Zane just smiled, not saying a word. At that moment, Edward and the others walked up.
Jocelyn spoke up, her voice cheerful. “Alright, I’ll take it from here. You all need to come by for a visit next time you have some
free time.”
She then turned to Elysia, her face lighting up with a bright smile. “Elysia, don’t forget to come see me soon
“Okay, Jocelyn,” Elysia replied, returning the smile.
Once Elysia agreed, Jocelyn finally let go of Quinita’s hand. Her smile grew even wider, and after a few more quick words,
Edward and the others got into the car.
It wasn’t until their car was out of sight that Felix wrapped his arm around Jocelyn’s shoulder, and they began walking back.
“Elysia’s one of those kids everyone just loves. If she weren’t so young. I’d be heading over to the Evans residence to ask if she
could marry Zane,” Jocelyn said. Her smile was wide, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
Then, as if something had occurred to her, she turned to Zane, her smile fading slightly. “Let me make one thing clear. If you ever
hurt Elysia, I won’t let you get away with it.”
Zane raised an eyebrow, his lips curling into a smirk. “Elysia hasn’t even stepped into the house yet, and you’re already ready to
disown your own son?”
Jocelyn rolled her eyes. “I’m not disowning you,” she said firmly. “I’m not that stupid. Even if I did, I’d wait until Elysia’s in the
house first. After all, how else would I find a son to marry her?”
Zane couldn’t help but think to himself, ‘So, my purpose in life is just to marry Elysia?‘
Jocelyn, completely unaware of the thought running through his mind, continued. “Zane, did you hear me? Don’t mess with
Elysia, or else—”
“Or else, you won’t let me off the hook.” Zane finished saying that for her.
Jocelyn stopped talking, giving him a look of clear disdain. “Good. Now, let’s go,” she said, picking up her pace.
Zane followed slowly behind her, his mind racing. He’d always been the one getting ignored–whether it was by his grandpa or his
parents.
But as he thought about how much they spoiled Elysia, he figured it didn’t really matter.
‘Well, it’s just being ignored. As long as Elysia’s well treated, that’s all that matters, he thought to himself.
Elysia looked exhausted. She had been resting her head on Quinita’s shoulder the whole way, her eyes barely open. Only when
the car came to a stop in front of the Evans residence did she blink her eyes open.
“Why don’t you get some more sleep? I was thinking I could have your brothers carry you inside,” Quinita said, her voice full of
concern.
now, and I’m not tired anymore. No need for my brothers to carry me.”
The teasing smile on Elysia’s face made Quinita’s heart melt. She smiled back and gently tapped her forehead. “You” the
sweetest girl.”
Elysia stretched as she stepped out of the car. “Mom, Dad, guys, I’m heading to my room.”

She waved at them quickly before making her way toward the stairs.
Edward and Quinita didn’t think much of it. They just figured Elysia was tired and smiled as they watched her head upstairs.
But Fabian and Javier exchanged a quick look. Something didn’t feel right. They could sense it–Elysia wasn’t acting like
herself.
They both began to think back to when it all started.
Maybe it was when Elysia went out with Lindsey. Ever since then, her mood had been off.
They couldn’t help but wonder if Lindsey had said something that upset her.
Trying to keep their curiosity in check, they both frowned, but neither of them followed Elysia upstairs. Instead, they sat down on
the couch, deep in thought.
If Elysia was going through something, she wasn’t going to talk about it now.
They believed she needed time to sort it out on her own.
After Elysia made her way up to the second floor, she didn’t go to her room. Instead, she headed toward the bedroom at the far
end of the hall.
This had been Evelyn’s room when she was alive.
Elysia’s slender fingers gripped the doorknob. She hesitated for a moment before pressing it down firmly and pushing the door
open. The room looked exactly as it had the last time she was here.
Everything felt so familiar, yet somehow distant.
She crouched down next to the bookshelf, her fingers lightly brushing over the neatly arranged books. These were all books
Evelyn had read in her lifetime.
Each time her finger skimmed over a spine, her heart skipped a beat as if Evelyn’s presence was still hanging in the air.
Standing up, she moved deeper into the room. Her eyes landed on the large bed in the center of the room. The sheets were a
crisp, pure white–so clean, not a speck of dust in sight.
She traced her fingers lightly over the duvet, feeling the cold fabric beneath her fingertips.
This was the bed where Evelyn had passed away. Her brothers had told her that, when she left, she had been smiling, almost

Taking off her shoes, Elysia curled up on the bed, letting her body sink into the softness of the sheets. Her eyes fluttered shut,
and two tears slid down her face, soaking into the pillow beneath her.
‘Evelyn, why didn’t you wait just a little longer? What if I could’ve saved you?‘ she thought.

A wave of anxiety swept over them. Thinking something might have happened to her, they pushed the door open. They

searched the room, but Elysia was nowhere to be found.
The worry in their chests only grew heavier. They had assumed she was in her room, but now, they had no idea where she
could be.
Then it hit them. They exchanged a quick look, and without saying a word, they both knew what the other was thinking. They
turned on their heels and made their way to Evelyn’s old room.
When they reached the door and saw it slightly ajar, they slowed their pace, feeling a sense of relief wash over them.
Through the crack in the door, they stood quietly, watching Elysia curled up on the bed. A tightness gripped their hearts, and their
eyes started to well up.
They didn’t speak. They just stood there, silently taking in the sight.
After what felt like an eternity, Fabian gently pulled the door closed. His movements were soft and careful, as though he didn’t
want to disturb her.
He made his way to the balcony with slow, heavy steps. Fabian pulled out a cigarette and was about to light it when Javier
stopped him.
“If Evelyn were here, she’d probably scold you again for doing that,” Javier said.
Fabian paused and then put the cigarette back in his pocket with a frown. “Elysia’s missing Evelyn,” he said quietly.
Javier’s face hardened. “It’s a damn tragedy. Evelyn never got the chance to see Elysia before she passed. I can only wonder
how she’s doing up there.”
Fabian didn’t answer. Their figures, tall and broad, seemed to fade into the night, their presence casting a heavy, somber aura
that made the air feel thick with sadness.
