Chapter 19
~~~ Oh, it hurts the most 'cause I don't know the cause. Maybe I shouldn't have cried when you left and told me not to wait. Oh, it kills the most to say
that I still care. Now I'm left trying to rewind the times you held and kissed me back. I wonder if you're thinking 'Is she alright all alone?' I wonder if you
tried to call but couldn't find your phone. Have I ever crossed your thoughts because your name's all over mine...~~~
A loud gasp escaped from me when he slammed his hand on the roof of his car. And so my tears fell at the same time. Although he didn't exactly
mention who was 'her' that he's referring, there's no other girl I know in his life... it's Cherry. So they broke up... I didn't know how they split, but one
thing is for sure, they're no longer in a relationship.
But why am I not happy after knowing that they broke up? Is it because I could see the pain in his eyes? Or is it because he loved her which I know
he will never feel for me?
"I - I'm s-sorry..." I tried to say between my sobs, lifting my hand over my chest as I felt the pain coming from within.
"Sorry? Do you think you can turn everything back just because you said sorry?" He asked, his eyes flaring with anger.
I didn't answer him or should I say I don't know how to answer his question. Can I turn back the time? Can I undo what I've done?
"Get out of my face, Samantha, before I forget you're the mother of my child!"
"But Luke---"
"I said get out of my face!"
I just took a step back but I didn't move after that. I remained standing in my spot, crying as I watched him repeatedly banged his hands in his car.
'Luke...' I called him when he hopped inside the car, but my voice just came out a whisper.
I had no choice but to cry and watch him leave until he finally disappeared from my sight.
I cried hard that morning and chose to stay in my room the whole day. I was glad that it happened on a Sunday morning so I didn't have to go to
class. Jack kept calling me but I told her that I wanted to rest all day and she understood.
After that confrontation, I never saw Luke again. He's gone for another couple of days until it became week and a couple of weeks. I tried not to feel
worried but I couldn't help myself. Until one afternoon, while I was watching the news channel in the living room, the anchor reported that a red
Maserati sports car with the plate number that had been registered in his name was involved in a terrible accident.
Panic and nervousness crept all over my body that I didn't notice the glass I was holding accidentally dropped on the floor, creating a loud creaking
"Mam Samantha?"
"What happened?"
They asked in unison but since I was starting to feel the pain on my left foot, I ignored them and looked down slowly only to be horrified with what I
saw.
Blood.
I tried to think why the hell there was blood on the floor and on the white carpet, but I didn't get the chance to know where it came from as I had
already lost consciousness.
What I didn't know was that the glass I accidentally dropped a while ago broke into pieces and the large piece hit my left foot. And the blood came
from the large cut that surely will leave a scar.
I don't know long I have been sleeping or how long I have lost my consciousness, I just woke up with a lot of people around me. My parents, parents-
in-law, Dale and Jack.
"W-What happened? Why are you guys all here?" I tried to get up but my mom came to my side in an instant.
"You should take rest a little more, Sam."
I didn't listen to her as I get up and sit straight to ask them again. "What are you here? What is going on?"
"Actually, we're here to ask you the same question, sweetie. What is going on between you and your husband? Where is he and why isn't he here---"
my mother-in-law asked but she was interrupted by her husband.
"Honey, please ask her one at a time. Don't pressure your daughter-in-law, she's pregnant."
"Uhm... " how would I tell them the truth? But I screamed before I could think of an answer as I remembered what I just saw in the news. "Oh, my
God! Where is Luke? I - I saw his car on the news and they said the driver had an accident. We should go to him---"
"Sam!"
"Samantha!"
They all ran to my side to keep me getting up from the couch.
"He's not involved in that accident." I turned to my brother as he spoke behind me. "It was Cherry's brother who drove the car drunk when it hit by a
dump truck this morning."
I sighed of relief then followed my tears that seemed like in a racing competition.
"H-How did you know it wasn't him who met the accident? Where is he? What is he doing right now?"
"I got a message from him this afternoon after we saw the news and he said he wasn't in the car when the accident happened."
content before returning it to her.
"Thank you, Rory." She nodded and smile before she disappeared in front of us.
"How long has your husband not been sleeping in this house, Samantha?"
I gulped, blinked repeatedly with my dad's question.
"Uhmm..."
"And why are you not sharing a bed? Who's the idea of sleeping in a different room? You're a couple, and a husband and wife should share a room, a
bed, and everything!"
"Mom?"
"Speak up, Samantha!" Dad held a serious expression.
"D - Dad, it was my---" I was about to lie and say it was my idea, but my father-in-law cut me off.
"It's alright, Sam, you don't have to answer it."
"Huh...?"
"Based on your reaction, we already know who's foolish idea of not sharing the same room. It was my son, right?"
"No! Actually, it was my idea because---"
"You don't have to lie for his sake. Don't worry, we're going to talk to him about this!"
I thought the conversation would end there, but I was wrong. They asked again the question they had already asked a while ago. How long is my
husband not staying at home? And even I wanted to lie and tell them that he had informed me about his whereabouts--- I think my dad was wiser
than me as he called all the maids and two of the security guards to answer his question... and boom!
I just closed my eyes and uttered a silent prayer that this wouldn't reach my husband's knowledge. I'm sure his nose will flare and I can now imagine
90% of his anger towards me. I don't want him to misinterpret what happened and think that I intentionally told our parents about the things that
should only be dwelling between the two of us.
I waited for him to come home that night, but again, he didn't show up. And the next morning seemed to be back into normal as if nothing had
happened yesterday. I went to school and participated in all the class activities to get him off my mind for a while.
