Chapter 303
In our family, the First Branch, it’s just you and Murray representing the next generation. Honestly, we're outnumbered by the Second and Third
Branches. If we were to split the inheritance strictly per capita, as the will suggests, we’d be at a significant disadvantage. But if either you or your
brother had a kid, we could at least claw back some of our losses.”
“Looks like it’s a no-go for both of us, but Millie’s got a bun in the oven, and we can’t let that opportunity slip away.”
Hertha had an epiphany, “So, that's what this is all about.”
“Got it now? As long as Millie’s baby arrives safe and sound, we stand to gain at least this much—”
Beverley gestured with a hand.
Hertha guessed, “Fifty million?”
“Think bigger.”
“No way, not half a billion?”
Beverley chuckled.
Hertha gasped in shock.
So much for a VIP room; the soundproofing was terrible. She touched her still-flat belly, contemplating the enormity of half a billion...
...
Millie's condition wasn't really improving by staying in the hospital; rest at home was what she needed.
So, three days later, Beverley arranged for her discharge.
This scare had made both Beverley and Millie extremely cautious. For the first couple of days at home, Millie was very careful, watching her diet and
keeping her emotions in check, fearing any stress might harm the baby.
As time went on and it seemed like everything was okay, Beverley went out of his way to pamper Millie, treating her like royalty, short of plucking stars
from the sky. If she wanted something, he made sure she got it.
Throughout this time, Murray never once came back to the mansion.
Even when Beverley personally called him, it was futile; either he didn’t pick up, or he flat-out refused to come, quickly ending the conversation in
evident annoyance.
He was clearly done with Millie, not even wanting to spare her a glance.
Millie gave up on expecting anything from him. With a baby on the way and a potential half a billion in the picture, winning Murray’s affection seemed
less crucial.
But some people just can't sit still. As soon as she felt slightly better, Millie was up to something.
“Beverley, I’m heading out for a prenatal checkup. When I return, could I trouble you for some of your homemade chicken soup?”
Millie stood by the door, all smiles.
Beverley, sitting on the couch, waved a hand dismissively, “Off you go, I’ll have Lara whip up some soup. It’ll be ready by the time you get back.”
Millie chuckled, “I think you misunderstood. I was asking for — your homemade — chicken soup.”
She emphasized “your homemade” for effect.
Beverley frowned, glanced at her slightly swollen belly, took a deep breath, and conceded, “Alright, I’ll make it.”
“Thanks, dear.”
When Beverley got back from her checkup, she found the chicken soup ready to serve. She filled a bowl for Millie and placed it on the table, saying,
"Soup’s ready. Come have some."
Then, she served herself a bowl.
Honestly, it smelled even better than Lara’s.
“Beverley, are you expecting too?” Millie approached the dining table and dropped this bombshell casually.
Beverley nearly choked on her soup.
