Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress

Chapter 1743

Chapter 1743: Made just for her

Hugo, Mint, and Zoren lingered a little longer to discuss other matters. However, they eventually left without deciding who to approach about putting someone in charge of the Zorken Family. It wasn't something they could just postpone they had to consider it thoroughly. Perhaps even consult Charles and Haines.

Once they were gone, Penny sat behind her office desk.

Opening the drawer, she let out a shallow breath. She pressed the inside surface, hearing a soft click. Beneath the hidden compartment was the book containing the code. Right beside it was a gun.

"I said all that, but it's still a little scary to be holding something this dangerous," she muttered, picking up the gun she had kept for a while. She held it up to her face, studying it for a moment before placing it on the desk.

Just in case, Penny closed the secret compartment and kept the gun in the drawer. The only reason she had hidden it was because Yugi had asked about it. He'd voiced his concerns, after all. So, she told him she had only kept it for Mark at the time and that she'd returned it to him.

She had kept it hidden ever since.

But now, even if she was sure no one would barge into her office, it was better to be cautious.

With that, Penny carefully placed the gun back in the drawer for easier access. Holding the book, even temporarily, was still a heavy responsibility. If it landed in the wrong hands, it would be her fault-and she wasn't about to let that happen.

Once everything was secured, she reached out to the telecom.

"Come to my office now," she said as soon as she pressed the button.

After speaking, Penny leaned back and closed her eyes for a moment. Since last night, none of them had gotten proper sleep, and everything was moving faster than it should.

Suddenly, a knock came at the door.

"Penny?" Patricia peeked her head in before stepping inside, closing the door behind her. She walked toward the desk, eyes on Penny, who remained seated with her eyes closed.

She pressed her lips into a thin line, studying Penny, who looked exhausted and stressed. Well, given the current crisis, Patricia figured Penny was not in the best mood.

"Penny, about the accusations against the company..."

"Patricia." Penny opened her eyes and fixed her gaze on her. She leaned forward, looking her straight in the eye. "I need you to help Yugi and Uncle Wild move some of the documents."

"Huh?"

"In a few days, a search warrant will be granted. The police will come here and search the place," she explained. "Yugi showed you the secret floor, right? You'll be moving the documents there, but keep it discreet. Don't worry. You'll be replacing them with other documents, and you won't get in trouble. The police are aware of it too."

Patricia blinked, then pointed at herself. "Penny... am I dumb?"

"Fifty percent of the time—maybe eighty," Penny replied without pause. "Fine. Seventy-five. But your character development is coming along nicely."

Patricia frowned, even though she was the one who asked.

"I don't get it," she said. "I don't mind hiding documents for you-especially if they're the kind that could get me fired. But what do you mean the police know about it? You told me not to worry, but now I'm worrying about my mental health."

"Right." Penny sighed and took a moment to think.

During her earlier conversation with Yugi and Wild, Penny had specifically instructed them not to mention anything to her assistants. Yugi's first suggestion had been to involve her assistants. But Penny insisted: the less they knew, the more believable their reactions would be.

But that wasn't the only reason.

Penny didn't fully trust them yet. Not because they seemed suspicious, but because this involved her life. And she couldn't entrust it to someone she had only recently come to know-even if they had passed thorough screenings and background checks.

"This entire scandal is staged by me," she said plainly. "And I need people to go along with it. The police are on my side, to make this look more believable-for security reasons. The search will be mostly for show, but it still needs to look real."

She paused, studying Patricia's neutral expression. "I need you to help Yugi. Can you do that?"

"Oh..." Patricia furrowed her brows, taking a few moments to process. Then she nodded, still a little confused. "Sure. That's not a problem."

"Good." Penny nodded in satisfaction. "I'll let Yugi know."

"But Penny... are you going to tell the others?" Patricia asked, tilting her head. "You haven't left you office since you came in, but just in case you don't know-everyone's phones and every telephone we have are ringing nonstop." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!

"We, in the CEO department especially, are stressing out," she added. "We're throwing out every excuse we can. Honestly, I feel like just recording my voice

and putting it on loop."

"No." Penny shook her head. "Don't tell anyone."

Patricia blinked, staring at her face. "Okay."

A brief silence followed before Penny stood from her seat and walked around the

desk, stopping just a step away from Patricia.

"Patricia, I'll tell you one thing," she said, voice low and firm. "Don't tell anyone about this. If you do, and something bad happens-I'll come after you."

Despite the seriousness in Penny's voice, Patricia's expression didn't change. She just looked at her innocently, as if she didn't understand the threat at all.

"You don't have to threaten me,"

Patricia clicked her tongue. "Like I said—even if this were a real om were greal investigation and I had to hide a

crucial document, I would. Not because you asked, but because I

don't want to look for another job or start over as someone's errand girl." The content is on Novelxo.org! Read the latest chapter there!

With that, Patricia winked and walked off with a smug smirk. Penny watched her go, following her figure with her gaze.

"Since when did she become so reliable?" Penny wondered aloud once Patricia stepped out. After a second, she shrugged and walked back to her seat. "Well, I guess I should thank Nina for designing that reception. Patricia seems to really like it like it was made just for her."
