Chapter 1774
Chapter 1774: Cheeseburgers
According to Zoren, the syndicate's hive was located on a small island accessible only by boat or chopper. He had left a note for Mint to consider that location—it had always been their next destination once Atlas secured the code, even with the risk of not having it yet.
Mint had considered it too, especially given the direction of the aircraft carrying Penny.
But currently, they had made a detour. And if Angel was right, Penny would soon land on the same island they were headed toward.
Zoren and Atlas furrowed their brows until it hit them.
"The code," Atlas whispered, meeting Zoren's eyes. "They're going to claim it right away."
Zoren nodded, then turned to Angel. "Tell our pilot to hurry. We need to be there to secure their landing. Or better yet, we land on the next island before them."
"But Miss Penny-"
"She'll figure it out," Zoren cut him off quietly. "Your boss still has control over their craft. If she keeps it until the end, she'll land on the island we're headed to."
Angel studied Zoren's face before nodding in understanding. That was Zoren's wife he would know her best.
"We're going to descend soon. I'll call again in a bit, but for now, keep tracking us. I'll explain everything later. Also, I need Mint for something. I'll see you all late
Clack.
Penny ran her tongue along the inside of her cheek, slowly pulling the phone away.
"Damn it," she muttered, plugging it back into the charger and setting it aside. She slipped her headphones back on and turned her gaze toward the sky ahead.
A heavy silence settled over the cockpit. Shawn glanced at her from the corner of his eye. Despite the light tone she'd used over the call, Penny was now unnervingly quiet.
'Did she act that way just to keep everyone calm?' he wondered, eyes forward. 'Yeah... that sounds like her.'
That was the Penny he knew. Even in complicated situations-like during that cyberhack competition-she never gave anyone a reason to worry.
Still, this silence between them felt louder than the engine.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat, throwing her another glance.
Penny didn't respond, as if deep in thought. Just when Shawn assumed she'd keep her silence, she finally spoke.
"We're going to land on the island before our destination," she said, turning toward him. "We'll drop the others off for medical attention. If my husband's already there, my men can take care of them."
"But didn't you say you'd meet them at the island?"
"I did."
"Doesn't that mean-?"
"It means everyone else is headed to our original destination," she said evenly. "And if there's a mole among them, then Jonathan will know I'm safe and prepare his men for our landing."
"..." Shawn gave her a look, then turned back to the windshield. 'Just how far ahead has she been thinking?'
"If Mint was able to vet the people who joined this rescue mission, then she'll have a base set up already," Penny continued. "If not, she'd better have another plan in place in case they're ambushed. Either way, I trust Mint. She's already thought of it."
He nodded slightly in agreement. "But your husband... shouldn't you tell him all this?"
"My husband knows me," she replied, turning to the window beside her. "He'll be where we are. Cheeseburgers."
"Cheeseburger?"
Penny turned and smiled. "Ask Patricia about it. She knows I don't like cheeseburgers-just regular burgers."
"..." Once again, Shawn was rendered speechless.
So much had happened since the moment he stepped into her office, and they'd barely had time to breathe. Even Shawn hadn't fully processed the whirlwind of events. Yet here Penny was, already thinking ten steps ahead, despite supposedly being the victim.
"By the way, Shawn," Penny said, turning to face him directly. "I didn't get a chance to ask earlier, but... did you kill my people in the control room? You said you 'dealt with them.""
Shawn lowered his head slightly, glancing up at her. "I knocked them out to buy time. But they're alive."
"Thank God," she sighed in relief, patting her chest with a light chuckle. "For a second, I thought I'd have to kill you."
"
"I may not know their names, but they're my people," she said. "If you'd killed them on my turf, I wouldn't be able to forgive you."
Shawn swallowed hard, exhaling slowly.
'She doesn't know them personally, but I do,' he thought. 'They're good people...
and I feel bad for knocking them out.'

He might've befriended them for easy access to the control room, but over time, they'd become his friends. He knew some of them were fathers, just trying to support their families. Some were just sons trying to help the household, or just aspiring to be bodyguards. The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest

Time really could change people's hearts.
Shawn had been away from the organization for so long that the peace Prime
Group offered was starting to sway him more than he realized.
A shallow breath escaped him as the silence settled once again. Meanwhile,
Penny studied him from the corner of her eye.
"How long until we land?" she asked.
"About two hours, Miss Penny," he said. "If we keep this pace, we'll be there
soon."
"I see." Penny leaned back and tilted her head. "While we're at it... maybe you
should start telling me how all this happened?"

Above all... she was curious about one thing.
"You're one of the kids who escaped the orphanage, aren't you?" she asked,
watching as his eyes slid to the corner to meet hers.
Shawn let out a quiet breath and nodded.
"Yes," he said. "I'm one of those kids. The batch that escaped to avoid being
used as donors for rich families. Brad's one of us too."
He paused as he thought about it.

"All of us followed Nathaniel after
that," he continued. "And we followed every order he gave until our small
group became... an organization." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!
