The girl in workout clothes was frozen in terror as the car sped toward her, showing no signs of stopping
Her heart pounded painfully in her chest, and she clutched at it, her face pale. She forced herself to her feet, shaking and
unsteady, and tried to stumble out of the way–but it felt like time was running out.
In that split second, she was sure she was done for. The car was coming right at her, and she couldn’t move fast enough. But
then, just a foot away, the car screeched to a halt.
She collapsed, her body going limp, and gasped for breath. Relief flooded through her as she realized she was still alive.
Zane was out of the car in an instant, sprinting over to Elysia. He grabbed her shoulders, his eyes scanning her frantically. When
he saw she was in one piece, the tightness in his face finally eased.
“Zane, why did you-” she began, but Alice’s voice interrupted over the comm.
“Zane just turned around out of nowhere. When I asked him why, he clammed up and just kept pushing to get back here, ASAP,
Alice explained, looking confused.
Zane looked at the girl in workout clothes on the ground. “I saw a taxi a minute ago. She was in the back, dressed weirdly, and
heading to the Arcanum House. I thought something was off, so I came to check on you”
Elysia rolled her eyes, a smirk on her face. “Zane, relax. Even if there were a dozen of her, they wouldn’t stand a chance against
me.”
Zane gave Elysia’s head a light tap, smiling softly. “I know you’re tough, but I can’t help worrying. I just don’t want you to get hurt,
even a little.
Elysia’s smile faded as she met his earnest gaze. “I’ll watch my step from now on and avoid trouble, I promise.”
Zane nodded. “Okay,”

Meanwhile, Alice finally pieced things together. She saw the girl on the ground and her anger flared. “Who on earth are you,

messing with Elysia?” She took a step forward, her expression fierce.
Elysia tried to step in, but Zane was quicker. He grabbed her arm and shook his head at Alice. “Alice, stop.”
Alice froze, thrown off by Zane’s stern tone. She turned to him, eyes wide. “I just want to know who she is and make her pay for
what she did to Elysia.”
Zane sighed, his expression softening. “You’re still young, Alice. Some fights aren’t worth getting into. Let us handle this.”
Alice was about to say something to Zane when the woman in black interrupted sharply, “Girl, you shouldn’t get involved in this.
Leave it to the adults.”
As she spoke, the woman stepped forward, took the girl in the tracksuit by the hand, and yanked off her mask and cap with the
other.
Her face was now fully exposed, and Elysia’s eyes widened. Now she understood why she’d found the woman’s voice so
familiar.
“Grace,” Elysia said, her voice cold as ice.
Alice didn’t know much about Grace, but she remembered a girl from the STEM class in Grade 12 being dragged out of school
by a rude woman who kept calling her useless and talking about marrying her off for money. She thought it might
have been Grace.

At Milton School, where most kids came from money, rumors like these didn’t spread often. So this one had made waves in their
middle school for a while.

Alice had never been into gossip, though, and only picked up bits and pieces back then–enough to know something had gone
down but not enough to remember the details. “Were you a student at Milton School?” she asked.
Grace shot Alice a hard look, her eyes flashing. She was clearly spooked by Elysia and knew she couldn’t go toe–to–toe with her
and her group. But Alice was just a young kid–casy prey.

Alice saw the defiance in Grace’s eyes and frowned. She could tell Grace was acting tough before her just because she was
younger. No way was Alice backing down from that.
She glanced at Elysia and put on a wounded look. “Elysia, she’s being rude to me,” she said, her voice trembling just a bit.
She dashed over to Elysia, clinging to her arm with big, wide eyes that looked like they could melt anyone’s heart.
Elysia gave Alice a soft smile and ruffled her hair. “Hey, don’t sweat it. I’ve got your back.”
Then Elysia turned to Grace, her tone turning icy. “Grace, should I knock out your teeth first, cut out your tongue, or just sew your
mouth shut? You don’t want to talk anyway.”
Grace’s heart pounded in her chest. She knew Elysia, but right now, she felt like she was staring at a stranger. She couldn’t
believe Elysia was saying something like that.
“If you ask me, let’s just do it all–knock out the teeth, cut the tongue, and sew up the mouth. Sounds like a plan, right?” Elysia
continued.
Grace stared at Elysia, trying to calm herself down, but her body was shaking uncontrollably. “Elysia, don’t push it,” she said, her
voice shaking. She just couldn’t shake the feeling that Elysia was dead serious.
Elysia snorted. “Push it? You think I’m pushing it? Give me a break.” She glared at Grace, her eyes cold as ice. “You were the
one who tried to kill me today. Now you got caught, and suddenly I’m the bad guy?
“If I hadn’t gotten lucky and ended up dead because of you, would you still think I’m pushing it? I’m not like you, always eager to
kill. I just want to shut you up. Is that really too much to ask?”
Alice felt a strange sense of safety around Elysia, clinging to her tighter as if she were a lifeline. She admired how fearless Elysia
was, never backing down from anyone’s threats.
Grace met Elysia’s gaze head–on. “What do you want?” she demanded.

Elysia shrugged, her tone casual but laced with danger. “Tell me who hired you, and maybe I’ll let you keep your mouth intact.”
Grace tried to sound tough. “There are plenty of people who hate you. Can’t you figure it out yourself?”
Elysia gave her a cold smile. “I’m giving you one last chance. If you don’t take it, I’m done playing nice,” she said, glancing at
Grace’s lips. “It’d be a shame if such a pretty mouth couldn’t talk anymore.”
Grace’s mind raced. She was stuck between a rock and a hard place–either she ratted out Bianca or kept quiet.
But even if she stayed silent, there was no guarantee she’d make it out alive. And if she did survive, she’d never finish Bianca’s
job, which meant the $150,000 was as good as gone.
Grace knew Elysia would find the mastermind even if she kept quiet. Tired of taking the pressure alone, she took a deep breath,
looked Elysia in the eye, and said, “I’ll tell you everything, but you have to let me go.”
