Chapter 152
Carlos's eyes swept down from her face, fixing on a spot further down.
Mikayla followed his gaze to her V-neck office attire. It wasn't see-through, but Carlos's stare was so blatant that it felt like he was undressing her with
his eyes.
"Carlos, you..." Mikayla clenched her jaw, her ears flushing red as she recalled last night when Carlos's hands hadn't been behaving.
"Mika, I didn't imply anything. Let's eat. It's getting late," Carlos said with a nonchalant shrug as he scooped up his oatmeal.
Mikayla noticed the time after Carlos's prompt, and indeed, it was almost time to go.
After finishing breakfast, Carlos drove Mikayla to her office.
During the ride, Mikayla sat in the passenger seat.
"Hey, what happened to Josiah?" she asked. She hadn't seen him since their wedding, and it seemed like he had vanished.
"He's between jobs at the moment! He'll resume work after I'm gone," Carlos mentioned as if it was no big deal.
"Is that even possible?" Mikayla questioned.
It seemed like Carlos could make Josiah come or not come to work with just a word.
"You'll understand the reasons later as you're so smart!" Carlos said with a knowing smile.
Carlos parked the car at the Salvatore Group's main entrance.
"There you go again, being all cryptic!" Mikayla said to Carlos, unbuckling her seat belt, stepping out of the car, and adding as she closed the door,
"Oh, and you don't need to bring lunch. I'll probably be swamped."
"Got it! Wrap up early, and I'll pick you up after work to head to Lorenzo's," Carlos replied before driving away.
Mikayla was left standing there, feeling a mix of emotions.
Truth be told, she had expected days like this since their marriage. It was just a tough emotional barrier to overcome. There were moments of deep
connection when she felt it physically. She was keenly aware of his desire.
Yet, Carlos always restrained himself, mindful of her still-healing foot, never pushing for more.
Lately, she realized she had been somewhat inattentive to his feelings.
The unexpected tap gave Mikayla a little jump.
"Yep!" Mikayla turned, walking alongside Patricia into the Salvatore Group's office building.
"Ms. Salvatore, may I ask where you guys went for your honeymoon?" Patricia was super curious. Ever since Mikayla's wedding, they'd been
guessing she must've gone someplace fancy and romantic for her honeymoon.
Mikayla's world-class, luxurious wedding four days ago was something way out of their league.
Mikayla swiped her card and entered the company, looking at the bubbly Patricia and offering a smile. "We didn't go anywhere, so no need to be
jealous."
"What? How could you not have gone anywhere?" Patricia hit the elevator call button.
"Not a big deal," Mikayla said as she stepped into the elevator.
It was the height of the morning rush, and the elevator filled up with workers. Upon spotting Mikayla, they all greeted her respectfully. "Morning, Ms.
Salvatore!"
Mikayla gave a slight nod.
As the elevator stopped at different floors, people got off until it reached the 17th floor, the marketing department. Mikayla and Patricia stepped off
and made their way to their department.
"Ms. Salvatore's back at work!" the team exclaimed, excited to see her.
"Yep, get back to what you were doing. We'll have a department meeting this afternoon," Mikayla instructed before opening the door to her office.
"Thanks!" Mikayla said to Quinnlyn, sitting down at her desk.
"Just set it there!" Mikayla said, booting up her computer.
"Alright! I'll leave you to it," Quinnlyn said, exiting the office.
Mikayla tackled her backlog first, sorting and dealing with each task based on urgency. After finishing up new paperwork, Mikayla looked up, rubbing
her sore neck.
Just as Juliet had mentioned, Lauren had picked up some bad habits and was often seen with wealthy individuals, acting intimately.
No news about her had come out yet. Someone with clout or status in the entertainment circle was probably covering for her, especially while she
was at the height of her popularity.
her protectors and the paparazzi exposed it.
Mikayla strode to her desk, lifted the intercom phone, and made a call. "Quinnlyn, come to my office."
"Sure thing!" Quinnlyn hung up, and in no time, she was knocking on the door.
"Come in!" Mikayla had already settled back into her seat.
"What can I do for you, Ms. Salvatore?" Quinnlyn asked, stepping inside.

"Did you buy out the rights to that piece of news from the private investigator?" Mikayla questioned.
"Ms. Salvatore, don't worry. Since you were on your honeymoon, I took it upon myself to secure the rights to the news. The negatives of the photos
are attached at the end," Quinnlyn said.
Mikayla flipped to the back and indeed found the original photo negatives. She commended Quinnlyn. "You did the right thing. You're dismissed."
If they hadn't bought the rights, with Lauren being a big star, that news would definitely have been sold again, and it would have been in high
demand.
Once Quinnlyn exited, Mikayla frowned, drumming her fingers on the desk.
It seemed she had made a big decision. With the file in hand, she stood up, left her department, boarded the elevator, and headed to the floor where
Jorge was.
The secretary outside Jorge's office stepped forward. "Ms. Salvatore, Jorge is in a discussion with the product manager at the moment."
"I'll wait outside then," Mikayla said, retreating to the nearby lounge area.
After waiting for five minutes with no one emerging, Mikayla approached the secretary's desk. "When Jorge is done, give me a ring, okay?"
"Absolutely!" the female secretary agreed with a professional smile.
Just waiting around wasn't an option for her. Time was a luxury she couldn't spare.
She decided to return to her department, where she could utilize the time to catch up on other tasks.
When she received a call from Jorge's secretary, it was already an hour later.
Upon arriving at Jorge's office, the secretary enthusiastically opened the office door for her.
"Mika, you were looking for me?" Jorge was seated on a leather sofa, waiting for Mikayla.
"Yes, I have some documents here that require your attention," Mikayla admitted, handing over the file.
