“Stop!” One guy blocked our way. He was wearing the unmistakable uniform of the Costello family’s security team, looking to be about thirty. I knew
that uniform all too well—it was from my dad’s side of the family. But right now, they didn’t recognize us. Alec gave me a look, signaling it was time to
make a move.
If we didn’t act, we’d definitely be in a bind. In a heartbeat, Alec and I launched into action, fighting back hard. We were used to sparring with our
family, but this was tougher than usual. These guards were clearly well-trained, unlike any I’d seen before. Could they be part of some secret squad
my dad kept under wraps?
“Don’t know, best we take them back first.”
The Costello family guards quickly ushered us into S Corporation. We didn’t put up a fight, and the guards were surprisingly gentle.
When Tricia saw us, she raised an eyebrow. “What are these two kids doing here?”
“Don’t let their looks fool you. They fight like pros,” one guard said. “They’ve got to be from The Silent Shadows—how else could they be so skilled?”
“We’re not from The Silent Shadows! We need to see Ms. Sophie.”
“Ms. Sophie? Do you think just anyone can meet her?”
“Fine, then. I want to see Colby. Surely, we can meet Colby?”
