Love After Divorce by BELLA

Chapter 35

Chapter 35:.
“How long do you plan to lie?”
Suddenly, a man’s deep, deep voice fell on her ears. Stella was furious. She pushed his hand away and stood up quickly. She
muttered to herself, “Who wants to lie to you? This man...” Her face was not red; her heart was not beating fast.
Rene Kingston stood up quietly, taking off his suit. He looked at Stella’s flushed face and said with a smile, “You’re blushing!”.
That was easy to say... Anyone who didn’t know the truth might think they were an old couple.
Stella lowered her eyes and didn’t dare look into that man’s eyes. His gaze was hot! Even though it had been so long since they
had been divorced, every word he said about the past made her feel as if it had happened just yesterday. It reminded her of
everything about the past.
Stella stood there with her head down. After hearing his words, there were too many complicated emotions in her heart.
The two of them were already divorced. Next month he would marry Sophia.... But still, he said he didn’t have a girlfriend in front
of his grandmother. What exactly did this man want, or what was he trying to do? Stella didn’t understand him.
Stella still couldn’t bring herself to look him in the eye and didn’t want to stay there a second longer. “You... you go buy dinner. I’ll
go be with my grandmother.” After she finished speaking, she quickly ran away from him.
Her heart was pounding as she walked away, terrified that if she stayed a moment longer, it would pound out of her chest.
Especially when she talked about the past.
Didn’t she realize how easy it was to stir up old memories? It had been so long... Why was he bringing it up again? Stella shook
her head, trying her hardest to shake off those scenes that had happened. If she had known what was going to happen, she
would never have let him get close, let alone hold her hand. At least it wouldn’t be so embarrassing.
Now she didn’t know how to face her grandmother. It was too embarrassing.
Back in the living room, Stella took a deep breath, calmed her heart and went inside. As she entered, she saw her grandmother
pacing back and forth across the room expectantly, as if waiting for them to return.
“Grandma,” Stella called out softly as she approached.

Grace heard his voice and turned to her, surprised to see that they had returned in less than ten minutes. “Why are you back so
soon?”. But after seeing that only Stella had returned and that RK was not following, she asked, “Why did you come back alone,
where is Rene?”

Stella walked over to the couch, poured herself some water and replied, “He said he didn’t want me to come back with him. He
went to buy dinner alone.” He lied.
In any case, she didn’t think she was doing anything wrong. After all, she didn’t care what the man thought of her. What mattered
now was to change her grandmother’s high opinion of him.
But poor Stella... She didn’t realize that her grandmother trusted Rene more than she trusted her. Hearing this, Grace thought it
had been Stella who had bullied Rene.

She looked at her and said disapprovingly, “Stella, how could you bully him like that? Why did he ask you to come back? I’m sure
you must have bullied him yourself and come back.” Grace was absolutely certain that it was Stella who bullied RK.
Stella looked at her grandmother in disbelief. How could she, a woman in her twenties, intimidate a tall, strong man in his
thirties? Was it possible?
Stella looked at her grandmother and said, “Grandma, why do you think I would do something like that? Do you really think your
granddaughter is the kind of person who bullies people?”
“I’m not sure. But I know Rene is an honest man, more so than you. I’m afraid you’ve frightened him.” Grace said in a very
reasonable manner. Stella almost choked on the water.
Honest? Rene? The President of the RK Group? Honest? Besides, he said Stella had scared him. But in fact, it was he who
scared her just now!
Stella was sure...there was no doubt that her grandmother was getting old. Stella wanted to cry but had no tears.
She looked at her and said, “Grandma, whatever I say, you’re not going to believe me, are you? Next month, when Mr. Kingston
gets married, you’ll see what a hypocrite he is.” The man had just taken advantage of her and lied to her grandmother, and yet
he was the victim? He was such a horrible, cunning man.

Grace looked at her with an ignorant face and shook her head, sighing, “Stella, very experienced, and I can tell at a glance that
Rene is a good, honest, filial man. Look at you; you only know how to complain about him.
Why don’t you believe him when he says he has no girlfriend? You’re too difficult.”
Grace sighed again, “Besides, look, Rene just confessed to you and wants you to be his girlfriend. Why don’t you accept? You’re
going to regret it if it gets out of hand, where else can you find a man as good as him?”.
Stella turned her head away from her grandmother. The more her grandmother talked about how honest and filial he was, the
more Stella felt he was nothing but shameless. He had lied to her grandmother.
He had a fiancée, but he wouldn’t admit it. And yet his grandmother insisted that he was an honest, filial son. Why couldn’t she
see that he was just acting all along?
He was not a good man at all.
Grace looked at her granddaughter’s sullen face and spoke softly, “If you don’t like Rene, I won’t force you to go out with him.
But at the very least, why don’t you try? If you see that you’re compatible, you can talk about marriage later.
Besides, Stella, you’re already 28. If you don’t get married soon, I won’t have peace of mind when I leave.”
Stella’s heart skipped a beat at his words. “Grandma, don’t talk like that. You’re going to live long.”
In this world, he did not have many close relatives. Other than Adrian, his grandmother was his only real family. Of course, David
was also family. He was her father, but he always lived in the Richard family.
If it weren’t for Tristan, he had long since gravitated towards Isabella and Sophia. What’s more, he had already started another
family, so it was pretty obvious that he would never really choose her.
So, in the end, only she and Adrian were family.
Grace gently patted the back of Stella’s hand. “Stella, I’m getting weaker every year. I’m old. If it weren’t for Rene, you might not
even have been able to see me when you came back. René is a kind man. You can trust him.

He knows how to take care of others and understands what needs to be done. He’s not like those men who have so many
women around. That makes things worrying.”

Grace continued to praise him, and Stella’s heart shrank. If her grandmother found out that RK was the man she had been
married to, she would be furious. It could affect her health.
Just because he didn’t want to affect his grandmother’s health, he wouldn’t tell her anything. If it weren’t for that, he would have
long ago revealed RK’s true face and prevented his grandmother from being fooled by him.
Grace leaned in and spoke more softly, “Stella, when Rene comes back, don’t be cold to him. He’s a good man, and what’s
more, he’s also my savior. You can’t treat him like that, can you?”
“Okay...” Stella reluctantly nodded, unable to argue any further. Just then, they saw RK entering the room, carrying bags of food.
Seeing him like this, Stella realized that, for the president of such a large company, it might be the first time he had ever bought
takeout for someone.
If it weren’t for her desire to maintain her good image in her grandmother’s eyes, she never would have done it. Seeing him, the
president of the company, buying takeout and bringing it here, Stella felt a different kind of joy in her heart.
“René, thank you very much. You came all this way to see me, and I even invited you to dinner. It’s all thanks to you, Stella....
lazy.”
Grace looked at Stella and then at RK. RK plattered the food on the table, smiling slightly. “It’s okay, Grandma.”
Seeing him like this, Grace thought in her heart: Rene was such a gentle and kind man. The more she looked at him, the more
she liked him. He exuded the aura of a mature, trustworthy person. Grace just wanted her granddaughter to marry him as soon
as possible.
“Whichever way you look at it, Rene is the perfect grandson-in-law,” Grace thought.
“Let’s go eat. Grandma’s hungry,” Grace said, purposely sitting down across from them so she could observe their interactions.
Stella saw him sitting next to her and the scene in the hallway came to her mind. Her face reddened, she picked up the bowl and
spoon and lowered her head.
As Grace sat across from them to watch as RK helped unpack the food, she noticed a noticeable bruise on the back of his right
hand. Much of the skin was swollen and discolored, as if she had just hurt herself.
“Rene, what happened to your hand?” asked Grace anxiously. “How did you hurt it? Weren’t you well a while ago?”

His grandmother’s words also drew Stella’s attention to him. Her eyes also fell on the bruise on the back of his right hand. How
did he get hurt? Was it then, when they fell down the stairs?
He also fell... Why wasn’t he hurt?
“It’s nothing. I hurt myself without meaning to. Everything will be fine,” RK replied lightly, as if it wasn’t his hand that was hurt.
Stella’s eyes lingered on her wound, and then she suddenly remembered that when she had fallen, she had felt his hand
gripping her waist tightly. If it was his hand...
She began to think: why had she done it? Why hadn’t she let go? If she had, she wouldn’t have hurt herself and she would have
been the one to fall. This way, she wouldn’t have let him get into trouble.
Moreover, he had also mentioned the past and had pretended not to have a girlfriend in front of his grandmother in order to go
out with her.
What was going through his head? What did he want to do? Suddenly, his mind was filled with overwhelming suspicions.
