Chapter 967
Chapter 967
Knowing she was waiting for him, knowing she had forgiven him, and knowing... if he could just wake up, their family of four-no,
make that five-could be whole again.
There was something about the baby she hadn't told Everett yet. She had planned to wait until he woke up to share this bit of joy
with him. But now, it seemed she'd have to spill the beans a bit earlier.
Selena eased herself onto the bed, took Everett's hand, and placed it gently on her growing belly. "Everett, the baby's over six
months along now. At my last check-up, everything looked great. The little one's been a dream, not giving me any trouble at all."
"It's such a sweet baby. Can you feel it?" she asked softly. As if on cue, the baby gave a little kick, eager to say hello to its dad.
Selena's face lit up with joy. "Everett, look, the baby's saying hi to you. Already a fan, it seems."
"Sure, I had a short fling with someone else, but it never went anywhere. I realized my heart wasn't in it. He respected that, and
we parted on good terms."
"This baby was a surprise for sure, but when it came down to it, I was more thrilled than anything else because... it's our little
one."
Being crazy in love isn't always seen as a good thing. But if both are equally smitten, well, that's a rare kind of magic. In this life,
finding someone you love who loves you back is the universe's greatest gift.
"You promised me, Everett, that you wouldn't miss out on this one. You've got to keep that promise."
"So... wake up already. The kids and I, we're all here waiting for you."
Selena leaned down, planting a tender kiss on Everett's lips. In that moment, his eyelashes fluttered, and under Selena's
amazed gaze, he slowly, painstakingly opened his eyes.
Her reflection filled his pupils, and in his eyes, an entire world unfolded. Tears
slipped down Selena's cheeks. "Everett, you're awake..."
He struggled to lift his hand, his fingers clumsily wiping away her tears, his voice dry and raspy, "After all... a promise is a
promise."
"Mrs. Bennett, it's been a while."
Selena laughed through her tears, "Mr. Everett, it has indeed."
After two weeks in the hospital, Everett was on the mend, though he still bore a fierce scar on his back from the burns. Sitting on
the bed, helping him clean up, Selena
ver
couldn't help but feel a pangin her
heart when she saw it.
Even though Everett had pulled through, she still had nightmares about that inferno. If she had lost him, she couldn't imagine
how she would've gone on.
Sensing her unease, Everett turned and gave her a smile. "I've always thought a few scars add character especially when they're
badges of saving my wife and child. But if they bother you, I can look into getting rid of it."
ofit."
Selena looked at him, tears in her eyes, and suddenly asked, "Did it hurt a lot back then?"
