Edward watched his daughter cook. The way she moved so smoothly and confidently that he felt a sharp ache in his chest.
Quinita’s eyes filled with tears as she quietly stood by,
She couldn’t help but wonder if she always had to be the one to be so good at this.
Elysia had already finished frying the eggs. She looked at the slightly burnt toast and almost decided to re–toast one. But as her
fingers touched the bread, she hesitated.
It was made by her mom.
A soft smile tugged at the corners of her lips. Honestly, it wasn’t that burnt after all.
She carefully placed the toast on a plate and then set the fried egg on top. Heading to the sink, she grabbed the vegetables
Edward had already washed.
She sliced the tomatoes and added lettuce, some mayo, and a bit of shredded meat. After closing the sandwich, she popped it
into the sandwich press. Three minutes later, she took it out, sliced it in half, and arranged it neatly on the plate.
As she turned around, she noticed Edward and Quinita staring at her with such warmth and affection.
A flicker of hesitation crossed her face. She raised her hand and waved it in front of them, but neither of them responded. Finally,
she spoke up. “Mom, Dad, you guys...”
Their eyes snapped back to her voice, pulling them out of their daze. Their gazes shifted to the sandwiches, and their hearts
ached even more.
Just then, Holden walked in, following the delicious smell. As soon as he saw the sandwiches, he picked up his pace.
“I knew I smelled eggs! Who made these sandwiches?” he asked, a grin spreading across his face.
He glanced at Edward and Quinita before his eyes landed on Elysia. “It was you, right?” he asked with a bright smile.
Edward raised an eyebrow. “How do you know it was Elysia?”
Holden shrugged, smiling. “Come on. Don’t I know my mom’s cooking?”
As soon as he said that, the mood in the room shifted.
Holden noticed Quinita’s expression change, and his smile faltered. He quickly added, “I just meant... Mom doesn’t usually cook,
so I never get to try her food.”
“Well, now you get the chance,” Elysia said, smiling softly. “The toast was made by Mom. Actually, this sandwich was a team
effort–both Mom and I made it.”
“Oh, you guys are here,” Javier said with a grin. “Oh, sandwiches. Did Elysia make them?”
When Elysia nodded, Javier’s grin grew even wider. “Well, guess I have to try it then.”
He started to take a step forward, but just as his foot moved, Fabian stepped in front of him, asking, “Did you wash your hands?”
Javier gave him a look. ‘Seriously? Does he think I don’t know when to wash my hands before eating? What kind of question is
that?‘ he thought.

“Fabian, not only did I wash my hands, but I also washed my face, Want to check? He leaned his face toward Fabian, te him.
“You’re not a kid anymore. Stop acting like one,” Fabian said, rolling his eyes.
Javier blinked, thinking, I’m acting like a kid?‘
He frowned at Fabian, wondering, ‘Aren’t you doing the same?
Meanwhile, Yehoshua hadn’t said a word. He stood perfectly still, his eyes locked on the sandwiches on the table. “If Elysia
made them, I’m definitely going to try it.”
“Mom and I made them together,” Elysia said, glancing over at her brothers.
The three of them immediately turned to Quinita, double–checking to make sure they heard right. Elysia had said they had made
it together.
Their mom actually cooked.
That was definitely unexpected.
Seeing their surprised expressions, Holden quickly added, “Mom toasted the bread”
The group looked down at the crispy outer layer of the sandwich. It actually looked like something their mom would make
As Quinita noticed the slight tension in their faces, her expression darkened a bit. But she kept her voice soft and calm as
always. “What’s that supposed to mean? You don’t like what I made?”
The brothers cleared their throats, unsure how to respond.
They exchanged nervous glances, and finally, Fabian spoke up. “Back home, you hardly ever cooked. It was rare to get a
homemade breakfast. So, this time, we’re really lucky Elysia could help.”
“Yeah, Fabian’s right,” Holden said. “It’s a real honor to get a breakfast you made. We’re really happy. Who would complain? He
glanced at Javier, his eyes pleading for backup.
Javier coughed lightly and said, “Fabian and Holden are right. We’re truly honored.”
At that, Quinita’s expression softened just a bit. She placed the plate on the table, and they all picked up a sandwich, cautiously
“Not bad, actually. Even the burnt toast has a nice crunch,” Holden said.
Edward shot him a side–eye, thinking. Of course, he always knew how to rub it in.”
Realizing his slip–up, Holden quickly shut his mouth and then switched gears. “What I meant is Mom’s cooking is great.”
His voice dropped as if he didn’t really believe what he was saying.
The dining room fell silent. Holden froze, his mind racing to fix the awkward vibe.
After clearing his throat, Holden piped up. “Back when we were at Silverstream, we had some of Elysia’s cooking. It was
incredible. Elysia could make this one fish dish in so many different ways. Honestly, she’s better than any five–star chef I’ve ever
had.”
Edward raised an eyebrow, his voice skeptical. “You’ve actually eaten food cooked by Elysia?”
“Of course! We arrived at Silverstream the day before you did. Remember?” Holden rep! his voice casual.

The room fell silent at once again.
Holden’s words instantly brought everyone’s thoughts back to the day Edward first showed up at Silverstream. It was true- they
had arrived the day before Edward, but he hadn’t even entered the village yet.
Edward’s face hardened. “Just finish your meal,” he said, his tone was sharp.
Holden quickly closed his mouth. Normally, he was slow to pick up on things, but he could read the room now. Something was
off, and his gut told him this wasn’t going to end well. He just didn’t understand what he had done wrong.
After breakfast, Quinita started to get up to clean the dishes, but Edward stopped her with a concerned look. “You’ve already
worked hard making breakfast. Let the four brothers handle the cleanup.”
The four Evans brothers exchanged confused looks. They knew their mom had just made toast.
When he noticed their confused stares, Edward’s smile faded. “What are you all standing around for? Grab the plates. Clean up
the kitchen, and no dishwasher. You’ll wash them by hand.”
The four Evans brothers glanced at each other, suspicion written on their faces. They thought their dad was doing this just to get
back at them.
The other three all turned to Holden, their annoyance growing. If he hadn’t mentioned that, none of this would have happened.
Holden still didn’t understand what was going on, but the way everyone was looking at him wasn’t exactly friendly.
“You guys, I-” he started to say, trying to explain, but the words just didn’t come out.
The others rolled their eyes and turned back to the task at hand, grabbing plates and heading for the kitchen.
Holden scratched his head. He still couldn’t figure out why everyone was so upset with him. He followed them into the kitchen,
and when he entered, Yehoshua handed him a dish towel, glancing over at the sink before raising his chin in a silent. command.
“I’m washing?” Holden blinked, pointing at himself in disbelief.
