Chapter 3
The comer turned out to be Channing Darnell! He was wearing a neat suit and a pair of leather shoes, yet the inexplicable treacherous look on his
face could not be concealed. Adelaide had not seen that face for four years, and she felt disgusted seeing it again.
Yet her heart started to leap and she wondered why he was here. She then raised her head and looked towards Clarissa. Seeing her complacent
look, she finally understood. It was her who brought Channing here. Was Clarissa, her dear sister from another mother who shared the same father
with her thinking that setting traps for her was not enough, and she wanted to doom her to death?
“Adelaide Swift, you kept on saying you have nothing to do with Channing Darnell, but now he’s coming to beg me to let you go so you two can be
together, what can you say for yourself?” Antonio bawled.
Adelaide was flooded with anxiety. Antonio could still let her off with only Clarissa’s words, now that Channing had been here and if he wanted to say
something that was disadvantageous to her, she would be doomed! Her mind raced. “After four years of not meeting each other, Mr. Darnell seems to
wanted to trick him. She could not bear to just wait for her doom without doing anything!
Yet Channing quickly responded. He smiled flatteringly and said, “Are you still mad at me? Adelaide. I really have something to do back in Canada,
but now I’m here to fetch you.” Anger sparked inside Adelaide. He had colluded with Clarissa as expected! She wrinkled her eyebrows. Seeing
Channing’s detestable look, she could only forcibly suppress the disgust she felt and pretended to speak gently.
“I want to go with you too, yet I’m Mr. Baron’s woman. If I go with you just like that, Mr. Baron would lose his face.” She turned and looked towards
Antonio. “Antonio, it’s my fault regarding this, and I have to pay the price. So why don’t you break one of Mr. Darnell’s hands?” She had made her
stance clear. If she did hook up with Channing, why would she put the person she loved in danger? She turned towards Channel and smiled, yet the
smile made the man shivered.
Antonio was obviously surprised that she would say that, even Clarissa was taken aback. Fear was all over Channing’s face, and he trembled while
staring at Antonio’s gloomy look with a slightly pale face. Adelaide ignored him and once again turned towards Antonio. She frowned. That was her
last gamble---she was gambling whether Antonio would believe her or not. God knows she only pretended to be calm and she was already filled with
apprehension. Clarissa’s move was cruel enough. If she had said something wrong, she would be doomed forever.
Meanwhile, Antonio was watching Adelaide like watching fun and an intrigued look suddenly appeared on his face. He suddenly felt that Adelaide’s
eyes had changed, from naïve to deep, even he could no longer read them. “Since my dear wife has said so, I can’t possibly decline, right?” He
smiled like a cunning fox and locked his eyes on Channing. Channing was backing up in fear yet a bunch of strong bodyguards had blocked his way
behind him. He could not escape and he could only bite the bullet and listen to the rest of his words.
Antonio then said with an icy look, “Break one of his legs.” Having heard his words, two bodyguards immediately grabbed Channing while another
approached him with a mace one step at a time. Channing would never have conceived that and he panicked. “What are you doing? This is illegal!”
He then struggled hard and there was intense horror in his eyes.
“Illegal? Is it?” Antonio shoved his hands into his pockets and slowly took some steps forward. He looked at Channing and said, “Is money more
powerful or law? I believe Mr. Darnell knows more about that than me?” Channing could only shiver without being able to speak a word. Money is
invincible and he knew that better than anyone. His face became cadaverous as he knew how great the power of the Baron family was. Not to
mention breaking his leg, it was not impossible to take his life without notice.
With a moment of thought, he grabbed the leg of Antonio’s pants and said, “Mr. Baron, please let me off. I have nothing to do with Adelaide, I only do
it because of someone’s order!”
“Order?” Antonio’s eyes turned gloomy and without even letting him speak once more, Clarissa suddenly shrilled in pain, covered her tummy and
squatted down. Her face turned pale and she placed one of her hands on the tea table while trembling in agony.
