Mr. Kane Got Blacklisted

Chapter 2444

Darcie wasn’t concerned. She said, “It was just luck. That girl is nothing to worry about. But you, stay home more often and focus
on everything Mallory taught you. Don’t disappoint me again.”
Jaylene agreed, but her mind was still on Aaron.
“How’s the new driver?” Darcie asked casually. “Is he working out?”
Jaylene frowned, thinking of the chatty middle-aged man. “He’s okay. He talks too much, always asking questions, which is
annoying, but he drives well and does what he’s told, like a dog, very obedient.”
Darcie paused, pursed her lips, then said, “Jaylene, do you remember what I told you at your coming-of-age ceremony?”
Jaylene was silent for a moment before responding, “I remember.”
Darcie calmly organized her papers and said, “Repeat it.”
Jaylene clenched her hands and quietly replied, “When you’re in a low position, treat yourself like a human; when you’re in a
high position, treat others like humans.”
Darcie looked up at her. “Have you done that?”
Jaylene bit her lip and, after a moment, said, “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t say ‘sorry’ again. Those are the words I hate the most! You apologize, but nothing changes! Jaylene, I’m not young
anymore. I can’t be with you forever. You need to grow up!”
Jaylene hung her head, not daring to argue.
Darcie looked at her daughter, torn between feeling protective and frustrated. She loved her only child but was disappointed that
Jaylene hadn’t inherited any of her strengths. Instead, Jaylene was more like her brainless father, not even as practical. If Darcie
had had a child with Wenham, she wouldn’t be in such a vulnerable position now.

Darcie asked, “Did you know Stella is pregnant?”
Jaylene’s head snapped up. “Pregnant? That’s impossible! Dahlia said she can’t have children. How could she be pregnant?”
Darcie replied, “Dahlia also said she’d pay you back when she had money. Did she? Can you believe anything she says?”

Jaylene was confused and muttered, “No way. Keegan doesn’t even remember her. How could he... Mom, are you sure?”
“Stella is clearly pregnant, isn’t it obvious? Everyone in the company is talking about it. Haven’t you noticed?” Darcie said sternly.
“A pregnancy is a big deal. Your brother and father know about it but didn’t tell us. Have you thought about why?”
Jaylene’s mind went blank. “Why?”
“Either Keegan never lost his memory and pretended to work with Stella to find out who caused his accident, or he did lose his
memory but Stella is using the pregnancy to force him into marriage.”
Darcie leaned more toward the first option. She knew Stella well enough to believe that if Keegan’s memory loss was permanent,
Stella would never keep the baby. The child was her way to hold on to Keegan, not something to weigh her down.
And after Wendy’s daughter’s wedding, where Dahlia tried to make Stella fall, Keegan was so worried that he took her away.
Darcie didn’t believe Keegan didn’t know about the pregnancy.
Everyone was aware but kept it from Darcie and Jaylene. Darcie couldn’t stop thinking that they might suspect something about
Jessica’s death.
Even though Darcie was sure no one could connect her to that incident, she hadn’t slept peacefully since Stella was found.
Jaylene’s face turned pale as she shook her head. “No, Keegan isn’t pretending. Stella must be the one causing trouble.”
Darcie frowned. “How can you be so sure Keegan really lost his memory?”
“If Keegan didn’t lose his memory, how could he let go of...” Jaylene paused, then bit her lip and said firmly, “He definitely lost his
memory!”
Darcie noticed something off and asked sharply, “What did you do to him?”

“Nothing!” Jaylene avoided her mother’s gaze. “I hired the best brain doctor to help him remember, but it didn’t work. Even if he
could fool me, he couldn’t fool the doctor.”
Darcie stared at her for a moment. “Are you hiding something from me?”
Jaylene knew she couldn’t lie to Darcie. She clenched her hands, digging her nails into her palms to stay calm. “Mom, I’m sure
Keegan doesn’t remember. That’s why I haven’t given up. If he didn’t lose his memory and still cared about Stella, I wouldn’t

bother trying to get close to him. You taught me to respect myself. I wouldn’t embarrass myself.”
Jaylene spoke with conviction, her eyes firm, making Darcie question whether she was overthinking.
Jaylene wouldn’t dare fake compliance because of how Keegan had previously defied her, which was the most shocking thing
Darcie had done.
Darcie sighed. “That’s not what I meant. You’re just like your father, too emotional. Don’t think I’m being harsh for no reason. If I
don’t ask you clearly, you won’t know where you went wrong.”
Jaylene clung to Darcie’s arm, speaking softly. “I know you’re looking out for me, Mom. Even when you scold me, it’s because
you care. I’ll be good and won’t let you down.”
Darcie patted her hand. “I’m glad you understand. Stella’s pregnancy means the Kane family won’t back down. Whether Keegan
remembers or not, you can’t compete with her when she has his child. Let go of Keegan and cut your losses. With Stella
pregnant, she’ll let her guard down. Take this chance to rise up. We’ll see who’s looking up to whom in the future.”
Jaylene lowered her eyes and said quietly, “What if something happens to the baby?”
Darcie froze, gripping Jaylene’s shoulders. “What are you planning? Do you want to harm her? This isn’t the old days! There are
cameras everywhere. Do you want to get caught?”
Jaylene was startled and held Darcie’s hand, frowning. “Mom, why are you so nervous? I’m just saying, who knows what could
happen before she gives birth?”
Darcie realized she’d overreacted. She clenched her hands, trying to calm her racing heart. After a while, she said, “I’m just
worried you’ll do something foolish, Jaylene. There are plenty of men out there. Keegan isn’t special. You want someone good-
looking and kind? As long as you have money and status, you’ll have plenty of those around. You don’t need to please them;
they’ll cater to you. It’s foolish to sacrifice your future for one man!”
