Chapter 13
Chapter 13:.
Stella felt a shiver run down her spine as Emily’s words struck a chord. It was as if she had just seen a ghost. Almost
immediately, she felt herself perk up.
Stella looked in the direction of the stage. She saw that the man was looking in her direction. His deep blue eyes were
unreadable from that distance, so it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
There were almost a hundred people in the room. Stella didn’t know if it was because she hadn’t applauded or something else,
but she didn’t understand why the president of the company was looking in her direction.
Still, it was very scary to look into his eyes. Stella quickly averted her gaze, lowered her head and began to clap her hands
silently.
“Ahhh! Look! Mr. Kingston is looking in my direction!”
The girl sitting next to Stella smiled excitedly and clapped louder.
When RK finished her brief speech, she came down from the stage and took a seat in front. He was seated about a dozen tables
away from her, with several people between them. Only then did Stella let out a sigh of relief.
“All right, listen up everyone,” Elena announced, addressing their table. “Today it is our project team that is going to propose a
toast to Mr. RK for his speech.
Everyone think about what you want to say to Mr. RK, but make it something more original than ‘You’re very handsome’ or ‘I like
you’.”
Elena said this as she looked at the girl sitting next to Stella with a meaningful smile. “Take advantage of this opportunity,” she
continued.
“Not everyone gets a chance to talk to Mr. RK. How he remembers you in the future may depend on how you behave today.....
Good luck.” Elena finished speaking and left.
Afterwards, all the women seated around the table quickly pulled out their makeup bags and began applying it. Some were
putting on blusher, some powder, some even mascara. They were behaving as if they had attended a beauty pageant.
Ever since she had returned, she had always heard about the man. After the RK Group acquired her company, she heard about
him day and night. Sometimes it seemed like she heard more about him than she breathed in a day.
Stella put down the spoon. She didn’t even feel like eating. Now, she just wanted to go out and get some fresh air to clear her
mind.

She would go back inside after her toast; this way, she could escape this situation.
It was not that seeing him aroused old emotions, but that if she met him or stayed near him, her feelings would flare up.
But she knew that he would not recognize her in the extreme, so what was the point of him coming into her sight from time to
time and disturbing her peaceful life? Stella thought that, at that moment, she should get as far away from him as possible.
With that thought, Stella quietly made her way to the lobby entrance.
Suddenly, she was called by a person who had just walked in. “Stella Richard.”
The voice was a bit familiar and full of disgust. It fell on her ears, causing Stella to stop and look at the speaker. She saw Sophia
standing not far from her, in a red dress and high heels, holding a purse in her hand.
“I heard from Dad that you were back from France. I didn’t think it was true,” Sophia scoffed, her voice full of disdain. She didn’t
even bother to crack a fake smile.
Stella looked at Sophia with a cold expression. When she lived with the Richard family, her sister always made her angry.
Her mother hadn’t lived with her since she was young, and David Richard married Sophia’s mother and brought her home.
Because of her stepmother and stepsister, Stella lived in her own home as if she were living in someone else’s home.
All those years, Stella had learned what it meant to live under someone else’s roof. She had seen how her father loved other
women and how he had spoiled her stepsister since she was a little girl.
Stella had wanted to leave the Richard home as soon as she was sensible.
But leaving was not easy. What she had not expected was that her chance to leave would come through marriage to Rene
Kingston, instead of Sophia.
At the time, a fire had disfigured Sophia’s face, and her father, fearing the consequences of breaking the marriage contract, had
“Stella Richard, you’ve been abroad for many years, why are you back, and why are you working at RK Group? You must have
ulterior motives, right?”
“RK is about to marry me, so please stay away from him. Do you think that just because you have been RK’s mistress for three
years, you can still consider yourself RK’s wife?”.
Stella didn’t answer and just looked at her with a smirk, calm in appearance.
After a while, he spoke, “Sophia Richard, it’s been years since I last saw you, but I didn’t expect you to look exactly the same as
you did before.”
This was how they addressed each other as stepsisters. It was very easy and simple to understand, and effectively
demonstrated how much both sisters loved each other.
“Huh? Same thing?”
Then Sophia suddenly burst out laughing and said, “But you’re the one who hasn’t changed. Didn’t you still love RK? That’s why
you work at his company. Otherwise, why didn’t you accept when dad asked you to work in his company? You don’t even want to
work in your family’s company but you want to work in your ex-husband’s company.”
“Stella Richard, I have never met a more shameless woman than you. You have no shame.”
“Shut up!” Stella burst out, her voice cold as ice.
“Don’t project your twisted thoughts onto me. Where I work has nothing to do with you. And yes, if you want me to leave, then go
and ask your future husband why he wouldn’t let me go back to France.”
Without waiting for an answer, Stella turned and walked away, without giving Sophia so much as a glance. What bad luck to be
so...
“Did Sophia really think she wanted to stay in X City and didn’t want to leave? Only she knew how much she wanted Rene to
send her back to France so she would never have to see him again.
If it were not for the fact that she was afraid of finding a new job in France and everything would start from the beginning, where
she would not even be able to afford normal expenses for Adrian and herself, she would have given her letter of resignation long
ago!
She was forced to stay here for her life. It was not easy to find work in France.
