No More Waiting, She Chooses Love

Chapter 849

Chapter 849
She nodded at me, her eyes warm and reassuring. "Don't worry, the baby is doing wonderfully. I'll check back in a little later."
Fanny left my room and made her way to the director's office. As she stepped inside, she was greeted by the sight of the director
and someone else seated on the couch.
Her breath hitched for a moment she hadn't expected to see Yates there.
But she quickly regained her composure, offering a polite, "Director, Yates."
Hearing his name from her lips sent a sharp twinge through Yates's chest. Yet, he couldn't bring himself to say her name aloud.
"Dr. Willis, come on over," the director beckoned warmly.
Fanny settled into a seat, while the director's gaze flicked between them. "Dr. Willis, you already know Yates, so no further
introductions necessary. What I want to highlight is Yates's new research breakthrough: fetal heart correction during pregnancy.
Yates has chosen our hospital for the pilot program, and Dr. Willis, you'll be collaborating with him."
Fanny was already acquainted with this research. Yates had mentioned it to her before, though he hadn't initially planned to

launch it in this country, let alone collaborate with her. It was hard for her to believe there wasn't a personal motive behind his
change of plans.
Nonetheless, this breakthrough could help countless families with unborn babies needing heart corrections. Despite their
personal history, working together was feasible.
"Sure, I'll fully support Yates with this," Fanny replied, nodding slightly in his direction.
The director clapped his hands in approval. "Dr. Willis, I'll leave Yates in your capable hands."
With that, he excused himself, leaving Yates and Fanny alone. Yates broke the silence first, "Fanny, I'm back."
Fanny said nothing, keeping her emotions in check. Yates continued, "I've been messaging you, but you never replied."
"Yates, we agreed to part ways. The past is behind us. While you're here, I'll work w you professionally, but
let's keep personal matters out of it," Fanny stated, her tone business-like.

Yates had anticipated this. He even worried she might refuse to work with him directly. The fact that she didn't spoke volumes
about her professionalism and grace.
Though he longed for her forgiveness, he knew patience was key. After all, he was back, and there was plenty of time to make
amends and heal her heart. "Alright," Yates agreed.

"Is there anything else, Yates? If not, I'd like to get going," Fanny said, her voice calm and detached, though inside she felt a
storm brewing.
Yates had been her first love, filling her entire youth. She couldn't simply forget him-doing so would mean she never truly cared.
"I'll walk with you and give you a rundown of the research," he suggested, finding
a valid reason to stay close.
As they walked, Yates explained
more about the research and shared
feedback from recent trials abroad.
"Fanny, this project is thoroughly vetted. There's nothing to worry about."
"Of course, if it's Yates's work, it must be top-notch," Fanny replied, a hint of irony in her voice.
Yates grinned awkwardly. "Are you teasing me, Fanny?"
"Do I seem like the type?" she countered, meeting his gaze.
Though months had passed, he hadn't changed much, making her feel as if time had never separated them.
Yates's eyes fell on a scar on Fanny's neck, and concern flared. "Fanny, what happened to your neck?"
His hand instinctively reached out, but before he could touch her, a deep, cool voice called out from nearby, "Seven."
